A Perfect Lake House

We were looking for a tranquil, comfortable place "up north" for three adults and a dog. We wanted a sandy beach, pine forests, dark night skies with many stars, friendly peoplle, beautiful sunrises. At Amber and John's Lake House we found all that and more! Their home is spacious and welcomiing; its design takes advantage of its unique spot on the lake shore -- catching the breezes, providing beautiful views from the windows and the two screened-in porches. We found everything a guest could need to make their stay pleasant: comfortable beds, substantial sofas and chairs), a generous supply of towels, a large refrigerator (with useful codiments) the spacious kitchen island where we could organize our meals, helpful labeled drawers and cabinets in the kitchen. We could see much thought and care had gone into this house and the arrangements for guests of different ages and interests. The big dining room table seats eight to ten people easily - although we were only three. There were games and books for inside days. There were lots of beach toys and inside toys that made us wish were were kids again -- as did the room with the four bunk beds. Amber and John were helpful and easy to work with; they answered all my pesky questions promptly and patiently. They helped us find a week that accomodated our schedule and theirs, and when we mentioned our dog, even provided special towels and a dog crate, We are so happy we chose John and Amber's lake house for our vacation!

A great place for family and friends

This is a lovely home on Lake Michigan with a sandy beach and beautiful views. We especially enjoyed the two screened in porches which face the lake. It’s not just a rental, but is a second home to a young family of 6, and so it has many features which make it very homey. It has an impressively well stocked kitchen, including spices and condiments. It’s a great place for kids, including a room with 2 bunk beds, a picnic table for games, and a big screen TV. However, if you have trouble with stairs, this place is not for you. It’s quite remote with the nearest grocery store 30 minutes away in either Escanaba or Menomine, so bring food with you. There’s a nearby restaurant called Halfway which serves excellent food. We went there 3 times.

Relaxation Oasis!

My husband and I chose this location based on the beach and it did NOT disappoint. We spent most of our stay outside and we only left the property twice, because the scenery was so beautiful. We star gazed almost every night and had fires right in the beach. And, when it did rain, I curled up with a book and hubby found Mike Tyson’s Punch Out for the Nintendo. He was thrilled! lol. Amber was great to communicate with and this property had everything we needed. We hope to book another stay here in the future!

We Can't Wait to go Back

My only hesitation is writing this review is that everyone will want to stay here and it'll get all booked up! This house and property is absolutely amazing!! The beach honestly still has me gushing over it to friends and family. The owners are just as amazing, the communication is great and you can tell they truly want you to enjoy your stay at their property. My family absolutely loved our stay here and are already planning next summers vacation!

Beautiful house in quiet area with big sandy beach

We (and our dogs) enjoyed our stay. The house was big with plenty of room for everyone.The washing machine and dryer were a big plus, as we stayed for more than a week.The area was quiet. The bottom of the lake was mostly sandy. It would be a good idea to bring water shoes though, because there are sharp plant stalks poking out of the sand.

Another Great Stay

After staying in this house last year, we decided to come back and stay for another week this summer. We were not disappointed. Seeing our son soak up an entire straight week of having the beach right outside his back door made for priceless memories that we will not soon forget.

Beautiful Summer Getaway

Quiet/peaceful getaway from the heat and hassle of everyday life. The house was clean and well furnished providing a great place for lake activities or day tripping to some awesome Great Lakes places. Owners were easy to communicate with and helpful. We would highly recommend this place.

The house was so nice, the morning sunrise and evening sunset was breathtaking. It was quite, secluded, and the beach to ourselves. Owners were great left us with everything we needed to enjoy this amazing place.

A Picture Perfect Week on the Beach

We had a picture perfect week on the beach to enjoy spending time together as an extended family. John and Amber's beach house was perfect for our needs and their hospitality made us feel welcome before we even got to the property. Our week started off a little bit rocky as a storm had gone through the area the night before. Upon our arrival, we learned that the power was out as a result of the storm. We chatted with John and Amber on the phone and they were able to help us find what we needed and offered assistance with anything else that would help us out. Fortunately the power came on just before sunset. The rest of the week was almost perfect from then on. The pictures of the backyard in the listing are a little out of date, but for us that was a positive. Much of the grass in the backyard has been replaced with sand, making this the widest beach you'll probably find in anywhere in the area. Our two year old son absolutely loved his big 'sandbox'! And the house has TONS of outdoor toys to use! He was so sad to leave it all behind at the end of the week. Our only downsides to the yard were biting flies on the hot days and mosquitos at dusk. But I think it's nearly impossible to find any place in northern MN, WI, or MI where this isn't the case in the summer. Just bring your bug spray! The section of Lake Michigan that the property is on is also perfect for enjoying the water. I was able to walk a couple hundred feet out from the shoreline and still only be about knee to waste deep in the water. Much of the area in front of house is a pristine sandbar that is only a foot or two under the surface of the water. This was great for going in barefoot and a big stress reliever to let our two year old son play in the water without having to worry about him going in too deep. We also brought two paddleboards along and enjoyed going out and exploring the shoreline with them daily. The only downside to the beach was algae along the first few feet of the shoreline. Fortunately we could always find clear spots into the water depending on the direction of the wind. As for the inside, we were perfectly comfortable. The day we arrived was on the warmer side, so learning there was no a/c was a bit of a surprise, but the house cooled off very quickly once the sun started to set. There are lots of windows to open up! Plenty of amenities kept us comfortable when we weren't outside on the beach. Thank you, John and Amber. We truly enjoyed your special place.

Remote Christmas Getaway with the Family

We chose the property for its remoteness and its shoreline on Lake Michigan. The house and property offered great spaces to create memories together as well as places for solitude. The kitchen was nicely supplied as we brought food to cook for the entire week. The owners were easy to communicate with and even checked in after it snowed to see if we needed the driveway plowed out. We really enjoyed our Christmas away!

The waters view was breathtaking!

The view and the privacy made this getaway very memorable. I took daily walks in the lake back and forth for up to 45 minutes a day the sand was mostly hard, the water clean and a wonderful work out!

Beach was gross

The house was great. Clean and well-equipped. The beach, sadly, was a huge disappointment. It was one long stretch of brown-green muck that extended 4-5 feet out into the water. Apparently it's the result of a big vegetation kill-off. It smells terrible and is littered with dead fish. The situation is not new, according to the neighbors, and sometimes it's worse than others. We paid a premium for a beach house and couldn't even use the beach. (Sometimes we couldn't even be out on the deck the stink was so bad.) We definitely would not have rented the place had we known what awaited us.

Spacious Retreat

The master suite was great for my parents and my family had room to spread out on the lower level. There are a lot of steps that could be an issue for some people. The beach changed daily. It was muck the first day and nice sand by our last day. Lots of room for frisbee and other activities! The driveway is long, but leads to a very secluded house.

Exceeded expectations!

We had such a delightful stay at this property. John answered our many questions before arrival. We had never been to Michigan before and this home had everything we were looking for—a private spacious home with room for everyone to be together or to spread out, a large beach area for play and shell searching, beautiful walks in both directions, close enough for day trips but also plenty right out the back door for a day spent on site. I spent hours on the chair overlooking the lake on the upper deck connected to the master bedroom. This is the first place we’ve stayed where we all left saying we’d love to come back.
