Mary Rose’s place is truly special. The land itself has a peaceful, grounded energy, and Mary Rose is a thoughtful and caring host who made us feel very welcome. The space is very clean and comfortable, with thoughtful touches throughout, and a wonderful selection of books about Hawaii. You’ll be hard pressed to find something Mary Rose hasn’t already thought of in this space. Washer and dryer are outside under cover and very convenient. The outdoor area is a beautiful way to spend your evening on the hammock, or one of the swings. Even an under cover table you can enjoy an afternoon rainstorm.The location is beautiful and feels deeply connected to the island. If you’re looking for a place to slow down, unplug, and experience Hawaii beyond the typical tourist stay, this is it.We headed home rested, relaxed and recharged. We will absolutely stay again!

When I stay in places like this it makes me wonder why anyone would ever want to stay in a hotel . Mary Rose has created a lovely piece of paradise for all who stay with her. The entire backyard is yours to relax in! I particularly enjoyed reading in the swing.The bed is very comfortable and having a washer and dryer available to use was huge for us as we were running out of clean clothes to wear after being on the island for 2 weeks. The pictures do not do this space justice- it is a very large comfortable space! We truly enjoyed our stay here and would highly recommend it to anyone looking to stay in this area!

We really enjoyed the stay, the place was well furnished and decorated tastefully. It also included many appliances and thoughtful additions that made it an easy place to stay.We had one issue with the key not working to lock/unlock the place - once our host was informed she was on it and had it handled immediately. Great response.

Best kept secret in Hawaii

First and foremost we LOVED our host. She had thought of EVERYTHING you could need while you are staying at her property. I hesitate to review, because I’m afraid she’ll get so popular that we won’t be able to book again. This gem is quiet, clean, private- it’s an oasis. I hope that we get to return soon!

Beautiful Little Cottage

We stayed for 1 week on our honeymoon. The host provided everything we could possibly need to make our stay perfect. Geckos were so entertaining to watch running all over and coquis lulled us to sleep at night. One thing to note: be sure to grab some bug spray, the skeeters are vicious out on the lanai! Overall quite happy with the experience!

Beautiful Pahoa

We loved our three weeks on the Big Island Hawaii. Marylove is a wonderful person and a lovely host. We scoured this side of the island and to us the only drawback was it’s distance. It just made for extra driving. Thank you Marylove!

Great little slice of paradise!

Clean, calm, well equipped with a great hostess! We prefer to be in nature than in the middle of an urban jungle! This is like an oasis in the middle of a tropical island! MaryLove has done a great job in decorating and equipping this little cottage! It's at the back of her house yet completely separate and private! The backyard is all yours and a joy to use with chairs, a swing, a hammock and a bbq! We stayed here for 1 month and had most of our meals there without missing anything in terms of equipment or utensils! One morning the drip coffee machine decided to quit on us. Fortunately there's also a french press, so we didn't miss our morning coffees! I let MaryLove know via text and by the time we came back in the afternoon there was a brand new coffee machine with a stack of coffee filters by the door! She really wants her guest to enjoy the experience and takes pride in her little slice of paradise! Yes you do need a car, but we didn't mind the drive to Pahoa or Hilo and the cottage is well worth the drive! We highly recommend it for short or longer stays! Thank you MaryLove and hope to see you and Devin sometime in the near future! Michel and Lucie xxoo

Peaceful and spacious

Location is great for getting away with a short walk to the ocean for sunrise/sunset views. There is a drive into town for grocery/gas etc. but a beautiful area to visit.

Awesome Stay in Tropical Paradise

We had an amazing time staying at Marylove's cottage. It was so peaceful relaxing in the hammock in the evening and you could see so many stars since its a bit far out of town. Everything we could have needed was provided including snorkel equipment and beach chairs. We will be back!!

An oasis in paradise

Even better than advertised, Marlove has created a wonderful space in a beautiful setting. We had to make a special effort to leave and explore the rest of the island. Has all the amenities of home and we enjoyed cooking in the full kitchen. There is no cell phone reception which maybe a concern to some. The wi-fi however is pretty robust. Marylove is very responsive to any requests or concerns. Definitely a 5 star property.

A Lovely Place

We enjoyed our stay very much. The cottage was so nice and the host added so many thoughtful extras. It was a cool experience to be off-grid. The gazebo was so nice to relax in at the end of the day and it’s always great to have access to a washer & dryer. We thoroughly enjoyed the coquis singing at night. I think the biggest advantage of the location is that we probably wouldn’t have driven the Red Road had we stayed elsewhere, and it was lined with amazing scenery!
