We really liked out stay at La Diosa del Sol. Our fishing guide said it perfectly. The West side is for tourists and the East side is for travelers. It’s not that they are that far apart, it was a little over an hour to get to the West Bay, but just much more laid back and relaxing. Not the crowds the West End has, especially on Cruise days. That being said, here is what we liked and didn’t like during our stay. Note, we were a group of 7 adults, my wife and I, our 3 kids and 2 significant others.
The house and pool are phenomenal. Some said in an earlier review that just know that the house is a bunch of rooms and to get from room to room there are outdoor hallways. Everything is covered, just picture a normal house, but you take out the outside walls that would connect the rooms. Not a bad thing, we really liked it. It made it feel more tropical and unique. The kitchen is amazing and spacious.
The view are incredible. Beautiful sunsets every night.
You must have Rosa cook for you. Truly one of the highlights of the trip. She shops, cooks and cleans up. And there are plenty of leftovers, so plan the dinner early in trip.
Location was perfect for us. Everything we wanted to do was nor more than 30 minutes, except when we went to West Bay. A fifteen minute drive to fish with Captain Buck. Grocery store 25 minutes away. Restaurants close. Turquoise Bay beach 15 minutes. Punta Gorda maybe 10 minutes.
Now, one of the surprises for us were the dogs. It did say in the contract that there were dogs on the property but were not allowed in the house area. However, we constantly had to tell them to go. We love dogs, (have 2) but on vacation we really were not expecting to deal with pets.
The beach is not really close or really a beach. You have to walk down the driveway and then down the dirt road for about 100 feet to a gate that is open. There are steep stairs down the water. Anyone could walk down there (though there are not a lot of people around). A lot of trash behind the boathouse. There really is not a place to hang out down there (plus you would have to bring down anything to sit on). Mostly shady with all the trees and seaweed/kelp for the first 30 feet or so out in the water. The dock is really nice, and you can sit out there. But really disappointed that we were not able to hang out down there.
Overall, we really liked La Diosa del Sol. Doing 4 stars primarily because of the beach and dogs. Everything else was exceptional.
