This was a lovely, comfortable home. A cut above the usual Black Butte or Sunriver rental, which often resembles a 1980's dental office. This house was beautifully customized, quite clean and fairly well maintained. It had high ceilings, many windows, nice furnishings and best of all, a back deck abutting a beautiful meadow dotted with aspen and ponderosa pine. It seemed tucked away and private, and yet it was a just a short walk to a nice rec center and pool.
There was one draw-back, which if you are aware of before renting shouldn't be a problem. The description of the house says that it has four bedrooms, and this is accurate up to a point. But future renters should know that TWO of the bedrooms are small, dark children's rooms with bunkbeds. That leaves only two bedrooms suitable for adults. We were a party of 3 couples and 2 children. We assumed that each couple would take a bedroom and the children would sleep in the room with bunkbeds. We did not know that one couple would have to make due with bunkbeds, and if we had known we wouldn't have booked the house, as nice as it is. We had to put the bunkbed mattresses on the floor together and there was scarcely enough space in that small room to do even this. Plus, the mattresses in the children's rooms were second-rate and very uncomfortable for adults. Everything in the children's "wing" from bedding, to bathroom, to mattresses was sort of tired and inferior to the rest of the house (which was, as I said, quite lovely and well-appointed). Odd.
The home does not come with bikes and/or any other recreational equipment unlike many in Black Butte and Sunriver. But that wasn't much of a problem because of the nearby rec center and bike rental place therein ($25 dollars/day/per person).
Nevertheless, we had a great time there and I do recommend this home (for parties of no more than four adults!).
Also, try the Kokane Cafe in Camp Sherman for a wonderful, relaxing adult dinner on the banks of the Metolius.
