That's what a guest said about Black Bear Mountain Retreat, our Wears Valley cabin outside Sevierville. Mornings start with coffee on the porch while your kids claim the game room; evenings end at the hot tub after one more game of pool. Five miles from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park welcome center, our cabin sits near the top of a ridge in Wears Valley. All five bedrooms have their own full bathroom, the wrap-around deck holds a hot tub facing the mountains, and the lower level is a game room with a pool table, air hockey, and an arcade console. A sunrise from the porch and an evening in the hot tub make an easy day of it.

Three levels keep a group of twelve from stacking up in one room. The main level holds the kitchen, the dining table, and the living room with a stone fireplace, with bedrooms opening off it. Downstairs is the second living area and the game room, with the bunk room right beside it so the kids can move between the two. At the top of the house, the loft king looks out through the peak windows at the ridge, two floors up from the game room.

The deck wraps the entire house, so you can follow the light around it: rocking chairs at one end for the sunrise, the other end for the sunset over the valley. The hot tub sits under a covered corner with the ridge straight ahead, and the charcoal grill and outdoor dining table are a few steps away for dinner outside. Bears pass through often enough that guests count them from the deck, three cubs napping in a tree one morning while their mother foraged out back.

HOUSE RULES

• No smoking or vaping inside; smoking outdoors only

• Booking guest must be 23 or older, with ID, and present during the stay

FAQ’s

• Exterior security cameras cover the front door, the upper and lower porch areas, and the upper side and rear deck. They record sound as well as video. There are no cameras inside our cabin.
• Built for family trips and group trips, twelve guests with a private bathroom for every bedroom
• Bears live here and pass through regularly. Please don't feed them, keep trash in the bins with the lids closed, and lock your car doors, since bears have learned how to open them. The deck is the best seat for watching them.
• Children need an adult with them in the hot tub. Please shower before getting in, keep glass out of the tub area, and close the cover when you're done.
• Our cabin sits near the top of a ridge and the road up is steep and winding. Take it slow, especially after dark.
• Three levels with stairs between them and no elevator. The bunk room and game room are on the lower level.
• Please keep food and drinks off the pool table and the arcade machines.
• Cleaned between every stay with fresh linens and towels.

Guest access
You have exclusive use of our entire cabin for your stay, all three levels, every bedroom and bathroom, the kitchen, both living areas, the game room, the laundry, and the full wrap-around deck with the hot tub. Self check-in with a smart lock, and the code comes to you before arrival. The driveway is yours as well. The only spaces that stay locked are our owner's closet and storage closet up in the loft area.

Other things to note
We have wonderful wildlife in the area. Bears are a common site. Please be respectful of the animals and do not feed them. Observe them from the balcony as they are beautiful in the wild. Keep your car locked at all times as Bears can open the door to get food.
