The good: The pictures are accurate. The property is very wooded and private. The view from the top deck is wonderful. The kitchen was well stocked with kitchenware and gadgets. The dock was an easy walk from the home.
The bad: There is no cell phone reception, and the internet connection isn’t that good. The property, and most of the areas around Kentucky Lake, is infested with ticks and should be treated. The lake water has the clarity of a glass of tea. There are a lot of geese, and you must navigate through the goose dropping minefield to get to the dock. During our stay, I let them know that the sink faucet broke and we would just use the other sink downstairs. They did not respond to my text.
What I wish I knew/realized before booking: After booking, you receive a contract to sign with additional rules not mentioned on the website. Before your stay, you will get an email with additional guidelines and limitations. Ask for all the rules and limitations associated with the property prior to booking. Limited entertainment options outside of the lake, Planetarium, and Buffalo/Elk exhibit. The spiral staircase is very tight/tricky to maneuver.
What I learned: VRBO are hit and miss. None of the reviews mention the poor cell reception or the tick problem. Never book a no-refund policy property until you review all the rules. VRBO’s are a gamble, are the reviews and pictures accurate? Are the owners control freaks? I’m sticking with national brands.
