We had a wonderful stay at The Plantation on St. George Island! We came to town for a family wedding and this was by far the perfect - out of town - location to stay during the down times.The home was spotless, beautifully maintained, and thoughtfully stocked with everything we needed for a comfortable and relaxing getaway. It’s clear the owners take great pride in keeping the property in top shape.The location truly immerses you in the charm of island marsh life — peaceful water views, beautiful birds, and abundant local wildlife make it easy to unwind and appreciate nature at its best.As noted in the listing, all (but one) the beds are queens — a bit snug for taller guests like us, but certainly not a dealbreaker! Just something to keep in mind if you’re above average height.The island itself is wonderfully quiet and laid-back — perfect for anyone seeking rest and relaxation. It’s not a place for nightlife or constant activity, but rather for slowing down, soaking up the scenery, and simply enjoying the peace.We’d happily return and recommend it to anyone looking for a tranquil coastal escape!

The Big Picture: covered all the based

Our second time at this property and we loved it as much as the first time. Screened, Covered pool was perfect. Plenty of room for everyone. Only thing we missed is that there isn’t a big dining table where we could all sit down and eat together

Wonderful home!

Our stay at The Big Picture was everything we could have asked for. Plenty of space, easy checkin, immaculately clean and very responsive management. We never went to the beach in the neighborhood, but enjoyed plenty of pool time. The weather was unbelievably hot, but the AC system worked well and staying inside was the perfect place to cool down. Very quiet and off the beaten path. Would absolutely stay here again.

Great stay!

Excellent stay. Well equipped with baby gear - utensils, pack and play, black out shades, high chair and baby gates. Very short walk to the beach and even shorter bike ride. We will definitely be back!

Nice place to relax

We have stayed here 3 times and have enjoyed it. The house is big enough for our party but has several areas where you can enjoy peaceful solitude if you want. It is located on the bay side and provides an excellent view. The beach is not far away and the bike / pedestrian trails are great. Recommend having bicycles to see the entire Plantation.

Family getaway

The house and pool were just perfect for our family to get away together during this pandemic. My husband and I and our two adult children and their families needed some beach time and fun together. The house is very beautiful and comfortable and grandchildren ages 15-8 loved the pool. Great access to beach which was perfect for being able to stay apart. Just was a little disappointed with the cleaning that should have been done during this time. We brought plenty of disinfectant though to be safe

A great experience

This is our second year renting this property. We love everything about the house and pool! The house is beautiful and welcoming. The improvements to the dock made our kayaking easier. The weather was so pleasant. We spent many hours relaxing on the screened-in porches, decks, and around the pool. The kitchen is a well-stocked dream. Our family has been somewhat separated due to the Covid-19 virus. It was very nice being able to see one another for a week.

Amazing house!

We have been vacationing on SGI for 10 years - this by far is the most beautiful house yet. The kitchen is amazing, pool is immaculate, overall layout of the house is great. Jamie was excellent to work with, very responsive and super helpful!

A Happily Situated House

Our stay at The Big Picture was awesome! This house is so well thought out and beautifully decorated for a family vacation. There are conveniences on every floor. Both sets of our parents were with us. They appreciated the ease of using the elevator. The kitchen/pantry area was great. There was plenty of room for all of our food. Our favorite place was the screened-in pool area. We enjoyed the swim-out areas in the pool. The patio furniture was very comfortable. The fans made a pleasant breeze for chilling out or reading. We also enjoyed kayaking in the bay. All in all, I'd borrow a phrase from Jane Austen in describing the house... It is very happily situated!

Our group absolutely LOVED “The Big Picture”

We spent 3 nights and fell in love with this house. The views are incredible from the multiple porches. We had a great time taking the kayaks out once the water rose high enough. Within easy walking distance to the beach. We hope to return soon!

The Big Picture is THE BEST beach house ever!

Staying on the bay-side gave us an advantage in terms of being able to enjoy all that St George Island and the Apalachicola area have to offer! The house offered both personal and community space for all of us to enjoy every minute of our family week at the beach! We were also delighted with all the extras (towels, board games, and hats, for example) provided that may have been forgotten at home. Jamie did a remarkable job helping us navigate a couple of issues during the week. She was swift to respond and resolve! We hope to return to The Big Picture every year!

Spectacular!

This house was amazing in every way. The views were spectacular and the private pool was a huge plus For the kids. You won't be disappointed in this beautiful home or it's amazing location overlooking the gorgeous bay. One thing that is no joke: mosquitoes! Bring candles, incense, bug spray and anything else you can buy. They are the worst at ground level but seem to disappear when you are on the top deck. If the owners could spray it would be helpful too.

Beautiful, comfortable vacation house!

This was a great house for a large family! Adequate numbers of bathrooms, nice laundry room with large washer & dryer. Kitchen beautiful! All of the amenities to make everyone happy! Only 4 stars because difficulty getting kayaks in & out of very small amount of water. Minor problem😊

Beautiful Bay Front Home

We loved our stay in this beautiful home. Everyone enjoyed the gorgeous views of the bay and the short walk to the beach. Over the years, our family has rented other vacation homes on St. George Island but this was our favorite. We are already looking at dates to return next year.

Great family retreat!

This was an excellent property for our family. Spacious enough to relax, either by yourself enjoying the bay view and a cup of coffee or with family watching the sunsets. Everyone enjoyed the beautiful beach and when it got too warm, the screened in pool was a perfect escape from the heat. The house was well equipped with an open floor plan kitchen with ample seating for the entire family. We also had an opportunity to use the smoker cooker several times for grilling out seafood and of course hamburgers and hotdogs for the grandkids. I would recommend this property for a great family get away.

Wonderful stay in a nicely appointed and well-equipped home!

The Big Picture was a wonderful choice for our clan of cousins! The home (practically brand new) has comfortable and tasteful furnishings and decor, excellent appliances, well-equipped kitchen, and fantastic views from almost all decks and porches! The lovely screened in salt-water pool was a great alternative to the beach, and the adjacent screened in seating area made it that much more enjoyable. For the majority of the week, the weather cooperated nicely and we were able to enjoy cool breezes, sunsets, and star-gazing from all areas of the home (without too much bother from bugs)! All-in-all, we had a fantastic time and would love to return again! Finally, can't say enough about Jamie Polous, our agent. She took great care of us and was very helpful and responsive when we needed her (with some rather unusual requests and issues)! The only suggestions we have are listed below: - Since there's no large indoor dining table and most group dining must occur around the sizeable bar, owner should consider investing in a set of comfortable yet sturdy bar stools that are the same size/shape (e.g. sturdy swivel stools with backs but no arms). The backless metal stools aren't very stable (e.g. tend to tip easily), and the directors' chairs aren't very comfortable and really are too big when seating is at capacity. The style of the rattan bar stools at the "bar" near the pool, while not in keeping the décor of the home, would be better suited. - The trundle beds upstairs actually convert to king size beds (not queens), and are probably better suited for couples than kids, but the area affords little privacy since it's an open loft directly above the kitchen and the only indoor living area. Might be worth investing in a means for closing off that area (sliding barn doors?) and adding a portable AC unit. - Could use a small refrigerator and a small trash bin under the bar down by the pool. - Could use more chairs on the decks off of the living area. (We thought about moving chairs that were elsewhere, but never got around to it.) - Could use ceiling fans in all screened porches, including the covered sitting area by the pool.
