This house is uniquely located surrounded by jungle, but easily walkable to town / beach. We enjoyed the pool and watching the monkeys make their way through the tree line surrounding the house. We did not use transportation during our five night stay. We walked to town for groceries, meals, beach, etc. - within 10 minute walks. If you plan to walk, be aware the driveway from the main road up to the house is very steep. It was a nice workout but could be a problem for some. Communication with host/prop manager was great. This house made for a wonderful Sámara experience.

Samara stay

We had a great time in this Samara house. Lovely views from every room. Great swimming pool. Monkeys came one night which was delightful! The walk back from town is short and steep but manageable. Lovely town with lots of good restaurants. Overall very fun and relaxing. Leonie very communicative and gave us good recommendations.

Villa Eden

Our stay was wonderful. As others have mentioned Leonie the manager was very helpful and accommodating, and the villa was decorated and appointed in a minimalist style. The barbecue fell short of what you would expect for a villa and seemed out of sync with the property. The pool is incredible and made up for a beach that had a bigger surf than we were comfortable with for swimming. The pool is large, and clean with a beautiful view. The nature environment included visiting monkeys and multitudes of birds. Very lovely.

Location, location, location

This house is amazing and the location is excellent. It is very secluded, safe and completely private with jungle around all sides of the house. The pool was great and we used it a lot. There is a lovely outdoor shower below the pool. We had monkeys come up to the house several times and we also enjoyed watching birds, bats and iguanas while hanging out outside and floating around in the pool. You are staying in the middle of Samara with a very short walk to shops, grocery stores, restaurants, activities and the beach. Most days we didn't use our rental car. The only things we missed were beach toys. It would have been lovely to have a couple of boogie boards, chairs and an umbrella. Also, the beds are VERY firm. Overall, I would highly recommend this house. It was perfect for our family of 4 where the kids had their own bedrooms and bathrooms.

Overall AMAZING Experience

Where do I start ? We arrived late in the evening, we had communicated with the property manager when we were about an hour out that we were on our way. When we got there the property manager had a small meltdown and thought we were coming the next night and the condo wasn't ready. When we reminded her we had called she had us confused with other guest. BUT ! She let us in the condo and we dropped our bags off and went to eat dinner. She said text when you are done and I will personally come pick you up and bring you back - which she did. She was super apologetic and nice. The condo itself is absolutely beautiful. It is high on a hill and we are not in the best shape, but it gave us a great work out. The pool is so nice and spotless. The condo itself was sparkling clean with comfortable spacious rooms. We loved the space. The 3rd night, we had a problem with the sewer/water leaking out of all the bathrooms. Again the property manager responded to our texts on a Sunday night and sprung into action. We were able to move to the next condo over which was pretty much identical and sleep there until the plumbing was fixed (which was the next day) We had a few bumps in the road, but they took great care of us and you couldn't beat the view from the condo. They even refunded us 2 nights. We would stay again in a heartbeat. The monkeys and the birds were great companions at this condo and we are very pleased with the way our misfortunes were handled. Leonie was a class act.

Beatufil location in Samara

The house sits high up on a bluff above the town and Samara Beach. You can see the ocean from the house and even hear the waves hitting the beach. The jungle below is filled with wildlife. We had monkeys visiting, iguanas, coati mundis and a wonderful variety of birds. The lap pool was wonderful for us to swim in each day to cool off as February is very hot. The one difficulty is that no one really maintained the cleanliness of the pool and we were left to clean leaves and bugs out ourselves each day, which was doable, but not always how we wanted to spend our time. The house is very spare. No books or games or extras of any kind, but the beds and furniture in the living area were very comfortable. The air conditioning works wonderfully and each room has it's own split. We could never get the television or washing machine to work and didn't pursue it with anyone. Had we been there longer we might have. No one came to clean or look after anything at the house in the 10 days we were there, except a gardener early in the morning to water plants. There is one large bedroom with a king size bed and large bathroom and two small bedrooms with small bathrooms so it is challenging if you are two or three individuals as one bedroom is far superior to the others space wise. When we had questions or needed help, the management company, which is close by, were very kind and helpful in many ways and always made themselves available to us. The house is close to the town and the beach and there are many wonderful restaurants and cafes to visit. The food was fantastic and we loved the ambiance of the town. Good music as well at the restaurants. There are 4 houses on this property and they are far enough apart that you feel quite private. We didn't have a car and there is a quite steep hill to climb to get up to the house by foot which was challenging with groceries from the nearby market in hand, but otherwise not that big a deal though having a car or golf cart might have been good, but we didn't reserve in enough time and none were available. We had a very good time in Samara and at this house and I would stay there again.

Perfect - Will Return

Perfect location and amazing house

Great property in Samara within a short distance from the beach. A car is needed to really enjoy because of the steep hill in order to reach the property. The pool was the best as it had shade the entire afternoon making it a very pleasant place to hangout after the beach. Close to shopping and restaurants. Especially liked Mama Gui and their pizza's. Property management was excellent and very responsive. All in all a great experience.

The Facts

We loved our stay and would come back to this house. The vrbo description is a little off, so I thought I would clear up a few things. There is no hot tub. The grill is a charcoal grill. You can see the ocean, but I would not describe it as a panoramic view of the ocean. It is very conveniently located, but not an "easy" walk. The drive way is about two blocks long at a 30 degree angle. There are ants, but we brought our own replant, so it was not too bad. It is a little worn in US standards, but very typical for Costa Rica rentals. Don't take these comments as negative, just the facts. Once again we loved the place.

Not a great place to relax

This property is in a beautiful location. The pool is well maintained and has beautiful forest and ocean views. We loved the short walk to town and the beach. The town of Samara is great! We loved the food and nearby beaches. Despite these positives, I struggled to relax while staying in this home. We had a lot of problems from the moment we arrived. The front door was very difficult to open. The air conditioner in my daughters room leaked water all over the floor when it ran. It didn't get fixed until day 3 of our vacation. We love to cook but found this kitchen hard to cook in. Some items were absent (e.g. paper towels- at least a roll for the first night or two would be appreciated) or of poor quality (e.g. Knives were too dull to cut even a mango). When it rained, water came under the front door and made a river to the back door. The bugs inside the house were out of control. My husband spent about an hour every night swatting big red ants, spiders, and a few scorpions, looking for the ants points of entry and spraying them with raid, cleaning them out of our children's beds before we tucked them in, etc. I would expect some bugs when staying in the jungle but we had hundreds in the condo every night. When I spoke to the management company, they dismissed it, saying everyone has bugs. I appreciated when I contacted the owner that she asked the gardener to spray the exterior, but it didn't make much difference. Toward the end of our stay, my husbands detailed Raid spraying reduced them down to a reasonable number. Playing exterminator was not a relaxing way for him to spend his vacation. For my family, this rental didn't feel luxurious or relaxing.

Relaxing in style!

My family had the most wonderful 9 days here! This is an excellent spot for 3 couples to be together and have some privacy. The hillside setting on the edge of Samara was stunning. We all appreciated the views from the top of the hill and the quiet of the green space there. We saw so many beautiful birds everyday including the Black Headed Trogan and the Turquoise-Browed Mot Mot, along with a Coati sighting and an entire tribe of monkeys with young babies! The pool is the perfect gathering spot, and a comfortable welcome from the heat of the day and a hike up the hill. Felix kept it sparkling! The kitchen was well stocked for cooking. The ac worked well when necessary. The master bed is rather firm, as noted in other reviews. We hope to come back again and again! This is a fantastic vacation home!

Loved our stay

We stayed here on our honeymoon so we were looking for privacy, and we had it. We never saw anyone on the property. The house was clean, the air conditioner was great and the pool and view was amazing. We woke up every morning to the pool, ocean and jungle just outside our door and pinched ourselves. There are little ant looking bugs running around, but they didn't bother us. We are in the jungle after all. We loved having a washer to use. The only thing we didn't love was the hard mattress on the bed. We woke every morning with a stiff back and didn't sleep the best. Samara is a great little beach town. We would recommend it.

Excellent property, clean and functional with excellent views and an enjoyable private pool.

Definitely within walking distance to everything, in fact we enjoyed our little walks. The driveway is steep but quite manageable and a nice little bit of exercise which is good for everyone. Samara is a nice little, hip surf town.

Paradise

Sámara is the most Bohemian town we have visited in Costa Rica and absolutely the nicest. Being close to the main drag was convenient too as it was only a five minute walk down the hill and into the town. The property itself was lovely with excellent views, iguanas, and the sounds of howler monkeys. While the driveway is steep, it isn't very long and for the views, absolutely worth the climb. Barbara and her staff were very responsive and accommodating to our needs and I would recommend this property to anyone who enjoys the privacy of a nice house without the pampering of a nice resort. My 19 year-old son said of all the vacations we have ever taken, this was his favorite. Thank you Barbara.
