Andre and Susan’s home was very nice! Thank you so much for sharing it with us!
I wanted to stay on this side of the Big Island this time (last time we stayed in Kona area) so we could see lava flow. It was very convenient to the lava flow area, Volcano National Park (~45 min away), the Kehena black sand beach (5 min drive, and just beautiful!) and Kapoho tidal pools (~25 min drive, also really cool!). We really liked the location, and that it felt “remote” but was still very convenient to where we wanted to go. We didn’t actually get to see the lava flow (the last car allowed in is at 8:30 pm) but the man at the gate said it wasn’t really flowing anyway, and it would have still been an 8-10 (?) mile hike from the parking area—so when I heard that, I was okay with that! :) I think Andre mentioned you could walk/bike from the lava fields down the “main road”, but we didn’t get to do that. The house was clean and well-stocked (we made breakfast every morning of our stay). Andre came and personally gave us the key and quick tour of the place, and outlined the nearby sites. There was no A/C, but the cross breezes and ceiling fans did keep the main floor and upper loft cool overall. For the warmer downstairs rooms, there were fans in each room, so that helped. I must have mis-read the number of bathrooms (I thought there were 2, but there are 1.5 which is what the property details showed when I looked again), but that being said, there were 7 of us, and there was plenty of hot water with good water pressure. :) This was our first time using VRBO, and thanks to Andre, it was a great experience! Mahalo!
