What to say? Fantastic! Amazing! A one of a kind experience?“Casa Ute” is all these things! We saw all kinds of wildlife and beautiful birds within the first 45 minutes of showing up. We could’ve spent our entire two weeks in Costa Rica at this place and would not have gotten tired of it!

We spent a fantastic 8 days at Casa Ute! The house is situated on a hill, overlooking a pond that is part of Chachagua Rain Forest Hotel, and next to the horse stable. The porch was the perfect place for bird and animal watching. We logged 17 different bird species, and three mammals during our stay. Bring binoculars or a scope. Kitchen is newly renovated. We used the stove top and oven to cook, and they worked fine. Plenty of counter space, and we arrived to a fruit and veggie basket that we took advantage of. A/C in the master bedroom worked well, and helped tamper down the humidity. Bathroom shower is unique in a good way, and pressure and temps were good. The resort staff were terrific in helping us plan excursions, both on and off the property. We recommend the night hike with Roy, bird hike with Rueben and horseback riding on site. We will definitely return, thank you, Ute, for sharing your wonderful home with us.

What a surprise find! Unbelievable surprise to find out where we were staying. It wasn’t overly easy to figure out where we were staying. Probably WhatsApp is the more universal way to communicate. It can be rather challenging to find where you’re staying. We learned pretty quickly just to let the resort staff know we are staying at Ute House and they knew exactly how to help us! Lovely private spot to have in the rainforest. So wonderful to share amenities and hiking paths with the resort. A very special find with everything we needed. Highly recommend!

Ute’s beautiful home is perfectly situated in a secluded area , where you feel like you are all by yourself overlooking serene setting of mountains, tropical jungle, sculptured yard with beautiful flowers and numerous birds. Our morning coffee was a pure delight as we sat for hours enjoying the ambience. A bird lovers paradise! From Ute’s location it was a very easy drive to the local town of Chauchagua for groceries or restauranting and a beautiful drive to anywhere and anything you want to see in the La Fortuna area! Everything that you want to see and do is easily accessible from this tranquil home. Ute and her long time housekeepers were very attentive and helpful with any of our inquiries. Definite recommend this location . I hope to be fortunate enough to stay again sometime!

This is a vey unique place; we had a blast! The house is located at the edge of a rain forest and consequently there is lots of wildlife! We saw all sort of tropical birds right at the porch (lovely porch!!!) hummingbirds, toucan and other very colorful birds. We heard howling monkeys in the mornings. I am sure we were surrounded by slots; we have not seen any. The house had everything we needed; the kitchen was fully equipped. We were a family of five and cooked breakfasts, and dinners and some lunches too. Having a family meal on the porch was amazing, very calm, and refreshing! The rooms had separate ACs. The beds were very comfortable; we slept really good. We spent a lot of time in the hammocks just watching the rainforest, or just listening to the beautiful sounds! There is a stable with horses next to the house and it was very unique experience to see the horses in the morning in sparkling sunshine (and those horses were very quiet). The house is sort of located on the edge of a hotel complex and because of this we had access to the hotel's pools and slides and hot springs and all sort of tours (coffee plantation, day and night animal watch tours and probably a lot more too...). We felt that we had everything we needed as activities right on spot! There were plenty of hiking trails leading to a waterfall and a giant(!!) tree. The tree is clearly visible from the porch; It is just magnificent! The hotel staff were always super nice and very welcoming. 100% recommend it!

We thoroughly enjoyed the friendly and peaceful atmosphere at Chachagua. The house, “la casa Ute”, was delightful, it was well equipped and in a beautiful setting from where we could watch and listen to the birds and other critters for hours from the deck. Even toucans came to visit!The staff at the resort were very friendly and welcoming, letting us use the pools and facilities as if we were guests. We did book a couple of tours through them.

This is our second visit to this rental. Hosts and caretakers very responsive. Our stay was excellent! If nature, privacy and peace is what you are looking for, look no further. Short drive to all conveniences and activities. King bed very comfortable. We enjoyed our morning coffee while observing animals, forestry and bird watching. The resort staff was always welcoming and helpful. I had a massage therapist set up right on the covered porch of house. Resort amenities and the mountain home make this a win/win for all. We are a family of four with a nine and six-year-old and had the absolute best time at Ute’s house! The caretakers were extremely responsive and helpful anytime we needed them. The location is absolute perfection and perched a top of the hill with rainforest views. The sound of birds was magical each morning! They graciously left some fresh fruits and vegetables along with coffee, which was an absolute delight after a long travel day! The resort next-door was gracious enough to let us dine at the restaurant a couple times and use the hot springs which were beautiful. The hiking trails were another added bonus along with being able to walk around the resort grounds, where we saw lots of wildlife. Will absolutely be returning!

Great place to stay

We stayed in the house for 5 days and it was wonderful. The check in is a little difficult with the caretaker’s house and the house itself not very easy to locate with Waze or google. You’ll get close, but good luck. It would be helpful to update the instructions. Anyway, once you overcome that small feat, the house is wonderful. Well stocked for cooking and comfortable lounging . Having the resort next door is amazing! Great food and bar and hot tubs are 2 minutes away. Then you get to retreat to your very private house. It’s really a great set up. La fortuna activities are about a 20 minute drive. .Very easy. Really great home base for a la fortuna vacation.

Pros and cons

Pros: balcony, hamacs, birds and view were spectacular. Easy drive to all the sites near La Fortuna, falls, Arenal, hot springs. Having the hotel close by was nice as we enjoyed a couple of meals at their restaurant. We also received free access to their facility so were able to spend time at the hot and cold pools, and enjoy all the walking trails. The beds were clean and comfortable. Chachagua village is small but has everything you need, groceries, butcher, bakery, pharmacy. Cons: the kitchen and bathroom are in dire need of renovations and the kitchen cabinets were not clean. Was not pleasant to cook a meal which was challenging as the location is quite isolated and there is not much around. Place was quite challenging to find and once you pick up your keys, a gps location would have been quite helpful instead of the long winded and confusing directions. There is a new house being built next door which will impede on the privacy to this house unfortunately. We had a great week but unless a small upgrade to kitchen and bathroom, would not return.

Step away from the world

Hidden away off a quiet roadway, tucked behind a small hotel is this amazing property. Out the back yard is and endless stretch of rainforest. Cows and horses graze out the front yard.My wife and I spent most of each day on the front deck, accompanied by dozens of birds. She migrated between hammocks based on the position of the sun while I sat at the table. We ultimately stayed one more day that we had scheduled.It is a full house, with everything you need, if you buy enough groceries. The access road is good quality and a 4x4 is not needed. Allocate some extra time to arrive the first time; it is truly tucked away.

jungle retreat

Not a good location, if you are taking tours in La Fortuna. It cost us 80. per trip to go to La Fortuna! We spent an extra hour to find the resort location and the separate location for the keys!! No groceries close to buy food, however there is a great hotel down a dirt road and we had great food there. The view from the deck was lovely, the decor has a 1960s vibe.

7 night stay, wonderful property, great location.

This stay would have gotten a 5 star rating if not for 2 issues, which were not the fault of the property owners, but nonetheless still affected our stay. First let me start off by saying we thoroughly enjoyed or stay. The views were amazing, we loved the property and layout of the house. The 2 issues we had were having no water on 3 mornings while we were there. There were issues with the town water supply. The second issue was noise during the day from a new house being constructed close by, and construction at the Chachagua resort and hotsprings. Again absolutely not the fault of the property owners, but it did interfere with an otherwise idyllic location.

Un paradis tropical

Il y avait du bruit à notre arrivée et le jour de notre départ, en raison de travaux à proximité, mais rien durant le week-end. Sinon, nous avons eu l’impression de séjourner au paradis: les oiseaux de toutes les couleurs, les sons de la jungle, l’accès aux magnifiques piscines de l’hôtel juste à coté: un vrai bonheur. Nous aurions aimé rester encore!

Remote and rustic

The property met our basic needs. The remoteness was good, except a new house is being built across the road and they can look into the huge open window in the shower. The property is rustic and could use some updating - including adding a convection oven or microwave. Be sure to bring all your supplies - salt, pepper, spices, etc. - the first time. It’s a little drive to the nearest store. Having access to the adjoining resort was priceless.

Rainforest Relaxation

We enjoyed the property greatly and I have developed core memories of the views off the porch and in the shower. We did run into an issue of storms knocking out the water (the whole town was out not just us) but the caregivers brought us water to use and that made a difference and it wasn’t out long.
