Alan was a wonderful host, and this property is absolutely gorgeous. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely return!
With that in mind, here are a few things that might be helpful for a future renter to know. None of them are problems, just differences from the norm that could take some folks by surprise.
- The room does not have standard height ceilings. I'm 6"3, and had to duck slightly to go under the central support beam and in/out of the bathroom and shower. Not a problem for me, but it might trigger claustrophobia or bruised foreheads in others!
- The kitchen is well-stocked, but does not include a stove. The listing does not mention one, but my wife and I have become so used to VRBO rentals having them that the lack was surprising and caused a small hiccup in the first night's dinner plans.
- The water in the apartment comes from a well, and has a very strong metallic smell from iron content. The kitchen tap water is filtered and wonderful to drink, but if you're not used well water then taking a shower might surprise you. I had to reassure my daughter that there was nothing wrong with the water. :)
- There is no TV. Normally that would be a massive bonus in our books, but we were invested in the Olympics and sad to miss the competitions on our first night there. (I know, I know. What a first-world problem to have!)
Again, we absolutely loved our stay here and would definitely recommend the property to someone wanting to get away from it all in Maine!
