Sorrento itself is a unique Maine village that feels that the real Maine experience - many amenities including pool, trails, tennis courts, and more. The village is walkable from the house. The house is quite nice and comfy. I like that it is open and airy but there are a few details that renters should be aware of before renting this property. 1) The pictures can be misinterpreted to look like the lawn is right on the water. The house is in the trees on a bluff that is 10-15ft off the water. There is no way to launch kayaks or paddleboards directly from the property (which I missed from description). You can launch at the public launch in town (but must drive). There is a beach access just down the street but it is privately owned and I was told by homeowner that I was not allowed to launch my kayak there. They seem to be okay with people walking along the water there thankfully. 2) The house is in the forest / trees - so views are through trees and it was pretty buggy in early June and made use of the nice deck tough. I should note it had been rainy but we had stayed previous week on water in Corea and didn't struggle with mosquitos as much. On the other hand, the walks from the house on the road are beautiful and there are a ton of trails you can use. 3) The downside of the open wood construction and lack of insulation is that sound carries through the house very easily. If you have teenagers who stay up late, you'll hear them talk in the bedrooms and sound of people going in and out of bathroom communicates through the house. If you have light sleepers, it's something to be aware.
These items noted, we really enjoyed the house and our stay. An unadvertised bonus was that there is a REALLY nice big work desk on second floor with views to water for those who have to work remote and fast internet. The décor reflected the artists ownership with some works by family members. The combo of wood stove and open fireplace made for cozy nights and mornings. It's a fantastic stove (recent model Jotul!) and will easily heat the whole house. We had a snafu with check-in where the check-in time had been changed to 2 hours later but, since we rented before that change, our instructions didn't reflect the later time. That's the fault of VRBO, not the owners. That said, house wasn't ready by the new check-in time and left us in awkward spot. Of course, everyone is dealing with staffing shortages so am sympathetic.
