This was a central point for all of our exploring for a week. Understand that it takes an hour to drive almost anywhere on the island so we chose this spot for its location (somewhat central with a beach and private) and access to many different places. Close to Kensington for groceries, gas, liquor and an amazing bakery. 5min around the corner is the best fresh seafood retail store. Everything you need for a feast.
The house is equipped with everything you need and there were ice cubes ready in the freezer for us! The multitude of windows and sliders allowed the beautiful breezes to blow through to cool off the house (in addition to very welcome fans). The upstairs turret was a perfect spot for us to enjoy the sunset, sit in the breeze and enjoy a nightcap. The wrap around deck allowed for sun or shade, wind or no wind, all comfortable reading spots.
We packed a bin full of staples for our meals but we were grateful to find filters for the coffee maker, paper towels and tin foil (all of which we forgot).
We were witness to a hatching and swarming of midge flies while we were there giving the shore birds a huge feast! At night there are tons of little stabby mosquitoes. They'll get you if outside but if they find their way into the house they usually try to get out. Not like the mozzies we're used to in Ontario that hound you all night.
The beach is fun! You can walk for quite a while at low tide up or down the shore. There were lots of shore birds to watch. We had a bald eagle fly through, a blue heron visit us on the deck (several liked picking on the shore), and a Northern harrier that stayed around for several days hunting and playing in the wind.
No wifi? No problem. Who needs it on vacation? We had an exceptional time and we were grateful for the comfortable and private space.
