This VRBO rental was a complete disaster. Here's a breakdown:
Uninhabitable Conditions: The place was teeming with roaches, a disgusting welcome. The kitchen faucet leaked, and a mountain of garbage sat outside our door, courtesy of inconsiderate neighbors (according to the manager).
Health Hazards: The second bedroom was a danger zone. Mold bloomed on the walls, accompanied by a suffocating musty odor. Water pockets bulged beneath the wallpaper, a clear sign of moisture problems. To top it all off, the shower offered only scalding hot or freezing cold water - no comfortable option in between.
Empty Promises: The property manager initially seemed apologetic, promising to take care of everything. The garbage did disappear, but that was the extent of their help. Communication, initially prompt, slowed to a crawl, and the other issues remained unresolved.
Broken Commitments: We were offered a partial refund and a discount for the future – neither materialized. The listing was a complete misrepresentation of the property.
VRBO's Response: After numerous phone calls, emails, and wasted hours, VRBO has yet to issue the credit they promised 5 days ago.
Lessons Learned: Document Everything! Take pictures and videos of the problems you encounter. Be Prepared for a Fight: Getting a resolution might require persistence and a lot of communication.
There are plenty of other great rental options out there – choose one of them!
