Beautiful modern and clean cabin
Barred Owl Lodge is a beautiful, extremely clean and modern cabin. Lisa and her family have thought of almost everything as linens, towels, all kitchen and bathroom items were available as needed for their guests. The only con: It's not as private as we liked personally, as the other cabins are just next door, with a very small separation of trees. Overall 5 stars as everything inside is perfect, clean, and working well. Also Lisa's communication and information packet was fantastic and made the trip easy. Thank you again!

We're so glad you enjoyed your stay, Jonathan. For future guests, regarding the privacy issue: the cabin is located on its own acreage with trees dividing the cabin from another on the adjacent acreage. Guests at both cabins would have to really strain to see each other due to the distance apart and the trees. (See aerial photo) The cabin is very private, but not remote, so if a guest is looking to be in a remote location this would not a good fit.

Cozy cabin
Great location, easy to find. Host gives clear instructions on how to find it. The cabin is a quiet getaway but still close to amenities, we forgot some things and grocery store was 6min away. Enjoyed the hot tub at the end of the day after hiking in the Shenandoah.

Mountain Getaway
My wife and I took a short mid week getaway, a beautiful 2 hour drive from Northern Virginia. This was a fantastic property, very clean, everything is nicely laid out and the cabin is cozy, quaint and comfortable. The amenities are very nice and had everything we needed. The hot tub was a hit, nice outdoor fire pit and a gas grill for good measure. There are some nice eateries in nearby Luray and nice sight seeing opportunities close by as well. The owners are great with communication and very hospitable. Highly recommend for a couples getaway!

Beautiful Cabin in a Beautiful Setting
The Barred Owl Lodge was wonderful! The cabin was absolutely beautiful in such a beautiful setting! Because we stayed in March (with leaves off the trees) we also had great views of the mountains! The cabin was roomy, comfortable and very clean with awesome little touches like blankets to cozy up on the couch with! The fireplace with shelf of books and games was a fun family touch also! The wrap around porch with chairs and hot tub was lovely and there was even a firepit and grill area! Jim and Lisa are amazing hosts as they were great with lots of information about the area and cabin and easily available for any questions you may have! I hope we find our way back to Virginia in the future to stay with them again!

Beautiful, cozy cabin managed by extremely attentive owners
The cabin is beautiful, comfortable, and appears new. The owner provided extremely thorough pre-arrival instructions, including a list of local activities, hiking trails, and recommended restaurants. The cabin is equipped with everything one could imagine - clean linens, ample cleaning supplies, laundry detergent, and all the appliances one might need while away from home. We enjoyed using the hot tub and the outdoor grill and firepit; and we were particularly grateful for the pre-arrival information, which included a complete list of hiking trails. All check-in and check-out procedures were well-articulated. The owner even arranged to install a Roku device after the previous occupant reported that the DirectTV wasn't working properly. Having stayed in many other rentals, I had never received this level of comprehensive pre-arrival information or attention. I would absolutely stay in one of their rentals again.

Clean cabin
The Barred Owl was a nice place to stay during our visit to Shenandoah National Park. It is close to Luray Caverns and one of the entrances to the NP. We loved the privacy of the property. It was a good size for our family of 4. The fully furnished kitchen and outdoor grill were nice to have since dining options were limited due to Covid. There are grocery stores nearby too. The hot tub was nice after a day of hiking. We really enjoyed our stay.

Perfect fall getaway
We had a wonderful time at the barred owl lodge!! We definitely want to come back! The owners were so nice and their attention to detail was great. Everything was very clean and there were clear instructions throughout entire cabin!!

Booked a last minute stay at a different cabin that turned out to be unavailable but the owners graciously upgraded us to their larger cabin nearby. Cabin was fantastic. Very clean and comfortable. Enjoyed sunrises overlooking the valley and fog. Would definitely go back next time we’re in the area.

Wedding Weekend
Rented cabin for parents and grandparents who enjoyed their weekend stay and found the cabin to be clean, comfortable, and in a great location. Would recommend to anyone looking for a quiet weekend away or as a home-base for someone looking to explore this beautiful part of the country.

Beautiful cabin near the mountains!
Jim and Lisa provided a wonderful cabin with a picturesque view and location. We could not have had a better trip! The cabin looks as if it was built yesterday. The attention to detail and additions to the property, such as the fire pit and hot tub make this cabin a winner! We would definitely recommend this cabin to anyone and would love to come back again!

Memorable - Worth Repeating!
The Barred Owl was the perfect home base for hiking and enjoying Skyline Drive. Comfy and spacious, adorably rustic (and seasonally decorated!) Great to have two queen beds and two baths - perfect for two couples, and great to have the hot tub after a day of vigorous hiking.

Our family of four chose this cabin as our home base while exploring Shenandoah National Park. This cabin exceeded our expectations! It is a fairly new cabin, very comfortable, spacious, clean, has modern appliances, and is tastefully decorated with attention to the rustic, country theme. The owners have provided everything you could possibly need while staying in their “home away from home.” Should you desire to cook, the kitchen is extremely well stocked. Our damage deposit was returned the very day we departed. We highly recommend the Barred Owl Lodge should you visit this beautiful area. You will not be disappointed.

Wonderful owners and beautiful cabin!
This was a fabulous cabin! My boyfriend and I wanted a quick getaway from the city and we couldn’t have been happier with the hosts and cabin! It had everything we needed - from games to cooking pans! The view was lovely and the hot tub so relaxing! The owners are so friendly, helpful and went above and beyond to help our stay be relaxing and easy. We will be back!

Luxury Cabin in peaceful setting.
Beautiful luxury cabin in a quiet setting. Quality finishes, linens, and nice decor. Hot tub and fire place were awesome. Comfortable beds and furniture. Owners take extra steps in providing spices, cleaning supplies, tons of dishes, pots, and pans so guest don’t have to make many trips to the store. Visited nearby towns for a fun day trip and spent many hours just hanging out at the house. Fast refund. Truly a pleasure and would stay again.

Wonderful property with all the necessary amenities and more!
Came to this cabin to enjoy the sights and smells of early Spring. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't that great with all the snow. But Lisa and Jim really went out of their way to make our stay extremely comfortable. It was an amazing stay in their beautiful cabin. Really nice touches and thoughtful gestures made this stay even more memorable.

Outstanding cabin in every way!
The cabin was outstanding in all aspects!. Just as the previous reviews state, it is obvious that the owners take great pride in providing the guests with the best stay possible. Lisa told me that we didn't have to bring anything, and she was right!. Everything was exceptional from the comfortable beds and nice towels, to the kitchen staples and cleaning supplies. We've stayed in several other cabins over the past and have never found better comforts and supplies. The cabin binder was very well put together and provided us with a lot of good information regarding the cabin and the surrounding area. Thanks again to Jim and Lisa for getting it right!

Magnificent Home
Hi, we just returned from an amazing trip to the Shenandoah Valley. And we could not have selected a better home, than the Barred Owl Lodge. It is beyond what we expected ! A beautiful log home, on beautiful property, on top of a hill, with a lot of privacy, in the middle of nature (with other homes close by). Coming off the mountain, the views are spectacular. The home is so new, and fresh, filled with amenities, and Lisa's special touches (loved all the owl decor !). We loved the fire pit, relaxing on the porch, and taking in all the sounds of nature.. One day we decided to stay back and enjoy the home and property. If you're thinking of renting this home, you will not be disappointed. This was the nicest home that I've ever stayed in on vacation.. Clean & quiet
This cabin is new and clean. All amenities were generously provided. Easy access to attractions in Luray; a little bit of a drive to Shenandoah National Park. My family and I stayed the weekend for the Shenandoah Half Marathon and had a great time.

For those of you who are looking to come to Shenandoah National Park, this property is closest to the Thornton Gap Entrance (about 15 miles...a beautiful drive to and through the Park).

We loved the Barred Owl Lodge. The place was spotless and the kitchen had all the amenities that we wanted. It was such a relaxing place after a full day of hiking. Unfortunately the hot tub is right outside the bedroom, so when it kicked on, it was loud and woke us up. Thanks for the detailed instructions on the hot tub, otherwise I would've thought there was something wrong with it (I didn't know it would periodically kick on). I was a bit surprised that we were responsible for bringing the trash to the landfill and for stripping the beds when we left. At least we had the option of texting the housekeeper to pick up the trash. Considering the price we paid per night, one would think those things would be taken care of. Overall we did have a great stay in a very pretty home, beautifully decorated and incredibly clean.

We ask guests to take a moment to strip the beds so that we know which linens are dirty; we regret that you found that to be inconvenient. And the trash... there is no trash pick-up in this rural area which is why we offer the option for our guests to take it with them or text the housekeeper to pick it up. She's always happy to do so, so I'm glad you took advantage of that option. We will look forward to seeing you again!

Perfectly Located and Appointed Getaway
This was our second stay at the Barred Owl Lodge, and both were wonderful. The Lodge is perfectly located within a short drive of all of the fantastic offerings of the Shenandoah Valley. Nearby Luray has good dining options and lots of activities for kids and adults. In this last week, we fed animals like a tiger and lemur and pet a porcupine at the Luray Zoo, saw the town's great fireworks, tromped around in a creek, watched a great blue heron hunt and catch fish only 5 feet from where we stood, fed ducks at the Greenway, went on nature walks in the mountains where we saw deer, bears and a Goliath beetle, saw a local college league baseball game, went to museums, visited wineries, shopped for art, went peach picking at an orchard, and enjoyed feasting on items purchased at three different farmers' markets. That's not to mention our great hotdog roasts and s'mores made on the fire at the Lodge. The home itself is immaculately kept and very well appointed, with everything you could need in terms of towels, bedding, and kitchen supplies, not to mention excellent WiFi service. I can't recommend this property enough. Our entire family loves it, and I'm sure we will be back many more times in the future.

Great experience
Cabin is conveniently located just outside Stanley, Va close to Luray. We had a great weekend at the cabin exploring several hikes in the Shenandoah National Park as well as visiting the Luray Caverns. Cabin is outfitted with everything you need to have a fabulous family weekend.

Great cabin!
The cabin was amazing. Beautiful inside with everything you need. Secluded enough for a romantic getaway but close enough to town to find things to do. We spent our nights relaxing away in the hot tub enjoying the stars and peaceful sounds of the woods. We will be back for sure.

Cabin Getaway
We loved our getaway! We live in NOVA, so the quietness and peacefulness was awesome. The cabin had all the extras we needed. There were spices, napkins, all dishes we could need. We saved a lot of money by using the grill and stove instead of eating out. We did eat at Uncle Buck's one night and it was really good! The hot tub was a great amenity. We used it every night. Loved sitting in front of the fireplace playing games and Watching movies after exploring all day. Will definitely return!

Lovely cabin! Very very clean!! The location is perfect, you are away from everything and have tons of privacy but town is just a short drive if you need anything. The house is comfortable and inviting from the minute you walk in and the owner has gone above and beyond to make sure you have everything you need for a relaxing carefree stay. From sitting outside by the stone firepit under the stars at night to unwinding in the large hot tub after a day of hiking this place is perfect!!!!
