As advertised. One thought would be to replace the gasket / seal around the wood stove door in order to better control the air to the stove so it could be choked down to the point it could burn all night. Other than that, great spot!

The Artist’s Cabin
We loved our stay at the Artist’s Cabin. It is not a fancy place by any means but the description and photos on VRBO make that clear. The stand-out feature of this cabin is the setting. Absolutely breathtaking, right on the Million Dollar Highway. We were comfortable there and had everything we needed. We definitely plan to return!

Artist Cabin Serene Adventure
The Artist Cabin welcomed us to the middle of a mountain range just outside of the small town of Silverton, CO. My brother and I absolutely enjoyed the peace and comfort the cabin provided to us. Check in was a breeze and so was check out. We enjoyed all of the amenities of the cabin and would definitely recommend for any group wanting to isolate themselves in the beautiful mountains!

Peaceful, Beautiful Views, Hiking, Wildlife - Perfect!
Our family of 7 absolutely loved staying at this cabin!! There’s no cell service, which was such a gift. It forced us to stop and enjoy nature, the views, and each other more. We painted, played games, read, hiked, took tons of photos, and enjoyed the wildlife. It was perfect! We hope to come back some day.

Perfect in every way
The cabin was well-stocked, clean and quaint. It is in a great location with quick access to Silverton and Ouray and a short drive to Telluride and Durango. Jeepers will love the trails and nature-lovers will be awestruck. Be aware that is is right on the 550 highway-high elevations and not great if you have a fear of heights like us flatlanders. Must book today!

Peaceful stay with amenities
I enjoyed being in the middle of the mountain ranges away from towns. It’s a great way to see the stars without any light from streets or homes creating light pollution. Beautiful location and well placed between Ouray and Silverton if you want to see towns with spectacular views of the mountains. Only thing that was a drawback for me was the inability to know how much power we were using, due to the sign warning us that the battery was not full. In addition the toilet kept running and we continuously had to fuss with it to get it to stop running water.

Amazing Mountain Cabin!
My husband and I stayed here while celebrating our 25th anniversary. The secluded location with breathtaking mountain views was even more than we had imagined! It's close to Silverton and lots of beautiful hikes. We loved it!

I had no idea that it would be so difficult to get to the front door because of all the snow. Elderly people or anyone who has difficulty walking wouldn’t be able to walk from the car to the front door. There’s barely a path to get to the front door

The Location is amazing. Authenticity was great! This property is run by solar panels and the Electricity is stored. The Electric never came on. The proprietor did not provide an option or a solution. The people staying the next day suffered the same fate. The proprietor new this was going to happen to the next guests. I felt like they may have known there was an issue. They certainly knew the next guests were going to experience the issue.

Wilderness stay not to far from town.
This is a wonderful get away cabin. If your looking for a fancy resort cabin this is not the one but if you want to get away from people, computers, TV and get away with just you and your family into the wilderness of Colorado this is the place. With creeks running on two sides of the cabin, waterfalls everywhere you explore and Moose in the open fields near the cabin, it's a wonderful place to stay. If you do stay here you must experience the Red Mountain mining district, near by Silverton, the million dollar highway and Ouray. By the way the food at Bon Ton Italian restaurant in Ouray is very good. Also a fun side trek over to Telluride allows you to see the spectacular Bridal veil falls. If your looking for Jeep badge of honor trails. There are 5 in the area. Also you can tour the old hundred mine in Silverton, the Bachelor Syracuse mine in Ouray and so many other things. Have fun, bring your camera and be prepared to want to return.

The Artist Cabin was in the perfect location for our use. Very close to multiple trailheads so we were able to get riding quickly without much travel and still enjoy a multitude of trails.

Great location between Silverton and Ouray
Rented due to rates and location. Nothing fancy at all, but liked the solitude away from town and tech. Having our coffee in the mornings on the back deck in the crisp mountain air was a special treat. Solar-powered and no electrical appliances provided or allowed (i.e. toaster, microwave, coffeemaker) so be prepared for that.

Beautiful and Remote
My husband and I reunited with longtime friends at this property for a trail race. The cabin is in a unique remote and beautiful setting, but still only a 15 minutes drive from downtown Silverton. It requires a lot of planning (and brining of your own items from home to outfit the cabin for your stay), so wouldn't recommend for those flying into the cabin from far away who may have to pack all of this with them. There is also no cell or wifi service at cabin. We enjoyed the departure from our busy connected lives, but would be difficult for those who need to be connected for work or other purposes! There are coffee shops in downtown Silverton who offer wifi. Great spot!

Mountain Serenity
Wonderful! Nice to be able to officially disconnect from the world. Tonya and I came to enjoy our time at 10k’ and above wandering as many trails as our Jeep could muster. Engineer, Cinnamon, Old Lime Rd (strangely made me the most uneasy..lol), Poughkeepsie, Hurricane, Cork Screw….and more. Thank you David for your wonderful accommodations! No disappointments!

Great Place To Stay
The Artist cabin is right off the Million Dollar Highway and 8 mi from Silverton. This place is off the grid and we loved it. Very cool property with all the cooking supplies you need for home cooked meals. The House runs on Solar so there are some power restrictions but we never had any issues. We hit the UTV trails everyday during our stay and got some amazing photos. We will be back in the future!

Incredible!
This is a cozy cabin nestled between stunning snow capped mountains at high altitude. Despite getting 8 inches of snow, on top of the two feet of snow left over from winter, it was plenty warm. It is off the grid with no cell service so it is very peaceful. Lots of time to read and snowshoe which is just what we wanted. The kitchen is well stocked for cooking big meals which you will want after high country adventures. Lots of firewood for a great wood stove with a glass door so you can enjoy the flames and stay very warm.

A few friends and I stayed here for a couple nights. We loved how secluded the cabin was and its incredible views of the surrounding San Juan peaks. Our favorite was sitting on the back deck in the afternoons. Will definitely look to stay here again!

Gorgeous location !
The location of this property was perfect. It is right off the million dollar highway so from the front porch you can watch the cars go by. At night though there is rarely any traffic & it is very quiet & so dark! The back porch has a view of the mountains & it’s perfect! & private & away from everything! We grilled out & enjoyed our supper on the backporch. The stars are also awesome here! There are no houses near by, no cell phone service & no wi fi. Do think in terms of a deer hunter type cabin... it has everything you need. Very well stocked kitchen too. Not fancy but perfect for a location for people who enjoy camping , viewing wildlife & outdoors. We saw moose, mule deer , elk & even a bear from the cabin! Elk & bear from the front porch on the mountain/ hill across the road. A mule deer in the front yard & 2 moose & quite a few mule deer in the back of the cabin. Loved seeing the wildlife & we got up early to sit on the porch to watch for them & stayed up late watching too. We also found the cabin does have a mouse population & we caught 3 while there. 😊 We would definitely stay here again if in this area. Relaxing & just enjoying the peace & quiet & gorgeous sunsets & sunrises while seeing wildlife made this cabin perfect for us!

Off-Grid Close to Grid
My hubby and I stayed at the Artist Cabin in the last week of October. We arrived when the sun had been long dark. So, we weren't too sure we would find the entrance off of Hwy550. But...surprise we did. Waking in the morning in the shade of the surrounding mountain peaks, was pretty amazing. When the sun started hitting the peak to our west, I just stood and stared. It was quite beautiful. We were lucky enough to have really amazing weather during our stay. So, we drove a couple of 4xr4 roads close-by like Ophir and Clear Lake. Both had some snow, but easily passable. Anyway, the cabin had all the necessary amenities for eating, sleeping, bathing and most importantly, staying warm. My hubby brought his portable TV from his 18-wheeler so we could watch movies after dinner each night, too. The cabin has plenty of info as to rules regarding how to deal with power and cleaning. It wasn't hard to take care of everything. Glad we had stayed here and definitely would recommend to anyone who is looking to stay in the heart of the San Juans.

Excellent Cabin Retreat
Perfect quaint cabin in the middle of the mountains easily accessible from local roads. Close to local trails ranging from medium to hard and right in the middle of wildlife. Would definitely return in the future!

Communication and being stranded - booked nearly a month in advance!!
Never received access to the property!!!! Communication through VRBO messages went totally unanswered, called the property owner with 0 response, emailed the property owner with 0 response. Had to find last minute properties and hotels outside the location we wanted to be in. Nearly left homeless so to speak thanks to the complete unprofessional acts of this property owner. And!!!!! He kept my money! I am working with VRBO to get a refund. Beware this property - you could be left stranded and have to fight to get your money back. Pure scam artist - you’ve been warned and I hope you don’t take a chance on this property. Location, looked amazing - sad really!!

We are sorry this happened to this renter BUT access was given by email a week prior to stay. Renter didn't bother to make sure they read their email, then waited until they arrived to tell me they didn't have access. We try to stay accessible by phone but we also have a life so encourage renters to make sure they have all the information before the date of their arrival. This RENTER DID receive a full refund even though it was their fault for not looking at their email.

Great cabin, great location, great views.
This cabin is exactly as advertised. Comfortable and well equipped cabin in a wonderful location, with 360 degree views of the mountains. This is not a fancy mountain lodge type cabin. The “artists” cabin is the place to stay if you want to be right in the middle of what the area has to offer. Located between Silverton and Ouray, right off the “million dollar highway “, Comfortable and well equipped cabin that I will definitely recommend to anyone wanting to enjoy the natural beauty and wildlife of the region. We had a wonderful stay in this lovely cabin. Location is not only stunning but close to both Silverton and Ouray. Cabin had everything we needed to have a great family get together.

Cabin in the mountains
David did great with getting us into the house. The cabin is without amenities that we are used to. No internet and not cell service can make for some long evenings. Also no microwave or tv. But it is as advertised.

Unforgettable
This property completely filled us with Joy. It provides every benefit that being in the wilderness provides with the comforts of a cabin. We sat by the fire playing games and eating sandwiches all night and could not have been happier. Come morning we watched the sunrise over the mountains which surround the property and went snowshoeing and tobogganing. The owners have thought of everything and there are numerous signs/reminders to help you navigate your stay. Loved the sled provided to transport items from the car, and the communication from the proprietor could not have been friendlier.
