We stayed in a family apartment at La Casona de Ronda. This is an annex to the main hotel. The location is excellent and the condition of the units were impeccable.
My main complaint is service related. Prior to the trip, I had made specific inquiries to the hotel about the stairs in the hotel as I had an elderly mother in her late 70’s. I also knew that Quito was at a very high altitude @9300 feet. I was concerned about climbing stairs and putting her at risk. In my email reply from the hotel, I was told that it was 8-12 steps up to the unit. This wasn’t perfect but doable. Upon Arrival at midnight ( after a very
long day of traveling) however we found the unit was 3 flights up with more stairs in the duplex. We were told by the manager that there were no other two bedrooms. After we stayed for two nights, I discovered that the whole building was empty except for our family and the other side of the annex had an elevator! Seriously? I told the manager Aaron( who was very nice) but he just shook his head and said the other units were only 1 bedrooms and two bedroom was a luxury suite. We had paid for a 2 bedroom luxury suite so even if an upgrade was needed, it was possible. Alternatively, we could have had two 1 bedroom units too. But, nothing was suggested. This is the reason for downgrading my review. I don’t usually do this but this was an important safety issue. As a manager, he had the discretion and knowledge about capacity and should have used it.
