Overall we really enjoyed our stay! On the whole the property was largely what I expected, but there were some surprises that ended up being okay, but had the potential to really damper our weekend.
Pros:
- beds were super comfy
- place was very clean
- nice large yard
- tall ceilings and airy living space
- not too far from town
Cons:
- the heating did not work properly. there were space heaters that helped heat a couple of rooms, but the wall unit that was supposed to be an AC + heat unit did not work at all. Because the house also doesn't get a lot of direct sunlight throughout the day and we were not there during a particularly warm week, the house was quite cold. There was a wood burning stove in the living room and thankfully, there was a TON of pre-cut firewood out in the yard that we could use, so we had to rely on that for heat. Luckily, I was with people who are familiar with how to operate wood fire stoves, but this is not a skill everyone has or is comfortable with or frankly wants to deal with on their vacation. Overall we are a group that does enjoy fires and had the skill set so it ended up being okay, but it did become a major focal point of the weekend as we were always having to tend to it, bring in wood, etc. We were also then approached by a neighbor who came knocking on the door to reprimand us for violating the current burn ban. We explained that it was our only heat source and called the fire dept who assured us that an indoor wood burning stove was permitted during the burn ban, but the neighbor was still quite disgruntled and it was a less than ideal experience... Overall we were not pleased that this was not communicated to us prior that wood-stove would be the primary heat source. I reached out during the trip and was told that the wall unit would work for heat, but we each (5 different adults) tried several times, over several days and "youtubed it" and everything and could not get it to work
- only room/area with a true water view was the upstairs suite, which was absolutely lovely, but then difficult for all guests to enjoy if the couple staying in that room wants privacy
- the photos definitely make this unit appear a little more polished. we noticed several unfinished areas of clearly a DIY home projects. Didn't bother us at all, but it's worth noting that is was another thing that wasn't quite as advertised
