Today, thanks to a massive effort to re-populate the species via in-captivity pairing, there are some two-hundred members. But their recovery is far from assured. The Oregon Zoo has undertaken its own recovery effort whose ultimate goal is the re-introduction of the species into the protected wilderness area around the Columbia River Gorge. In short, to bring them home. For now, they live out their days in a vast, outdoor aviary designed specifically to mimic their habitat in the wild. If you have never seen one up close before, I urge you to come take a look. They are larger than any flying bird you will ever see, unless you go to Peru. And though black and white practically from head to toe, their plumage shines and reflects the light like dark, polished metal. If that doesn't suit your fancy, I will tell you that, as with all big birds, if you wait around long enough, they will do something so awe-inspiring that it will take your breath away, and something so goofy that you will laugh out loud. We booked through Travelocity and the description never mentioned that the toilet was a bucket where one puts cedar shavings over your business. The toilet does not flush and it is a composting-type toilet. In texts prior to our stay, the owner/manager described that we should be careful with the "cedar loo toilet" that it doesn't "overflow". I was unfamiliar with that term but assumed it had sensitive plumbing because the mention of "overflowing". We were only at the place for 15 minutes and forfeited our 2-night stay. Later I requested a refund or partial refund and the owner refused. Otherwise the place is very clean and nice. I just wish the description was more accurate and that the owner would have had some sympathy for our lack of understanding.

Weekend wine tasting

This tiny home 'wine wagon' was the perfect place to stay while wine tasting in the area. It was so cozy and cute! Close enough to restaurants, wineries, but also felt secluded - we loved the quiet woodsy area. The host was very responsive to my questions before and even during our stay. It was very clean, bed was very comfortable. Loved the outdoor shower! Will definitely visit again!

Tiny house

We enjoyed experiencing tiny house living. We were very comfortable and Michelle responded to our questions promptly. The house is in a lovely forest setting! I wish we’d had more time to explore the surrounding area…next time!

Perfect Tiny Home for Getaway!

My husband and I stayed here for two nights. It was the perfect place for a small getaway. The tiny home was clean, stocked with all the essentials needed, and was VERY cozy and inviting. The outdoor shower was a real treat. We had a pleasant stay and would book with MJ again!

Perfect getaway spot near Portland!

I stayed with my 55 lbs dog for 4 days/3 nights and we had a wonderful time! The tiny home had everything we needed and MJ was incredibly responsive when I needed some cleaning supplies after my pup made a lil mess. The shower is EXQUISITE! Thanks again for everything.

Rustic quiet retreat

Transaction to rent was seamless. Lots of information and details that were helpful to know ahead of time. The tiny home had everything we needed to be comfortable during our 6 day stay. We loved the quiet and peaceful setting. We will stay again next time we come to Oregon.

I love coming to the Tiny House Village it’s always a restful stay sitting on the deck or quiet walks & long nap; and no mater what house you stay in its well equipped and has everything you need. Michelle is a great Host I’ll be back again!

Quaint Little House

My friend and I decided we needed respite in the forest and couldn’t have found a more picturesque and comfortable spot! Our hose Michelle was very prompt and communicative as well…what a fascinating story of how she started the tiny house village! The house met all of our needs and we adored the outside shower. Thoughtful little touches for snacks and guide books. We definitely would recommend anyone stay at the Wine Wagon!

Delightful, Quiet Tiny Home

Slept peacefully with windows open all night (July) and breezes whispering thru the pines. Michelle is an excellent host, came down to visit a few times, and she has amazing stories about her business!
