Very cool, historic hotel. Very nice dining room. Unfortunately some of our food arrived cold but the waiter looked. After it promptly and professionally and corrected the problem. Lovely town and a must stay!

A beautiful old world splendour greets you when you walk in the door. The receptionists were friendly and accommodating. Upon entering the room I was pleased to see the cleanliness and freshness of the facilities. It was obvious that the bathroom and sleeping facilities had been beautifully renovated to make the grand rooms downstairs. I would highly recommend The this accommodation.

Loved the location and cleanliness. Reception staff was excellent. Restaurant lacked knowledgable servers and food was mediocre. Took over two hours for food so don’t be in a hurry.

Das traditionsreiche Hotel ist zweifellos ein Juwel. Auf der Terrasse den Sonnenuntergang verfolgen, hinterlässt ein bleibendes Erlebnis. Trotz seines Alters ist das Hotel auch top in Schuss. Lediglich der Service hat noch deutlich Luft nach oben und wird dem Anspruch des Hauses nicht gerecht. Das betrifft nicht nur das Housekeeping, sondern leider auch das Restaurant.

Overall we enjoyed our stay very much. It met our expectations. Our only disappointment was slow dinner service due to a mix up and thus our meals took a long time to arrive.

Our second stay at this wonderful Hotel with a gap of 6 years, but everything was perfect as it was in 2017. The building and its situation is almost fairytale. I hope we can return again in the future.

This is a unique historical NZ colonial property set on the Russell waterfront and the centre of all the action in Russell.The entire hotel reflects its historical past with authentic decor, artefacts and art works. It is a sightseein opportunity in itself.All meals are offered in the dining areas which include a main indoor restaurant and a deck.A shady garden bar is inviting on a hot day.The food reflects the culinary offerings in Northland with delicious seafood dishes and the inventve use of traditional Maori kai such as boil up and hangi.The staff are efficient and friendly even at very busy times. Our standard room was spacious and well appointed.Situated on the first floor and on the garden bar side ,we appreciated the lift. Although it didn't bother us this side could be a bit noisy for some. We enjoyed the party atmosphere, the peep of the sea and the view to the hills above Russell.Plenty of other options for rooms in the hotel. The hotel is situated in the main shopping, dining area and close to the wharf, the beach, a tour office and local attractions. Other excellent beaches and vineyards are only a short drive away. There is a regular ferry servive across to Paihia if you can pull yourself away from the charm of Russell.The gift shop at Pompallier house is the best in terms of selection and price.This hotel is an experience in itself and would a great place to take overseas visitors. We absolutely loved our stay here!

I really like the waterfront position of this fantastic historic Hotel, easy parking on site and then you are able to walk around the waterfront. Very good restaurant , with views to the water and lots to see and do close by. I would of liked to of stayed longer.

Checking in was very unclear. Suggest better signage. GPS took us to the ocean side of the building where there was no parking. A man on the esplanade told us to go to the other side of the building and find street parking. Suggest instructions be sent with the confirmation and a few well placed signs to give the newcomer a better welcoming experience.

My brother and I are in our mid-eighties and reasonably active. We had no problem, but we felt that there weren't sufficient 'handholds' to help elderly people feel secure getting into and out of bath / shower - especially since a large proportion of your guests are getting on a bit! Otherwise a great experience!
