What a joy to experience this beautiful enclave of hand-built cabins, steps from the Rio Grande river in South Fork, Colorado. Paula and Fritz went above and beyond to ensure our stay was comfortable. They are so welcoming, and love to share their favorite local spots as well as answering any questions about how they constructed their cabins. We chose to spend a day driving the amazing Silver Thread Scenic Byway after exploring the beginning of the Bachelor Loop in Creede, one day spent reading and relaxing by the river, and two days hiking various nearby trails. The property is perfectly situated for a quiet getaway, while still being minutes from outdoor adventures, lots of wildlife, and several restaurants. The town of Creede is only about an hour’s scenic drive and has a super Visitor’s Center, plenty of restaurants, a theater, and the start of the Bachelor Loop historic mining self-guided tour.
We stayed in the charming Guest Cabin and were lulled to sleep by the sound of the river only 10 feet from our window. The cabin had a beautiful wooden sleigh bed, extremely comfortable with high-quality pillows and Egyptian cotton sheets; two leather armchairs great for relaxing and reading by the little gas stove; a mini fridge and coffee maker with creamers and coffee provided; plenty of closet space; a full bathroom with instant-on hot water, nice fixtures, and a hand-crafted tin mirror. There were lovely details everywhere, from the hand-carved colorful masks, to beautiful decorative textiles, and even small sculptures on the window ledges. There is a communal fire pit with views of the river, and a separate seating area with table and chiminea for the Guest Cabin. We enjoyed starting out one cool, crisp Autumn morning with a dip in the hot tub set on a deck surrounded by tall pines. If weather and schedules permit, there are also inflatable kayaks for guests. Paula and Fritz provide so many extras to ensure a fabulous stay--flip a light switch for twinkle lights on the outside eaves of each cabin, there is plenty of wood for the fire pit or chiminea, a hammock, tables and outside seating, even a rope swing on the property! If you're fortunate you might have the pleasure of playing with their pet dog Kenai and pet cat Lucky.
We look forward to returning to Riverside Meadows Cabins and highly recommend this wonderful vacation property.
