Beautiful, clean, and lots of room!

We had a great time. The house is adorable and was very clean. Lots of space for the family to gather and play games. Beautiful views too!!

The best weekend in a long time!

Thanks to our hosts, we managed to get in last minute during the hottest weekend in California. The weather was amazing, the sunsets beautiful, the location like no other.. we will be back!

Unplug and Relax

We had a great time in Shelter Cove. This is a great place to getaway and unplug from reality. We needed a break from the corporate world and this trip definitely gave us the break we needed. It is quiet, not crowded, and very relaxing.

Fantastic ocean-side retreat!

Amazing view, beautiful home (fully stocked) in a magical secluded setting, with terrific hosts right next door if you need anything. Couldn’t have asked for a better experience!

Our time at Black Sands Beach

We were in one of three houses we booked for a Celebration of Life. The outstanding accommodations, responsive hosts, amazing views, easy access to the beach, and walking distance to the other homes our family was in was perfect for us. Thank you!

Wedding

Our family booked a week in Shelter Cove to attend a wedding. The property was clean, neighbors friendly, and the view was priceless! The friendly and kind owners, Andy and Mary Ellen, would keep us posted as to the community events that occurred during the 4th of July week. Great time!

Gorgeous Ocean Views

This house was everything we hoped it would be. The views and location are excellent - Just a short walk to the beach and very convenient to hiking and biking trails and to the store and town. The house is spacious with large windows and deck and had everything we needed. The hosts are charming and helpful and enriched are stay. We hope to return.

Slice of Heaven

We loved the house, the neighborhood and the location so much that we want to come back again and again. The hosts were great - the house was immaculate and the black sand beach just steps away! The only downside was how fast the time went by. Escaping the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles was accomplished! Thank you so much to our incredible hosts. We will definitely be back.

Location is better than advertised

The house was perfect in almost always that mattered. The view was excellent, the proximity to the black sand beach and lost coast hikes were just what we needed. The only issue was that the host was away in FL. This meant we had no WiFi and cell service was spotty. But communing with nature was why we came here.

Close to the beach but property owner shows up unannounced

The house is nicely located within walking distance to the beach but beware we had the property owner right next door watching us and invaded our family time. She showed up unannounced. No window coverings along the side of the house that faces the owners.

It was exactly as advertised.

Very serene location. It is perfect for a remote family trip. The local little grocery store was very helpful as getting back to town takes a very long time (50 min if you have kids prone to motion sickness((very windy road)). The home was clean and stocked with anything you might need. Even Yahtzee! The host lives next door and is very helpful and kind. Keep in mind this property is time and emotionally intensive ;) to get in and out from town- so come for r&r and beauty right next to the ocean. It’s not the best location if you want to travel to lots of surrounding places. The ocean view is awesome and walking next to the ocean so nice. Keep in mind this part of the ocean is for looking at, not swimming or surfing. Very dangerous. But stunning and breathtakingly powerful. The wildlife was lovely! Birds, seals, sea lion, deer and we even saw a bear! It was awesome. The restaurant options were surprisingly good for such a remote location. We would definitely recommend this place! We are a family of 6 and the house fit us perfectly.

Wonderful stay!

This home and location are incredible. The pictures don’t do it justice. Plenty of space for our family of 6 and fully stocked with everything we needed. Mary Ellen was right next door and very quick to respond. We’d love to visit again! Thanks for everything!

Spectacular vacation!

This property is wonderful and a great place for people wanting to get away from tourist areas. The house is beautiful and well appointed, and the beach and town are incredible. I really wish we had been able to stay longer.

Amazing Stay!

We had an amazing stay over the weekend. Explored the beach which was a short walk away, hiked some local trails and enjoyed sitting on the deck watching all the wildlife. House was very nice for our family with plenty of room for the kids and adults.

Best people.

We had a plumbing issue and my husband told the owners. They live next door. Within a half hour the plumber was there and issue fixed. Owners are sensitive to interaction with the people in the house. We enjoyed their conversation and agreed that if we were feeling it was too much we would let them know. It wasn’t and we enjoyed them. We will be back.

Tourist info if you’re not there to fish

.the black sand beach is dangerous and rocky but the small beach by the boat launch area was nice for little kids. It was fun going to the tide pools by the lighthouse and seeing/hearing the sea lions. Close by beautiful redwoods. The road to shelter cove winds a lot! wouldn’t drive down it again in the late afternoon because the shadows made it harder to drive. View from the deck was awesome and the salt air was clean and fresh smelling. Very remote. Load directions to the house in google maps beforehand as we got into town and couldn’t get google maps to work until we drove north a bit in town

Lost coast trail trip

My brother and I backpacked the Lost Coast Trail, and this place is literally steps from the trail head at Black Sands Beach. It was perfect and amazing to be able to get in and take a shower and set on the couch after 4 days backpacking. The owner was great and let us check in early when we made it of the trail a few hours earlier than we planned and even had a big jug of ice water waiting for us. The views were gorgeous and it was so nice to spend another few nights listening to the ocean before we headed home. The downstairs garage left plenty of shaded space to sort out backpacking gear so we didn’t have to haul it into the house and mess things up. Highly recommend this place.
