We loved our 10 day stay at Villa Myrtia. It's conveniently situated in the heart of the Atsipopoulo village therefore close to a selection of supermarkets, cafe's, a bar and a few good restaurants, yet set off the road and therefore concealed from any village noise or activities.
The villa is of traditional stone construction but with all modern facilities to ensure it's comfort, both inside and out.
The pool area is lovely (we were staying in mid/late September therefore opted for pool heating, which was good for us but perhaps unnecessary in peak summer or should you not mind a bit of chill to the water).
The village is very close to the larger town of Rethymno where you'll find quaint streets and plenty of bars/eateries.
Atsipopoulo is only just over an hour's drive from either Chania or Heraklion airports (and both cities are worth a visit!). Also, near Heraklion, is the famous ancient Knossos which we enjoyed visiting. We also had a day crossing the mountains for a visit to the south of the island, which is also recommended.
Crete, as with many other Greek Islands, has it's fair share of stray cats but we loved having our 'very own' cat + 2 young kittens who were regular visitors to the villa and kept us entertained (in return for us keeping them nourished no doubt!).
Since our initial booking, communication with George was always prompt and polite.
We would love the opportunity to return to this lovely villa sometime in the future.
Thank you so much!
