We are a family of four with a nine and six-year-old and had the absolute best time at Ute’s house! The caretakers were extremely responsive and helpful anytime we needed them. The location is absolute perfection and perched a top of the hill with rainforest views. The sound of birds was magical each morning! They graciously left some fresh fruits and vegetables along with coffee, which was an absolute delight after a long travel day! The resort next-door was gracious enough to let us dine at the restaurant a couple times and use the hot springs which were beautiful. The hiking trails were another added bonus along with being able to walk around the resort grounds, where we saw lots of wildlife. Will absolutely be returning!

Ute’s place is absolutely spectacular. The beauty of the landscape is only matched by the bursary in the people there. Would recommend it to anyone. The travel to get there is worth it!

Great place to stay

We stayed in the house for 5 days and it was wonderful. The check in is a little difficult with the caretaker’s house and the house itself not very easy to locate with Waze or google. You’ll get close, but good luck. It would be helpful to update the instructions. Anyway, once you overcome that small feat, the house is wonderful. Well stocked for cooking and comfortable lounging . Having the resort next door is amazing! Great food and bar and hot tubs are 2 minutes away. Then you get to retreat to your very private house. It’s really a great set up. La fortuna activities are about a 20 minute drive. .Very easy. Really great home base for a la fortuna vacation.

Pros and cons

Pros: balcony, hamacs, birds and view were spectacular. Easy drive to all the sites near La Fortuna, falls, Arenal, hot springs. Having the hotel close by was nice as we enjoyed a couple of meals at their restaurant. We also received free access to their facility so were able to spend time at the hot and cold pools, and enjoy all the walking trails. The beds were clean and comfortable. Chachagua village is small but has everything you need, groceries, butcher, bakery, pharmacy. Cons: the kitchen and bathroom are in dire need of renovations and the kitchen cabinets were not clean. Was not pleasant to cook a meal which was challenging as the location is quite isolated and there is not much around. Place was quite challenging to find and once you pick up your keys, a gps location would have been quite helpful instead of the long winded and confusing directions. There is a new house being built next door which will impede on the privacy to this house unfortunately. We had a great week but unless a small upgrade to kitchen and bathroom, would not return.

Step away from the world

Hidden away off a quiet roadway, tucked behind a small hotel is this amazing property. Out the back yard is and endless stretch of rainforest. Cows and horses graze out the front yard.My wife and I spent most of each day on the front deck, accompanied by dozens of birds. She migrated between hammocks based on the position of the sun while I sat at the table. We ultimately stayed one more day that we had scheduled.It is a full house, with everything you need, if you buy enough groceries. The access road is good quality and a 4x4 is not needed. Allocate some extra time to arrive the first time; it is truly tucked away.

jungle retreat

Not a good location, if you are taking tours in La Fortuna. It cost us 80. per trip to go to La Fortuna! We spent an extra hour to find the resort location and the separate location for the keys!! No groceries close to buy food, however there is a great hotel down a dirt road and we had great food there. The view from the deck was lovely, the decor has a 1960s vibe.

7 night stay, wonderful property, great location.

This stay would have gotten a 5 star rating if not for 2 issues, which were not the fault of the property owners, but nonetheless still affected our stay. First let me start off by saying we thoroughly enjoyed or stay. The views were amazing, we loved the property and layout of the house. The 2 issues we had were having no water on 3 mornings while we were there. There were issues with the town water supply. The second issue was noise during the day from a new house being constructed close by, and construction at the Chachagua resort and hotsprings. Again absolutely not the fault of the property owners, but it did interfere with an otherwise idyllic location.

Un paradis tropical

Il y avait du bruit à notre arrivée et le jour de notre départ, en raison de travaux à proximité, mais rien durant le week-end. Sinon, nous avons eu l’impression de séjourner au paradis: les oiseaux de toutes les couleurs, les sons de la jungle, l’accès aux magnifiques piscines de l’hôtel juste à coté: un vrai bonheur. Nous aurions aimé rester encore!

Remote and rustic

The property met our basic needs. The remoteness was good, except a new house is being built across the road and they can look into the huge open window in the shower. The property is rustic and could use some updating - including adding a convection oven or microwave. Be sure to bring all your supplies - salt, pepper, spices, etc. - the first time. It’s a little drive to the nearest store. Having access to the adjoining resort was priceless.

Rainforest Relaxation

We enjoyed the property greatly and I have developed core memories of the views off the porch and in the shower. We did run into an issue of storms knocking out the water (the whole town was out not just us) but the caregivers brought us water to use and that made a difference and it wasn’t out long.

The area around was great. Some really good hikes, a short horseback trail ride and nearby hot springs. The property was beautiful.

Nice somewhat remote cabin (5min for main road / 25min from La Fortuna), immersed in nature with a nicely tended garden. Unfortunately we were not able to access the nearby hotel pool (they might have a new management). The house itself might need some repair but it did not affect our stay. We will miss our breakfasts on the terrace, looking at the birds flying over the garden and forest!

Amazing property

This was just what we wanted. Great price for a spot up in the rain forest with hardly anyone around. We spent all our time there on the patio enjoying the views and sounds of nature. Loved it

Birds nest

This stay was our second of three rentals for our 18 day tour of Costa Rica. We loved it! LaFortuna was just 25-30 minutes away which worked well for us. It was great to come back in the late afternoon and walk over to the resort for a nice dinner or enjoy the various pools! What a bonus to this great house. My husband loved feeding the birds in the morning. It was great having coffee with tucans, scarlet macaws and all the various birds. While here we toured the Arenal Volcano, LaFortuna Falls, whitewater rafting with Maquique & Don Gorge Coffee Tour. Great coffee tour but the best part is taking the trail through his back yard to a great waterfall! So be sure to wear your suit on this tour. We practically lived in our swimsuits ❤️🇨🇷

Jungle Casa

Great place up in the rainforest with daily birds coming to feed on the deck. Wifi was great, super to be able to use the amenities at the resort and hike the trails and surrounding area. Only negative was the check in, but once we were there, it was fantastic and met all of our needs.

What a find!

Private botanical garden and bird observatory! Just beautiful location, perfect place to return each day to from great day trips. We enjoyed the terrace in early mornings and late afternoons, you have access to the amenities in the adjacent resort, staff there was super friendly and helpful as well. The views, the sounds and the serenity of the place is simply priceless!
