5TH Street Beach Hideaway

Best aspect of this cottage- location: right next to the 5th street beach path; quiet, no traffic and a 1/4 mile walk to East Beach. Back porch great for evening sitting. Charmingly decorated. Sun porch best room in the house.Worst aspect- this property is OLD. Fans, downstairs AC--Old. Dim lighting. Upstairs BR not for adults with stairs issues. LR furniture - old and worn. Door hardware on Jack/Jill Bathrooms from early 20th century- needs to be replaced. Same for upstairs. Downstairs BRs do not have return vents for AC thus get pretty stuffy at night with doors closed. Bathrooms are adequate but small. No drip coffee maker - Keurig only.Plenty of parking. If you stay here recommend golf cart rental to take people and beach equip to beach.

Needs to be Removed from VRBO

The house in reality was lacking in every way and the pictures on VRBO did not show the degree of lack of updating, vinyl floors from 70s, poor maintenance, and poor quality in general of this house. A lot of rust, dead bugs, rough wood open closet cubicles, chipped and hanging cabinets, rusted non-working fans, grass knee high, difficult beach access, porch in the picture very dirty, and so on. Management company moved us to another location and we had a great vacation but not in this house. Not VRBO worthy.

Spring Tiem for Family and Friends

We had a great time! The house was perfect for our group - our twins with their spouses and 1 or 2 babies, our college student brought 2 friends and there was still room for us.The kitchen worked well for meals and the table was big enough to seat everyone, even when other friends showed up!The weather was too cool for swimming, but we enjoyed the historical sites and long walks on the beach.Thank you do sharing your lovely and cozy old home with us!

Perfect, clean and plenty of room!!

We really enjoyed staying in this old house!! It was perfect for our group and had all the charm of an older home. We were very disappointed in not getting to bring our pet, but overall satisfied with the experience.

Chilling at the Cottage

What an awesome place to meet with longtime friends. The cottage was so cute and nicely decorated with plenty of room for everyone. It is walking distance to the Homefront Museum and The Prince and King resort. Lots of restaurants were also nearby. We highly recommend it!

Great beach house!

We loved staying at You are my Sunshine. This would be a 5-star house if it only were better maintained. On the plus side, the house is really cozy for a large group, with 4 bedrooms on the first floor, and a bedroom plus (for us) a huge playroom for the kids on the second floor. Plus a large living area, dining room, and kitchen, a nice air-conditioned porch with great views of the yard, and a covered back porch with rocking chairs. Plus an upstairs sundeck. Great setup for a week or two at the beach, with beach access out the back door. Maintenance issues bring the house down a star. An outdoor railing broke off with normal use, two doorknobs/latches broke, the back deck needed a couple of repairs, an electric socket was dangerously uncovered and another pulled out when unplugging a lamp. Lighthouse Vacations was very responsive and fixed everything when reported. The house could use better bug maintenance too, which we didn't report. Also there were only 4 spoons (we bought plastic spoons to compensate), and though there were many knives in the kitchen, they were very dull (I cut myself when a knife bounce off a lemon I was trying to slice). Beyond the maintenance issues, the house is very comfortable and well equipped. And the AC is great as we had 90+ weather every day for two weeks. We had a great stay with a family of 10 plus some visitors along the way. Also the fridge does a great job making ice which was much appreciated. A great house with more TLC!

family time

We loved the cozy house that had great bedroom arrangement with bathrooms close by. The front and back porches were very enjoyable and well furnished. The internet was a little slow but understandable with so many using it. The only down side of the house was the kitchen having water bugs and some of the pans and dishes were put away dirty. We had a very comfortable stay and would stay there again for our family reunion.

Great Location, the house is old but very cozy and cute. A walk to the beach and a nice yard.

The house was at a great location and very clean. The only thing that we would have preferred is to have working door handles and locks on the bathroom doors. They are Jack &Jill bathrooms downstairs and the doors are old and looks like original to the house which is great we didn’t mind that. But neither of the bathrooms had working door knobs. The kept falling off and we couldn’t lock them.

Nice beach stay

Property was very nice in spite of some minor issues (door knobs were broken off, ants in bathroom and kitchen, and wasps and wasps nests on eave by door upstairs). Room for everyone, short walk to beach, and good layout for house.

Comfortable house for 10 people

This house was perfect for our family. The grandkids had their own space upstairs and there were enough bedrooms for the rest of us. Plenty of space and great arrangement. Enough bathrooms and plenty of towels. A very comfortable house! The kitchen was well equipped for 10 people - large pans and lots of cooking tools. The table was large enough to accommodate all 10 of us. The location was great. Short walk to beach. We really appreciated the outside shower so we didn't track sand into the house. The beach cart was very handy. The arrival and departure instructions were excellent. We'd love to return next year!

Nice stay!

The home was spacious, yet cozy. Everyone had plenty of room to spread out. The home was well stocked with cooking utensils, dishes, blankets, towels, etc. This was our first trip to SSI and I did not realize that golf carts are rideable almost everywhere. My son in law rented one and it came in very handy and made the trip even more fun. The walk to the beach was not bad as long as it was not the hottest part of the day. However , the golf cart made it a breeze!

Mostly Great

Everything was great till the upstairs AC went out. All windows are painted shut so no window units could be installed. Property manager tried to get things taken care of but we just had to not use the upstairs of the house for 2 nights. Everything else was great, just not the best response time for the AC going out.

Family Christmas Vacation

We had a nice family Christmas vacation in St Simons. The home was good for our group with inside and outside space to spread out. The weather was cold and the property manager was kind to bring more blankets at our request. The house was probably a quarter mile walk down a path to the beach. We would stay here again.
