From the start Jerry was very helpful with planning our stay with lining up our Tropic Air flights and the onsite golf cart rentals. Everything went flawless. At the home, Carlos, Lucita, and Ayzer were the best hosts and made this amazing stay what it is! Anything we needed they were there to help. All of the food was delicious and ready for whatever time we asked for. Carlos also grill for us a couple of nights when we asked. Ayzer was very helpful in the fishing dept, always making sure to catch us bait and join us fishing on the dock! We traveled to town and secret beach a couple of times and the road is not near as bad as some people describe it. We spent a lot of time on the dock and just hanging out on the deck. We enjoyed spending time with Carlos, Lucita, and Ayzer all week. No one in our group had any complaints. It was the best trip any of us have been on and we have traveled many different places. Thank you Carlos, Lucita, Ayzer, and Jerry for making this stay as great as it was!

We stayed here for our annual mom’s trip. There were 5 of us and we had more than enough room. Carlos, his sister, and nephew were wonderful hosts. Carlos helped us with whatever we needed during our stay and all of our meals were great. As moms we really enjoyed not having to worry about meals and cleanup. The house is on a beautiful piece of property with a fantastic dock. A golf cart is a must so you can explore!

Jerry was very helpful as we planned our stay, arranging our transportation to/from San Pedro and making us feel comfortable that they would handle anything we needed. On site, Carlos, Lucita and Izer were wonderful hosts. They offered their island expertise as well as delicious food. They helped us with whatever we needed, including helping us to fish off the pier - my daughter caught her first 2 fish and then Carlos grilled them for dinner! The location is a bit of a trek to town (50 minutes on very bumpy roads), but there are some nice beaches and even a bar nearby. The house itself was spacious for our group of 7 and provided a great space for us all to hang out together. We spent more time on the pier than the pool only because the pool was unusually buggy for this time of year. We would highly recommend Escape Away House.

Our stay was okay, but the property did not fully match our expectations based on the listing and photos. We were aware that caretakers lived on the property, and they were genuinely kind, hospitable, and responsive. Carlos was very helpful whenever issues arose and clearly cared about making our stay comfortable.One of the biggest gaps between expectations and reality was the food experience. The listing indicated a private chef with food included and suggested meals could be customized. In practice, the cook offered only a few rotating options and was unable to prepare many requested items. There was no menu provided in advance, so meals felt limited to what was already available. This is not a criticism of the cook herself, who seemed to be doing her best, but rather reflects a mismatch between expectations set by the listing and the experience we had.On the positive side, the property was quiet and secluded, which we appreciated, and the pool was a highlight, especially for the kids. The dock was also very convenient for tour pickups.We did experience issues with the golf carts, which are essential for getting around the island. The four-person cart appeared to need maintenance, and during our stay a wheel bearing failed and the wheel came off the axle. While this was addressed promptly, it was concerning.Finally, the house felt tired and more worn than the photos suggested.

Property was very far from town because of road conditions. Hosts are nice and once we really knew food choices, cook did a great job feeding us. Pier and palapa good, beach dirty. Excursions right from dock were awesome! House needs a little tlc. Be prepared to have to pick all of your meals and times and make your own coffee.

Great hospitality from Carlos, Lucita, and Izer. Would come again! We enjoyed fishing right off the doc and getting the fish cooked for dinner. Overall the house was comfortable, well stocked, kids loved playing corn hole and the kayaks and pool. We did fishing, snorkeling, and scuba activities and were able to see sharks, rays, and more. Def rent the golf cart to get around and bring lots of bug spray for the mosquitos. The trip to secret beach and Caye Caulker was fun too. There is definitely the seaweed but just a little ways out water is nice and clear.

We created wonderful family memories. The property was as pictured and as described with all the privacy we wanted. One day we asked the excellent staff to go offsite for the day so that we could feel like we lived there - then we were so happy when Chef came back and made us a late snack at 8pm. We enjoyed the recently renovated spotlessly clean swimming pool and the kids loved fishing off the private pier. We will be back again soon.

This house and pool are kept immaculate. The caretakers are extremely accomodating and will do everything in their power to help you, including cooking great meals at your convenience. The dock provides a relaxing retreat overlooking the ocean, and it's so fun to paddle the kayaks out to the reef. Diving and other activities can be arranged so that you are picked up right there! I come back every year, and I feel like I am returning to my home away from home.

We recently stayed at this VRBO and while the property itself was beautiful and well-kept, our experience was affected by some natural elements beyond anyone’s control — namely, a heavy influx of sargassum and a noticeable bug presence when the wind was calm. These made it a little more challenging to enjoy the beach and outdoor areas as much as we’d hoped.That said, the hospitality we received more than made up for it. The host was incredibly generous and communicative throughout our stay, and Carlos and his family truly went above and beyond. They prepared delicious meals for us, made sure we had everything we needed, and even woke up before dawn to drive my husband into town so he could join a dive trip to the Blue Hole. Their kindness and attentiveness made a huge difference and helped us feel cared for every step of the way.If you're considering this property, I’d recommend checking in with the host about seasonal conditions. With better timing, this place could be an ideal escape — especially with such a thoughtful team looking after you.

Misrepresented Property, Unsafe & Unhygienic ConditionsUpon arriving at this property, we were shocked at the condition of the home and amenities. Nothing looked like the pictures listed online, and the home reeked of smoke, had bugs all over the floors, counters, and bedrooms. Unfortunately, it was too late for us to leave, but we immediately left the following morning. This rental stay was completely misrepresented and unacceptable.While the on-site staff, siblings Carlos and Lucita, were kind and tried to help, the owner, Jerry Kirsch, was rude, not responsive once we explained our concerns, and accused us of not discussing our issues with the staff before leaving, which is not true. The staff and their two children, along with a dog, live in the same house, directly below the rental unit, which was never disclosed. This ruined any sense of privacy and was far from the “private home with private pool" experience they push heavily on their post. It's all a scam! Frustrating that VRBO and the owner allow folks to continue renting with several of the same comments and feedback, having the same concerns, without any change or attention.Cleanliness & Safety:The pool was green and unswimable, had broken tiles, and appeared unsafe and unusable. Despite being described as private, the downstairs residents and their children also use it. Anything but private!

Our family loved our island time together.The property was as described and we loved having our meals made for us and especially loved that the dishes were washed up too. It was a real vacation for all of us.Lucita is a wonderful chef and we especially enjoyed the fresh grilled lobster! The listing is described a private home and pool, but we arrived to find two adults, two children, and a dog living directly beneath the property, under the steps to our rental facing the pool.We had to insist just to receive a key to secure our own door. Meanwhile, the downstairs unit had security bars on their windows, while we were expected to leave our doors unlocked.The the shower in the ensuite bathroom never stopped dripping water and it was difficult to sleep. None of the beds had blankets only sheets.Additionally, the pool was green with algae, the pump wasn’t functioning, and what was described as a private amenity turned out to be anything but. When we left for the day, the downstairs residents and their children would use the pool, leave items and dirty underwear on the deck, and further diminish any sense of privacy.Several key features advertised were completely missing, including:No fire pit, BBQ, corn hole or yard games, bikes, fishing gear or bait, broken TV-new one was replaced halfway through, only one kayak provided initially, despite advertising two – we had to press to get the second one, laundry service or dryer.Finally, the listing advertised groceries included, but again, we had to press repeatedly to receive even basic food.There is a disconnect between the owner and the on site hosts. We asked the hosts if they had read the listing and they said no. We told them they should read it so they understand why guests are disappointed.

Everything about this listing is 15 years old. There is nothing luxury about this house. When we arrived, Carlos met us at the airport with an old 6 seater golf cart that I paid extra to rent only to find out later it’s cheaper in town. The 8 miles from San Pedro by golf cart takes 45 minutes on unpacked bumpy roads. We arrived at the house and were instantly shocked. Carlos and Lucita and 2 school aged children live on the main floor. They had their laundry hanging visibly and he had tools and some wood laying around. The manicured beach is a joke. While the sea weed may be out of control this year, there has been no attempt to remove it like everywhere else on the island. The smell is over powering. The dock has empty bottles on it and a broken swing. Then back on the property I noticed cornhole to which Carlos said there are no bags as the dog ate them. Such a simple fix and no. Then onto the pool. It hasn’t been new in years. There were broken tiles in and around the deck. The inside had algae on all walls and on the bottom. The new lounge chairs were two mismatched dirty loungers. There was a palm tree that had been rigged with a light that was lit with exposed wires. We had two 7 year olds with us. This is so dangerous. Inside the house there was no smoke detector in the space where it appeared one had been. There’s a light switch behind the water cooler with exposed wires. The new private third bedroom is a bed on a porch with a sliding door. etc

**A Memorable Stay with Mixed Feelings**

Carlos and Lucita were truly incredible—they made our stay feel like we were visiting family, not just guests. Their kindness and dedication were the highlight of the trip. **Pros**: - Beautiful views - Exceptionally warm and attentive staff -Early Check in**Cons**: -Distance from town- This is at least 45 minutes from town and 30 min from secret beach on a terrible dirt road with lots of potholes you have to swerve to miss. - The front door (2 sliding glass doors) let in bugs and lizards. One of these doors should be stationary. - Several windows didn’t close all they way, with no screens. Letting more bugs and lizards in. - Toilets gave us trouble, and an open septic tank hole remained exposed—unsafe and unsanitary. - No dryer as listed, just a clothesline. Pack accordingly and plan your wash days based on the weather. - Golf carts were in poor condition: broken windshields, wouldn’t start, one backfired constantly. - Listing claimed amenities like BBQ, gym, and private chef—but there was no grill or gym, and the "chef" experience was more like home cooking (though Lucita tried her best). A menu would help future guests plan meals and set expectations upfront-Communication from owner totally stopped once we arrived. With some investment from the owner and honest listing updates, this could be a standout destination. The people made it special—but the property needs work.

We arrived and left within 3 hours. We found other accommodations. The staff were very friendly. The owner was rude and accused us of verbally abusing the staff which was NOT true! It was dirty and unacceptable. The staff live in the same house with at least 2 children and a dog that was not mentioned. The staff was also using the dirty pool area while we were on site. We paid to rent a golf cart for the entire stay. It was not in good shape but it did run. We have not been refunded any money.

Perfect family time together

Thank you Jerry our Belize vacation was very relaxing and adventurous. Carlos greeted us at tropic air and took us to pick up fresh fruit, beer and fish at the grocery store and stands around town. He showed us where to get some great wine and vodka, familiarized us with town and stopped to get us fresh watermelon juice. Carlos paid for our groceries and took us to the Escape Away Beach House where Lucy was waiting for us. The beach was clean and the water was crystal clear we saw the stingrays and needle nose fish right off the peer. We walked along the beach for miles and went for dinner one night at a close beach resort. Carlos took us fishing off the dock at night and caught 4 snapper, which Lucy grilled for dinner. The house and property was very clean and the new swimming pool was wonderful. We rented a golf cart and drove it to town for the day, it was paved ½ way and we saw the tractors working as you can definitely travel to town in 30 minutes. Carlos also arranged our tour to shark ray alley with the private captain for the day, which picked us up at the dock. The buoy we kayaked to was in a perfect spot for snorkeling and videoing the reef. I’m so glad we didn’t have to pay for other tours as we went out every morning exploring. The property and the experience exceeded our expectations. We recommend the Escape Away Beach House to our family and friends. We will return again next year as Jerry respected and responded immediately to all of our questions

I dont believe in perfect, but this was close! The property itself is beautiful. The views are stunning. Carlos and Lucita are amazing. Carlos ensures the property is clean and well maintained and Lucita ensures your belly stays full. They were a pleasure to get to know and by far the best part of our stay. The pool and pier were great features that we enjoyed greatly. The road to town is bumpy but we enjoyed our several trips, even taking a trip into town at night and felt completely safe doing so. Word of warning, the mosquitos can be terrible at certain times of the day so pack your bug spray! Book this place, you wont regret it! We've already booked our return stay for next summer!

BAMBOOZLED!

I was lured in by the beauty of the property pics and the many 5-star reviews, but not everything is as it seems. 1. You will not be picked up in a car. You will ride in a golf cart. My boyfriend had to go with Carlos to pick up another golf cart that was in the shop. Carlos was accommodating, because we were able to get an earlier flight from Tropic Air. When we arrived at the house after 4pm the floor was still being mopped and there was a sink full of dirty dishes. 2. Escape Away Beach House is only 8 miles from the airport. It was the bumpiest ride of my life. I feel like I now have osteoporosis. My suitcase was dirty from driving over mud puddles.3. The house is rustic at best. The entrance is a sliding glass door with no lock. Even if it did lock, you can open it from the other side. The caretakers of the property who live downstairs have iron bars on their windows and sliding glass door. There were also other voices that we heard coming from the living area downstairs, even though we only saw the two caretakers. 4.The beach has foul smelling sargassum/seaweed that extends past the dock. You can even smell it inside the house. 5. It is dangerous to snorkel there. There are boats that pass by the docks all day long. If you were to kayak beyond the sargassum, you would be in the area where the boats pass. Even if they see the kayak, you may be snorkeling away from the kayak, and you would be hard to spot. 6. We were eaten alive! We had itchy bites all over.
I believe the water quality makes the tub hard to clean?

It could be awesome

First of all we did enjoy our stay and Carlos and Lucita are wonderful. Carlos works his tail off trying to keep the beach clean from the constant flow of sargassum/ seaweed. Lucita works hard to keep you fed but the menu is limited based on what is available. Both of them were so nice and would do anything to help make your stay great.The property was very clean but needs a lot of attention. The master bathroom tub faucet ran constant, not dripped but ran, and would not get hot but there was hot water. The lighting in the second bath needs work. The entire place needs a spruce up. All the outdoor furniture needs new cushions and painting.Although I asked Jerry the owner if the pool was heated and he said yes it was but there is no heater on the pool, never has been, which is completely shaded and cold, also no hot tub as listed. The biggest issue which is not in control of the property owner it is the overwhelming amount of trash and plastic litter on the entire island. Walking along the beach in either direction is all but impossible because of all the trash that we were told is from cruise ships dumping off shore because it is cheaper to pay the fine for dumping it instead of doing the right thing. So sad, because the water is so pretty around the island.We did go fishing and snorkeling with a shore lunch which was awesome, catching a lot of fish and conch. Also did a day trip to the Mayan ruins and cave float which was really cool but a very long day.
