Definitely appreciated such a kind and accommodating host! We had 10 adults and 8 littles who loved the pool and family volleyball. Dinner was easily prepared with everything we needed from pots and pans to utensils and stocked cups and plates and glassware. Everyone was comfortable with the sleeping arrangements and there were plenty of extra bedding and clean fluffy pillows although we brought our own and did not need them. We had to do a quite a bit of cleaning, sweeping and wipe downs on both levels before the guest arrived but had everything we needed to do so. The beach was a very short stroll and quiet. The entire family loved everything our family stay! Thank you and will rent again.

The upstairs and pool area were fantastic, which made the rest of the experience very disappointing. The downstairs was unacceptable — there was visible mold and roaches, making it unlivable. Because of this, half of our group had to book a hotel room.We contacted the owner about these issues. He later stated that he did receive the message the day before, but there was no response at the time and no offer of compensation.The following day, we also had no hot water. We were told someone would arrive to fix it by 5 PM, but we were in town for a wedding and all 13 of us needed to shower and be ready by 4 PM.Due to the condition of the property, lack of timely communication, and no compensation offered, this stay did not meet expectations.

My family and I stayed August 2025. The house upstairs was wonderful. There were plenty of pots and pans and a coffee pot. The place was lovely. There were chairs and items to use for the beach downstairs under the covered area. The downstairs did have a bug spray smell when we got there and it finally did go away. I believe the downstairs does need another humidifier in the other room as well but my older kids/family did enjoy it. The Pool area was the BEST. We utilized it every day. When we weren't at the beach we were in the pool. You just walked out the gate and went right and straight on the path to the beach. It was great. I loved sitting out on the deck in the morning with my coffee and taking it all in. It was a Wonderful trip. Stephanie was the BEST host. She got back to me every time I had a question. Couldn't have asked for a Better Place to Stay.

Highly recommend booking a stay at this beautiful home! It was perfect for our family, 6 adults ages 19-42, children ages 17, 7 and 2 toddlers under age 2. The pack-n-play and high chair were of great help with the littles. There was plenty of space for everyone to have their privacy. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed. There were also plenty of beach towels for all of us. The washer and dryer worked great throughout the week which was very nice as a couple of us flew into Florida and packed light. There were many pool/beach toys for the kids. The adults enjoyed the Cornhole boards, pool volleyball and pool basketball as well as all the outdoor seatings areas. The beach is only a very short walk from house, was clean and not crowded, which was very nice. We made a stop at a thrift store on our way in and found some beach chairs, a cooler and an umbrella in excellent condition. I just can’t say enough about how much we enjoyed our stay at the Gumbo Bungalow. Stephany was very responsive and easy to communicate with. I can only hope we have the opportunity to return for another stay!

The location and communication with the owner was excellent. The amenities for the beach, pool,and baby was great. It was enough for 3 babies. The downside was the disrepair of some of the things on the property. Broken steps, broken faucets, doors missing, back door on main level and back door on bottom level is not able to shut completely without a lot of force, centipedes in the basement bedrooms (they did send someone to spray while we were here)along with a mildew smell. The basement bedrooms are more like a Sleepaway camp than nice bedrooms. A lot of lightbulbs like 10 were not working. They did quickly send out a plumber to fix the faucet issue and drop off lightbulbs, but there was also shower doors that weren’t able to open or shut, drawer fronts missing etc. anda smelly couch cushion. The owner was so great though that I’m sure that had she been aware of these issues prior she would have repaired them. Overall, we absolutely loved the location and it felt like a private beach with quick easy access. We didn’t have to hunt around to find a good opening spot to get to the beach. The kitchen easily was set up to feed our large family We just wished for the price that a few more things had been attended to.

Housekeeping could improve but not terrible needs maintenance repairs on small items but nothing that hindered our stay. There’s not much to do in the area so if you are looking for activities this area doesn’t offer much

Gumbo House Review July 2025

The house has a great location and a decent pool. The house had not been cleaned properly when we arrived. In general the house is rundown. The area outside under the decking was dirty as well. There were a lot of bugs. The owner did call in an exterminator which did help. The owner did call in repairment to fix a plumbing leak and the HVAC failure. I would never rent this place again.

We booked this property for a family vacation for 11 people. We had an amazing time and we always make the best of anywhere we go no matter what happens and hardly complain about anything. The backyard is a literal Oasis and is the best part of this whole house, the pool is a dream. Now on to the inside of the house, the furniture is majorly outdated upstairs and downstairs. The couches smell very bad, when I say bad I mean they smell like pee and moldy, and the beds squeak a lot and you can tell everything is VERY used, yes this is a rental I understand they are used a lot but these are ALOT. The next biggest issue is when we got there we was hit in the face with the smell of Raid bug killer. We figured okay maybe they had an ant issue of something they took care of, we later learned that was not the case. They have a major bug issue, more specifically centipedes, worms, and the giant wood beetles that look like roaches. The biggest issue of all in this whole house is the mold. You can see the mold growing in places in the down stairs bathroom and it’s not just a little.Once the raid smell cleared out some all you smelled after was a moldy mildew smell. Like I said previously, our group can work with anything and made the house work the best way we could to our standards. I hope this helps someone else because the previous ratings are very misleading.

The kids loved the pool, once I got it cooled down. It’s directly in the sun and has to have some kind of shade sail and fountains to cool it down. Very inexpensive to to install, This allowed us to enjoy the big pool with all of the kids. Great location, right on the sidewalk to the beach and all of our family members, that we’re staying at the fancy houses on the beach front. We loved the vibe. Needs a through deep cleaning, not a deal breaker. Great memories were made.

The house worked well for our family. Eight adults and four kids. The pool design is fantastic. Easy access to the beach. The beach is great! The downstairs rooms are not as nice as the upstairs rooms, but hey when you’re accommodating a lot of people and kids, it’s fine. Appreciated greatly the pool toys and beach toys and chairs as we arrived by airplane. Towels provided are great. Beds are good.

Listed as 5 br. Nope! Ur charged full price but the downstairs is bug infested damp no lights unsafe (doors not sturdy) unfinished GARAGE with yard sale beds. The bunk was so shaky the 4yo was scared it would collapse. No access to the house without going outside. Location excellent. Nice pool but heated by sun only. No reply from host except charging the card. Beware

Best Christmas Ever

We loved our stay at the Gumbo Bungalow!Super easy to check in, lots of great things to do in the area.So close to the beach and plenty of amenities to make our stay comfortable. Even included everything we needed for our 1 year old grandson.The pool was fabulous, our grandchildren and young adults alike swam every day.

Graduation Weekend

We had a great family weekend for UWF graduation. The pool was a highlight for the kiddos and very nicely heated to allow for cold weather swimming! Downstairs did need some airing out due to misty smell but did not affect the trip or ability to sleep. I would definitely stay again!

Perfection!

We are so excited about our stay at the Gumbo Bungalow - it was everything we hoped it would be and then some! Location is perfect. Pool was lovely and warm. Kitchen was very well appointed with quality pots and pans and equipment. The towels were thick and Lucious. Beach towels were plentiful and thick Outdoor furniture was awesome. Obvious that the place is being cared for. Stephany was quick to respond to my messages. Washer and dryer handled everything from tiny loads to extra large loads of beach towels. Highly recommend staying here - perfect for the teenagers we had with us to have some space to call their own yet be upstairs for breakfast lunch and dinner together. Bonus! Super Delta Flyover directly over our pool on Wednesday! It was a wonderful week of family fun. Thank you!

Start with the good- great location, super quiet! Great communication with owner! The pool was great and plenty of outdoor seating for a large group. Property needs some serious TLC. Steps out to beach walk are falling apart and are a serious trip hazard for kids/ older adults. The wood is actually coming off the steps. Tried to use the pans to cook but everything just burns to the bottom and took forever to clean. The kids rooms have no access to the main living without going outside. Bath tub in one of the bathrooms was SO LOUD we thought we would break through the floor. Two of the beds (one king and another queen) squeak so loud whenever you turn over, it woke everyone in the bed up. Ok property if your main thing is pool/outdoor seating! Will say again, the owner had great communication. Just need to put a little time and updates in the house and it would be great!
