weekend stay
Having stayed at OGH on several occasions it was noticeable that the bedrooms are getting tired and in need of an upgrade, especially in view of the prices. We had brown water appearing from the hot water which was bad enough to stain a white flannel brown and the pull cords on the curtains no longer functioned. There was a large black chip in the bath enamel and the mastic around the bath needs repairing. However the staff, service and the lounge, dining room and bar areas were excellent.

Our stay at OGH was great,we felt totally pampered the whole time. All the staff were very attentive and polite but especially Kris Raggoo- the manager who was exceptional,nothing was too much trouble. Breakfasts were amazing,light lunches too- unfortunately however dinner was pricey and disappointing. That said- this hotel is excellent,we would definitely recommend it.

Your duty manger Govind is a jewel in the crown Advice for restaurant The eggs are awful. Try Burford Browns free range The curries are outstanding The chef disappointed us in the main restaurant He killed the scallops by trying too hard Mussels should not be added to such a sweet fish dish. Far too much salt indicates a chef who smokes and has lost tastebuds The seabass was overcooked and dry The vegetables were perfect and tasted as though they had been harvested that morning. The wedding over the weekend undermined our experience We lost access to the garden entirely and on the following morning, the breakfast room was ruined by loud conversations akin to a coach load of garrilous blackpool tourists who are socially badly behaved

From the moment my Wife and I arrived outside the hotel, we were made to feel warmly welcomed by the hotel team. The additional touches that I had requested were all in the room waiting for us that made our stay extra special. The sea view King room was absolutely stunning with a view over St Peter Port. That linked to the spa facilities were fantastic. My Wife and I will definitely be travelling back to the hotel in the not too distant future.

Fantastisch - 10 Punkte!
Aufgrund eines Streiks der französischen Flugsicherung erfolgte die Anreise einen Tag später als geplant; nach einem Gespräch mit dem General Manager hat das Hotel entgegenkommenderweise auf die Berechnung des Übernachtungspreises verzichtet, obwohl ihm dieser laut Vertragsbedingung zugestanden hätte; auch eine uralte Reklamation wurde mit dem General Manager besprochen und wird sich hoffentlich in ähnlich kulanter Weise lösen lassen; alles spricht für die Servicequalität und Orientierung an den Gästebedürfnissen in diesem wirklich hochkarätigen Haus, das auf der Insel Guernsey Leitbetrieb ist und Massstäbe setzt! Vom unkomplizierten Check in bis zum Check out hat einfach alles gepasst, man fühlt sich einfach wohl und geniesst die Zeit! Zimmer überschaubar gross, sehr sauber und luxuriös ausgestattet, es gab ein Upgrade wie für Expedia-VIP-Kunden vereinbart, zusätzlich einen Restaurantgutschein über 50 Pfund Sterling, das alles macht den Aufenthalt noch angenehmer; Restaurants und Bars sehr gepflegt, grosse Speisenauswahl vom Frühstück über Lunch bis zum Dinner, alles von bester Qualität; Aussenanlagen mit Garten, Terrassen und Pool mit Blick auf den Hafen und die gegenüberliegende Insel Herm ebenfalls gepflegt und einladend; Fazit: das Haus ist für Kurz- aber auch längere Aufenthalte sehr zu empfehlen, es hebt sich in vielfacher Weise positiv von den örtlichen Mitbewerbern ab, nicht billig, aber jeden Euro/jedes Pfund Sterling wert; wir kommen sicher wieder - danke für alle

Good location for east access to St Peter Port. All staff friendly and helpful without exception. Can’t do enough for the residents. Hotel condition good but fading here and there. Very good breakfasts.

La grande tradition britannique
Séjour très agréable dans un hôtel de très bon niveau dans la grande tradition britannique. Le petit-déjeuner et l'Afternoon tea sont exceptionnels. Le service est particulièrement prévenant et gentil.

Long & sunny weekend away
We came back to the hotel after a few years as we knew it had good facilities and, as the weather was good, wanted to take advantage of the lovely pool in between trips out. The hotel is starting to look tired now, worn carpets and scuffed paintwork which is unexpected in a Red Carnation Hotel. Our room was lovely and comfortable though and kept very clean. The pool area is lovely but small, particularly when families arrive, wanting to sit together but find it difficult to find the space to do so. There was only 2 of us but the area quickly feels cramped if more than a few rooms use it. Also, there was no pool service and on one day, after 4 hours no staff had been down to clear towels from sunbeams that were no longer being used or put out fresh towels. Reception and concierge staff were fabulous throughout. Bar staff less so but nothing a little further training couldn't sort out. Breakfast had a huge choice and was well cooked and delicious. Overall a good stay but very expensive for the state of the hotel in its tired state.

Trying hard to return to pre covid standards
Location good. Pool a real asset. Breakfast menu excellent. Evening menu good. Service rather haphazard - each person trying hard but not always coordinated and the gaps in service were unfortunate. As hospitality returns to normal I hope OHG will become a place of excellence again.

OGH is definitely 5 star
The OGH is definitely 5 star service, all the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We had a mobility challenged party member and they couldn't do enough to help us. The rooms are charming and well appointed but a bit cosy because of age of building. Excellent dining room, lounges, garden, pool and spa/gym. You can walk 5 minutes down to front of St Peter for all the excellent restaurants. Bit of a climb back up.

Wonderful experience with sublime service
We absolutely loved our weekend in St Peter Port, and the OGH was perfect! From the moment we walked through the door, we were made to feel extremely welcome. The building is beautiful and the staff are amazing. So many whose names I can’t recall but who were wonderful and made our stay so special (although Alessandro was particularly fantastic, and Roberto & Renato). Room was small but beautifully decorated with wonderful fittings and details - the most comfortable bed with gorgeous linen; it was a real treat to stay here. The restaurant was lovely & we had two fabulous evening meals with god wine and excellent service; breakfasts wonderful, sat outside on the terrace with a view out over the sea. Perfect location, just a 5 minute stroll down to the old town centre and the port area. First class luxury. We’ll be back next year for another break!

Not 5 Stars
There was no doubt the impact of COVID had taken it’s toll on the OGH, the staff were tired and adjustments had to be made for the staff shortages they were experiencing. The staff on the ground couldn’t be faulted for their effort, but the experience was far from 5 star, there was a lack of management, in fact I didn’t see or speak to the Manager all week, staff went about their business without adequate direction and didn’t appear to have the level of training you would expect at a 5 star hotel to truly deliver the service you expect and see at other top hotels. Dirty plates were left throughout the hotel for hours, be it the pool area or room service in the corridors. The rooms were adequate, but lacked clean lines and warmth. We asked to be moved from our first room as it was so dowdy. We had booked a balcony room, which was a complete disappointment, it isn’t advertised as such, but the vast majority of the balconies are enclosed, with a part sliding window, they have decking on the floor and were so unwelcoming we spent no time at all using it. The website shows the proper balconies, of which there can be no more than 4, so the chances of getting one is not high – a bit more honesty OGH! Location was great, with easy access to the port; town and many other restaurants. If COVID presented a real opportunity for hotels such as the OGH to showcase what they can do, Red Carnation have missed that opportunity by some distance.

Great stay.
Staff members were all very warm and welcoming. From check in with Ula on reception who was incredibly professional, but also warm and friendly. She dealt with all of our requests efficiently. We ate in the brasserie and the food was superb, the head waiter Marciano was a star - hard working and again very professional. They even bought out a surprise dessert for my birthday! We used the gym and spa facilities which were very well equipped.

Fabulous service
The reception and concierge staff were so helpful. We used the free valet parking some times twice in the day and nothing was too much trouble. Lots of smiley faces and good service. Although our room was compact! everything in it was of good quality, we slept soundly and heard very little noise. Breakfast had a great choice of buffet and numerous cooked options. Very well situated to walk down the hill into town. The restaurant were very helpful with food allergies especially when we ate the first night with little notice due to travel delays.

Five stars except for food
The Hotel is five star in every way except food. The menus look exciting, but the food when it comes isn't special, some dishes are small, and the prices are high. Luckily there are many restaurants close-by to choose from

We stayed in the OGH from 2nd September for 9 nights via the air bubble from the Isle of Man. What an amazing week we had and the hotel just complemented it. A lovely traditional, very comfortable hotel. Coming back at the end of a busy day out was a total pleasure. We had a lovely room with a balcony & were lucky to have the sun shining through our window every morning. The breakfast and breakfast service was totally excellent, the staff could not do enough for you. All of the staff were really lovely but Alexandro & Ula (who was a joy) really stood out. Should we come back to Guernsey we would without a doubt stay there again. Thank you all.

Staff were excellent, views on a good day were excellent too. The location is close in distance to the high street but via a steep hill and then to the harbour by flights of step (or longer via less steep high street). the building has character but is somewhat rambling. Queen room OK but not large, lighting chaotic controls and heating/cooling unpredictable. Written information about the hotel, facilities, restaurants, menus etc all poor to non existent.

Spa closed for entire stay - hugely disapppinting
Hugely disappointed that the entire spa area was closed for routine maintenance during my stay. I specifically chose this hotel to be able to relax and use the spa. The rest of the hotel, service, staff and breakfast was excellent, but it is really unreasonable to advertise such an expensive room and not mention the maintenance.
