Luxury Family Period Home By The Cotswold Way

  • Escape to The White Hart, a newly renovated pub in Leonard Stanley, Cotswolds. This spacious retreat sleeps 19, perfect for family gatherings. Enjoy a hot tub, bar, TV room, and dog-friendly environment. Feast together in a stylish kitchen with large dining areas. Near Stroud and Painswick, it`s an ideal escape from city life.

    Step inside and be enchanted by the spacious interior over three floors, with wooden beams, and exposed Cotswold stone walls.

    The open areas provide ample space for social gatherings. In the comfortable generous lounge you`ll find velvet chesterfields and leather barrel-backed fireside chairs beside the wood burning stove. Snuggle in the snug on our enormous soft sofa in front of the large television ~ relax with a film, play games on the PlayStation or enjoy a traditional board game!

    For grown ups, enjoy the intimate bar to the rear of the house where you can mix cocktails ~ or let us arrange local beers or ciders to be delivered from the local breweries at Stroud, Uley or Gloucester. Enjoy tasting some fine English wines from nearby Woodchester Vineyard ~ we have included a couple of bottles in our welcome hamper, and we have paired them with locally produced artisan cheeses from Godsell’s Farm for you to enjoy.

    The fully-equipped kitchen invites aspiring chefs to whip up culinary delights using locally sourced ingredients. But no need to work ~ for those occasions where you all want to relax, we have private chefs who can ensure everyone has a meal to remember. The two oak tables seat 20, but can easily be configured for smaller groups.

    With nine bedrooms, including seven en-suites, smart televisions in all bedrooms and cozy nooks, everyone is guaranteed a restful night’s sleep in crisp cotton bedlinen amidst the tranquility of the countryside.

    Our downstairs bedroom has one step down into the room, and a generous en-suite with shower chair if required. We have stair gates, high chairs and travel cots for little ones, but please bring your own cot mattresses and bedding for the cots. Enjoy our selection of toys, books and puzzles during your stay.

    For those that need to stay connected, The White Hart benefits from good WiFi throughout the house with Ethernet boosters on each floor and super fast fibre at 300mbps.

    Outside, find a private patio garden perfect for al fresco dining, or simply unwind with a glass of wine as the sun sets by the hot tub and pretty summerhouse lit up with fairy lights. To respect our neighbours, we kindly ask that the hot tub is vacated and closed at 22.00.

    In the village, pick up fresh milk, eggs, cheese and other delicious local produce from Godsell’s Farm vending machine next to the church. We will let you know about events at The Saxon Barn which is just behind the church ~ here they host various pop-up global food trucks and monthly farmers markets. The Saxon Barn is also a wonderful space for weddings.

    Venture further afield to discover the enchanting beauty of the rolling Cotswolds, the quaint villages and the market towns of nearby Nailsworth, Painswick & Stroud. This area is rich in ancient history ~ walk among the ancient Neolithic burial barrows or follow the scenic walking trails. Head straight out of the door, onto Marsh Lane, and you will soon find yourself on The Cotswolds Way, a renowned long-distance walking trail spanning 102 miles! Many of the surrounding fields have cows grazing so be sure to keep dogs on leads where signposted.

    Whether you’re seeking a peaceful retreat with loved ones or a memorable venue for a special celebration, The White Hart offers a captivating blend of heritage and hospitality, promising an unforgettable escape in the heart of the English countryside ~ it is easily accessible from the M5 and 10 minutes from Stonehouse train station with direct trains into Paddington or two stops to Cheltenham. Boasting period features and sensitively preserved architectural details, our home seamlessly blends old-world charm with modern comforts, offering a truly unforgettable retreat for you and up to 20 guests.

    Please know, while I`m readily available to assist with any inquiries or support you might need during your stay, I also respect your privacy and desire for a relaxing holiday. Therefore, I`ll make sure to keep my communications minimal and only reach out when necessary.

    Leonard Stanley dates back to Saxon times with a rich history based around weaving and agriculture. Today, the Norman church is the centrepiece of the village. The White Hart was once one of several Inns built in the early 1700s, overlooking the church, the Priory, the working farms and surrounding fields. A wooded escarpment leads onto The Cotswold Way, and this same view remains unspoilt. The White Hart has a Blue Plaque from English Heritage celebrating renowned artist Sir Stanley Spencer, who lived and worked here from 1939 to 1941 with his wife Hilda and mistress Daphne.

    We`re afraid that we will not accept groups with the majority younger than 25 years old.

    Hen Parties may be accepted by prior arrangement. Please reach out to us first before booking.

    We love dogs and so welcome up to four well-behaved dogs, but we do ask that dogs be kept off the beds.
    We kindly ask guests not to plug electric vehicles into the houses electrical system to charge. Doing so can overload the supply and puts the property and your guests at risk. The nearest EV charging station is located at Bridge Service Station in Stonehouse, just a short drive away (2 Gloucester Rd, Stonehouse GL10 2PB). Guests found charging vehicles via the house supply will incur an additional fee to cover the associated risks and costs.


    We kindly ask that guests avoid moving any furniture during their stay. If you do need to rearrange something please alert Rebecca and be sure to return it to its original spot before you leave. We`re a small team, and putting furniture back in place adds extra strain on our hardworking cleaners—thanks so much for your understanding!
