Construction was interrupted by the American Civil War, and finally completed around 1868 by the new owner, John Wilder. Before Hansford's death, as retold in Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, the house had already been the scene of two deaths. We loved our stay on Orleans Square. The property is perfectly located to enjoy Savannah. The property was clean and nicely decorated.

Located in the bottom part of a 170 year old home, it’s a bit creaky but very comfortable. We loved the walkable distance to almost everything we wanted to see.

Base camp for exploring Savannah

Well maintained property blocks away from most sites. Decor is attractive, but furniture not particularly comfortable to sit on. Since we didn't spend our time at this ground level apartment, that really didn't matter. The kitchen is well equipped and though small, the one bathroom is adequate. Parking for one full size vehicle is available. The owners live above the apartment and because it's an old house, you can occasionally hear footsteps from above. Other than that, it's a quiet neighborhood and nice location.

Great location

Very nice and clean. All the amenities needed for an extended stay. A BBQ outside would be nice but we made do without. No grocery extras so you need to shop for any and all supplies. This place is right across the street from Mrs Wilkes’ Kitchen, a must for any foodie!

Beautiful Jones Street Residence for Two

Very clean, great location! Pretty living room. A perfect place to relax and read a book or what ever brings you peace. Comfortable bedroom and efficient kitchen. Gorgeous patio and quiet neighborhood. Well maintained. Parking was not a probem. Only area that we were not happy about was the squeeking bathroom door that doesn't close.

Perfect Place for Perfect Vacation

This property has everything one could need in a vacation rental. The property is clean, the bed is comfortable, the decor is impeccable. The bath towels are 5 star hotel quality. We enjoyed the beautiful courtyard for morning coffees and evening snacks and drinks. Southern Belle even texted us to make sure we had no problems which I thought was a nice touch. I recommend this property and Southern Belle.

Charming apartment and Great Location

First time in Savannah and what an experience starting with this charming apartment on a beautiful quiet street. Beautiful courtyard and 2 sitting areas in the apartment. Having a dedicated parking space was a benefit for sure. Walkable to Forsyth Park, restaurants and shops. Property manager was very helpful and checked on us right away for anything we needed. Highly recommend and would definitely stay again.

Beautiful Location

For the most part we had a wonderful stay at this location. The good far outweighs the, I won't even say bad, lets just say less than desirable. None of my comments should be taken as negative. Use them as educational. Luckily, we arrived at the same time as the tenet upstairs did and he was able to let us in the keyed entry gate. I guess I misunderstood that you had to pick up the gate keys at the property office lock box a few blocks away. The door combo worked well. As expected, the pictures make the place look much larger than it really is but there was plenty of room for the wife and I. However, the bathroom was quite small. A large person might have trouble squeezing through the opening between the wall and corner of the bathroom vanity and if you are over 6' tall your knees may come close to touching the bathroom vanity when you are sitting on the toilet. We were rationed three bath towels and four rolls of toilet paper for out four night stay. This wasn't a big deal. We didn't run out. The apartment was nicely decorated however the living room furniture was not the most comfortable in the world. None of this impacted our stay. The king size bed was vary comfortable and the climate control was easy to operate. There were several different floor levels throughout the house. This probably can be explained because the building was built in the mid 1800's. This would not be a good place for someone that had disabilities or mobility issues. Again, don't take my statements in a negative manor. We had a great time. The apartment met our needs very well. I had to contact the property managers several times in reference to a special delivery I was expecting and every time they were very nice, very friendly and eager to meet my needs. The staff exceeded my expectations. The apartment was very clean. The view of the street was awesome. It is located on one of the prettiest streets in Savannah. Plenty of shops around. I don't think they were a coffee shop but they did sell coffee located less than a block away. Also, you would never know it from the outside but there is a home style restaurant located across the street. There was no signage stating as such. This apartment had it's own parking spot in the rear which was handy. If you are not old like me you can darn near walk to many of the restaurants and bars. There is no shortage of bars in Savannah either. We had a great time and we would definitely stay again.

The location cannot be beat

I will start with the good stuff: The location is perfect, between the riverfront and Forsyth Park. We were able to walk almost everywhere. The parking spot was also a bonus. When we came home from our day trips there was no searching for spots or plugging meters. The flat was very quiet. The rental above us was empty. There was almost no street noise. The neighborhood was clean and quiet. The bed was very comfortable. The water pressure in the shower was good (even though the shower head leaked). We did not rely much on the AC as it was October, but I can see how that small unit would never cool the entire flat. The sunroom is the hangout spot if you want heat or AC. The less than good stuff: We could not use the garden area as every one of the chairs were broken. We had a broken chair in the sunroom. The bathroom sink didn't drain properly. I am not sure the duvet cover had been changed as it smelled heavily of Febreeze. We had to wash it twice it was so suffocating in smell. Most of the knives in the knife block were rusty. Not so much as salt and pepper in the kitchen. The WIFI was unreliable in the evenings. In the mornings it was fine. The unit has so much going for it. All it needs is a little TLC and attention. The important parts - the location, the parking, the quiet, the comfy bed are all on point.

Best street in Savannah!

First off, the property is spectacular!!! Beautifully decorated and perfect location. Free parking space in back is a definite plus as parking in downtown Savannah can be tricky! We had a bit of issue finding the keys as it was dark when we arrived. Was unable to get I touch with someone to help so we figured it out. Also, I agree with some former guests. Savannah is HOT in the summer months and one small mini split unit for the whole place doesn’t work. Thankful for a ceiling fan in the master. We could not get it set at 70 and the property managers said they’d have someone to check it. Not sure if they did or not because it never cooled off for us. All in all, I’d stay again for the location and southern ambience you get! Thanks for hosting us.

Great Location, almost perfect!

We very much enjoyed the historic location And feel of the condo. Central to all the Savannah "must do's". The king bed and bedroom are cozy and comfy. Nice to recharge after a day at the beach or exploring rhe city. The included air mattress, which allows for that third person, was a good option for a teenager. Great water pressure which I was thrilled with considering the age of the building. A couple improvements would have made this rental perfect.. air conditioning. **It's there** but the unit does nothing to keep up with 90+ degree humid days. We had to go purchase a fan to be cool enough to sleep. Other than the bed, the furniture is likely the most uncomfortable I have seen in a home. We weren't there a lot besides sleeping, but a soft comfy couch would have made a huge difference! Overall, a good stay!

Great Getaway

Jones Street Retreat

This was the best location in Savannah to stay! Beautiful street and within walking distance to all of the historic distric and the river and downtown. Very nice accommodations and the private parking spot was a bonus!

VRBO Built in1853

Property had lots of room except for the bathroom which was very small. Since the building was built in 1853, when you first enter the property the air is very musty smelling. The house was nicely furnished & the patio was wonderful. The only major problem we had was the lock & key. The key would not unlock/lock either the back or front doors easily. Having a parking space in the alley way behind the property was a plus!

What a perfect place for a couple's stay in Savannah. Superb accomadations, beautiful neighborhood/street, plenty of amenities, etc. Now if the city govt would only stop the panic button pushing and return the DOT to service !
