We just got back from a week at MLR and it was amazing. Can’t beat the location- gorgeous Maine woods, a small lake and a huge home that feels welcoming and homey. The bedrooms are large and the beds and pillows are super comfy. We had a group of 15 and hot water wasn’t an issue.
The new property managers, Leah and Mack, were super helpful once we arrived, and did their best to fix what they could while we were there.
That said, I do think the house could benefit from a little TLC from the owners as well as some extra touches to take this house to a 5 star level.
The house has settled and doors from the great room out to the deck are now hard to open and had broken/missing handles.
Some bedrooms have windows without coverings, or have only two small curtain panels which aren’t sufficient, allowing lots of morning light in to wake up small children or those of us not used to 4:30 sunrises.
The kitchen lacks tableware for large groups, as well as some commonly used utensils, plastic ware and serving dishes.
Some of the patio furniture cushions were moldy and need replacing.
sounds system is overly complicated and when we were there, all of the speakers had been blown, making it unusable.
Some of the furniture is worn and torn (chairs, pool table, foot stool) and needs to be repaired or replaced.
There is a good assortment of lawn activities in the shed and fantastic array of life jackets. If you plan on kayaking (they have a double) their isn’t a functional paddle let alone two. There are 4 halves, but they don’t fit each other...
It would have been great if the hiking trails on the property were marked and a map provided.
We were able to find a chef , Amy at 2getherwecook, (no links permitted) that was easy to work with. We had them come one night to cook for us and they prepared a weeks worth of food.
Little things : only a single trash bag in the kitchen provided, but three trash cans. You need to bring your own.
Had a hard time getting the sauna hot enough. It has a timer that only allows it to be on for an hour; not sure it even gets to full temp at that point. Not a huge deal, but janky.
AC system is not adequate for the house. It really only works for the basement and the first level. Most of the bedrooms are on the second level so folks in the basement and first floor were cold while those of us on the second floor were quite hot.
Overall it’s a beautiful home and we’d come back.
