We booked this hotel through Expedia and arrived about an hour later. The room originally assigned had the same layout as the photos but looked far worse in person. The condition of the hotel overall was poor and there was a strong sewage odor throughout the building that seemed to be covered with air freshener.
I asked if a room on a higher floor was available. The hotel moved us, but the new room was much smaller and smelled of sewage even more strongly. When we asked to return to the original room, the front desk said it would now require a $70 additional charge to go back to the room we had been assigned just minutes earlier. We had only viewed the other room briefly.
Because neither room was acceptable (and the cost of two nights with the fraudulent upcharge would have equated to $430), we asked to cancel and leave. The hotel agreed but said we needed to request the refund through Expedia. I contacted Expedia immediately through chat and was told they would email me after speaking with the hotel. I never received a follow-up and no refund was issued.
I have yet to be refunded the $360 for this reservation that we never used - after being in the hotel for just 20 minutes.
