Great views, dock was nice. Downsides were steep hill down to deck (so my wife could not make it down to enjoy it) and the bed mattress was so uncomfortable for us that we left a day early. The latter is not the host's fault, if you like very firm mattresses, it was a good one. Thought having to bring our own sheets and towels was a bit cheap though (we don't even have a queen, so we had to buy new sheets just for the trip). The pictures were also a bit misleading. The guest house (the rental) is squeezed in between the neighbor's house and the owner's house - so not a secluded cabin. Terrific views though and the dock is wonderful if you can safely get down to it.

We had a really nice time here for our anniversary. It is true waterfront property with a proper set-up. It's own peer, a small sandy beach, a couple 1-man kayaks, a 2-seated paddle boat, chairs, a firepit, and plenty of firewood. Recommend1

Pleasing driftwood displays, cute and practical cottage & TV/rec room (crabshack). Super river view! Enjoyed the kayak experience though the descent to the water was doable for me but more than my wife’s bum knee could take. She was happy at the patio overlook & crabshack. We enjoyed the weekend getaway 9/5-9/7 and want to return, especially if can catch a pleasant snowfall.

Beautiful scenery

Beautiful river views with eagles

Absolutely loved our stay here. It's a cozy bungalow right on the river. We enjoyed watching the water flow by while eagles soared overhead. We took the peddle boat for a short excursion to see more of the river. We enjoyed dinner at a couple restaurants in Port Royal and made short day trips to Colonial Beach and Tappahannock. As stated in the description, there's no stove and you need to bring your own towels/linens. I'd encourage guests to think of this a little like "glamping," and you'll have a great time.

Nice little cottage by the river

The cottage was cute and well appointed. The Crab Shack was an added plus. The only thing we did not like was the security cameras. While I understand the need for security, the cameras were pointed at areas where one would hang out, giving the impression that we were being watched even if we weren’t.

We had a wonderful stay!

We sought a relaxing getaway and found ourselves in an extremely picturesque environment. While the weather cooperated beautifully for us the entire stay, the ease of working with the host and their gracious gifts of hospitality and privacy rounded out a very special experience. The cottage is self-contained and small but intimate and perfect for a twosome. I can highly recommend this property and these hosts!

Great experience will be back next year

Had a great time . Area is so peaceful. If you like quiet areas an nature this is for you . Tons of different birds to watch very quiet river not many boats got to enjoy watching fish jumping out of the river all day . Home was clean and everything was in great shape ,the crab shack is a bonus area . You won’t regret your visit to this.place .
