  • Designed by John S. Norris for General Hugh Weedon Mercer, construction of the house began in 1860. Construction was interrupted by the American Civil War, and finally completed around 1868 by the new owner, John Wilder. Before Hansford's death, as retold in Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, the house had already been the scene of two deaths. In 1913, a previous owner tripped over the second floor banister, fractured his hip, and suffered a concussion, dying three days later. In 1964, a boy chasing pigeons on the roof fell over the edge and impaled himself on the iron fence below.

The Harcourt Manor fit our Savannah week perfectly. Three couples had ample space for relaxing and enjoying themselves. Everyone agreed we would choose HC for another Savannah visit.

Host was very responsive and helpful. Location was fantastic. Close walk to everything. House was better than the pictures even indicated. Very very clean. Five stars all of the way! Only hesitation is that the side street (on the side of the bedrooms) is very noisy at night. If you are traveling with a family and have kids trying to sleep that might be an issue. This is by no fault of the owners. House more than makes up for it. Just something to note.

This historic home is charming and was a great fit for our family spending Christmas in Savannah. The house is well-maintained, and the hosts were easy to get in touch with. I would highly recommend it. Also, the location is hard to beat.

The property was just as advertised. Great location, very convenient. Extremely well-appointed with amenities not often found at other locations. Chase was terrific host, attentive and offered lots of local tips. I highly recommend and we will definitely stay again in the future.

My hosts were absolutely AMAZING and welcoming. The house was 1st class all the way from the open and spacious rooms to the amenities. If I or anyone I know are going to be in or around Savanah, I would absolutely stay here again or recommend to friends or family stay here.

This historic and beautiful home was in a great location, accessible to all of the Savannah Historic District and many restaurants and museums. Being there made us feel like we were immersed in the history of Savannah. The layout of the house was great and the furnishings were perfect for the time period of the neighborhood without giving up the expected modern technology. This rental was easily the cleanest property of the many properties we have been in. And having a dedicated garage was a major plus. Finally, the host very responsive, answering questions very quickly.

Absolutely stunning. We rented this property for family members during our wedding weekend and everyone was floored by how beautiful and spacious it was. The location is perfect and only a couple minutes walk to Forsyth park. I highly recommend this home!

We enjoyed a Delightful week at the Manor house. Chase and Brandon were extremely communicative & helpful well before we even arrived.The house was immaculate, and all essentials were covered.The location is ideal, and perfect for beautiful neighborhood strolls. Any questions were met with immediate responses while we were there.The beds were All amazingly comfortable and the rooms all very accommodating.We stayed with our 2 young adult daughters and the space was ideal.We will not hesitate to schedule again when going back to Savannah.Appreciate the Kind courteous service!

We loved this property! We stay in Savannah quite often and this is definitely in my top now. There was enough room to spread out. There were plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms, everything was super clean. It was just a great gathering home for my daughter‘s wedding week beginning and would definitely stay there again! The communication was great with the owners and the house had everything we needed.
