THE NEIGHBORHOOD

La Carolina is central, well connected, and known for its dining, shopping, and outdoor life.

Parque La Carolina, Quito's most iconic urban park, is a 6 to 10 minute walk away, and is ideal for morning runs, weekend cycling, or unwinding after a day of work or sightseeing.

For coffee, Coffee Factory sits at the southwest corner of the park, serving Ecuadorian specialty coffee and homemade pastries. For lunch, De La Llama offers contemporary Ecuadorian cooking with fresh local ingredients at reasonable prices.

Avenida Republica de El Salvador and Avenida de los Shyris, both minutes away, are lined with international restaurants, wine bars, Japanese and Italian kitchens, and rooftop terraces.

Supermaxi and other major supermarkets are a short walk or taxi ride away. Quicentro Shopping, with more than 200 stores, a food court and a supermarket, is minutes away by taxi, as is El Jardin Mall.


GETTING AROUND

The UNESCO-listed Historic Center of Quito, one of the best-preserved colonial old towns in Latin America, is approximately 15-20 minutes away by taxi depending on traffic.

Mariscal Sucre International Airport is around 43 km away via the Ruta Viva highway. Allow 45 to 60 minutes in moderate traffic, and more at peak hours. We recommend leaving extra margin for departing flights.

Ride-hailing apps including Uber, DiDi and inDrive operate throughout La Carolina at any hour and are reliable and affordable. Street taxis are also readily available.

WHEN TO VISIT

June through September is Quito's dry season, with sunny days, mild temperatures, and minimal rainfall. At 2,850 meters above sea level, the climate stays cool year-round, which is why Quito is known as the City of Eternal Spring.

The altitude can take a day to adjust to. Take your first day gently and drink plenty of water.
