Our family stayed at Casita Sun Star to celebrate my birthday in early October. We were a family of 6, including 4 adults (myself, husband, mother & teen) + 2 toddlers. The home is nicely decorated, bright and airy with a comfortable beach cottage feel. There was plenty of room to spread out for the six of us plus we had 2 family members over for dinner and no one felt too tight.
The home was FULLY stocked with most things you would need on your vacation. There was an overabundance of paper towels, toilet paper, bath & beach towels, kitchen utensils, pots/pans. There was even a couple of condiments left over. Although there were no actual coffee grinds, we did have a standard drip coffee machine and Publix or 7-11 was not too far away to grab any grocery items needed.
Chris and Eric with the management team were superior in their accessibility and responsiveness to any question that I had. Whether I called or emailed, they were always great about picking up the phone and calling me back. The cupcakes left for the family was a nice touch when we arrived.
The home itself is not on the center part of the Key but it is still very close to everything on that side and we found many things in walking distance. There is also a shuttle service nearby that you can take for free (accepts tips only) that can get you around.
The Duplex does share a wall with it's sister property but that unit has it's own pool and our neighbors were friendly. The walls were a little thin so we tried to be cautious of our children not banging around too much.
My only issue I ran into on my trip is that when I arrived, my kitchen floor wasn't super clean. We found sand and a few dead worms and a small dried up frog in the dining room. It made me believe that someone hadn't been there in a while to clean. I had called on a Sat. to make them aware of the issue (not Eric or Chris) and the lady that returned my call said that she'd have house-keeping come back out to do a clean up of the floors... They never arrived. In addition to that, we had an invasion of ants, both sugar and regular. The same person advised that she'd send maintenance to take care of it and she didn't. The gap seemed to be more of an issue with her forgetting to put the work order in since I had gotten excellent responses prior to that. Overall, this was a great home. Next time, I'd try a new one though. I saw Cottages on multiple property signs while there and would like to explore.
