  • Waldron Lookout, accessible via a spur trail at 1.5 miles up the northern trail. Turtleback Mountain is a wilderness-preservation success story. Recently the target of a development effort on Orcas Island, a popular weekend destination for people from Seattle, it was saved from that fate largely by the efforts of one man and his organization, Tim Seifert, executive director of the San Juan Preservation Trust. Thanks to their work, the mountain is now a wilderness area, in perpetuity. As a bonus, a network of trails is now available to allow hikers and sight-seers a chance to explore the mountain. The trails are beautiful and serene and not nearly as crowded as those on the more popular Mount Constitution, which sits on the other side of the island. There are just a few open viewpoints, such as this one, but they do pack a punch. Beyond that, the forest scenery is just fantastic.

Had an amazing stay! The home and property is beautiful. The house was very clean and the beds were comfortable. We stayed in December and the house was a bit cold, we had the downstairs heater turned as high as it could go but there was a cold draft, however upstairs was very warm. Would definitely recommend staying here!

Peaceful location and spacious house.

I booked this house for my mother and father in law due to its location near our own house. The house was ideal for them and gave us some ability to easily get back-and-forth to our house while also providing ability for them to have their own peace and quiet. The grounds/gardens of this home are really great and it was an inspiration to what we'd like to do at our own home. Highly recommended, particularly if you'd like to be at a place on Orcas that is removed enough from all the activity at Eastsound but still close to the ferry landing.

Wonderful Stay!

We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful home in Grindstone Harbor. Our multi-generational family loved kayaking in the cove and watching the otters, herons, and bald eagles from the expansive deck. We had plenty of room for 9 people and enjoyed many activities on the island.

A Piece of Paradise

Our family loved our vacation! We spent untold hours in kayaks, puttering around the beach, and walking in the woods. The kitchen was well-equipped for family meals, and the back deck was my happy place for watching the resident blue heron and sea otters. Sherri was extremely responsive when a couple of minor issues arose.

Nice location, good bones. Could use some attention to details.

Nice location, good view, house in pretty good condition. Could use some attention to detail. Lack of blinds and shades in the guest house. No tv or monitor in guest house. Internet speed not very good. Blind broken in east bedroom upstairs in main house. Downstairs toilet not anchored to floor (toilet not the seat). This could is a safety problem. Bathroom light lacks diffuser. Hot tub was COLD. A major feature that was unusable. Lightbulbs missing or broken on main light in livingroom.

Peace and Tranquillity

The views are absolutely gorgeous. The home is beautifully updated except for the stained dirty carpet! Perhaps that’s in the future plans? The deck and outdoor space are perfect to relax and enjoy the scenery. Overall, it’s a lovely home in a gorgeous setting. FYI, the ice maker is not connected so pick up a bag of ice.

Stunning

We wanted to celebrate my parents 49th anniversary as a family and this home simply couldn't have been a better place to do it! The views are epic (truly... breathtaking!) with wildlife all around. By the end of the trip we had named the seals that came to visit and developed a bond with the otters that played in the bay. The peace and serenity of the space provided all of us with a wonderfully relaxing time together and everyone felt recharged by the experience. Highly recommend spending some time here if you can!

Beautiful Relaxing Home

We stayed in this home with 7 adults and two children, and had plenty of space. The family room was perfect for hanging out and doing puzzles, and we enjoyed using the grill and walking down to the bench overlooking the ocean. The house was very clean and had every utensil and dish you could need for cooking or baking. Sherri, the manager, was extremely responsive and helpful for the few glitches we encountered.

Loved Our Stay

We agreed with the previous reviews stating the pictures didn’t capture the full beauty of the place. We loved our stay, and the property had plenty of space for the group to gather together and have private time apart. Location near the ferry was nice and kitchen was well appointed. Grindstone

This is a magical property with spectacularly beautiful views over the cove. The house is constructed of rustic wood with a cozy window bench, and with floor to ceiling windows to maximize the view. The landscaping around the house is lovely, full of flowers blooming in a rainbow of colors. The house and cottage can accommodate many people comfortably, with a large communal area where everyone can gather or where different groups can do different activities. We had a great time at this very special property.

Quiet, well-appointed getaway

This property is spectacular. The setting is private and quiet, on a private cove. It has a wonderful deck with comfortable furniture. The main house is spacious but has a wonderful cozy cabin like feel due to all the natural wood paneling. The guesthouse was more modern and equally charming. We absolutely loved it.

A Dream

The pictures do not fully capture how stunning the property, view, and interior of this house really are. Absolutely gorgeous, gracious, generous - so spacious and yet cozy. We have no complaints at all - except that our kids insisted on using our bathroom because the view was so spectacular. Hehehe. Already dreaming about our next visit.

An absolute delight

We were forced to audible some vacation plans and decided to book a place on Orcas. We were so lucky that we chose grindestone harbor! The view is even better than it looks in the pictures! The house was terrific for our family and friends. We really enjoyed our winter stay walking the trails and wading in the water. I can only imagine how much the place is in summer. The property management team was super responsive and helpful. Highly recommend for families and friend groups alike!

Spectacular!

Our multigenerational family had a wonderful stay at grindstone harbor. The house was cozy and well suited to family. The guest house and main house ensured everyone slept comfortably and had some privacy, and the huge kitchen and deck were perfect for gathering and being together. We were lucky to have beautiful weather.
