My family was very excited that we found this rental to celebrate my mom’s 80th birthday. The pictures on VRBO look beautiful and the rental is tastefully decorated. It’s right on the water with easy access to the freeway, but we quickly discovered it was far from what we’d expected for the price we paid.
The counters were sticky, the dishes had crusted food on them, the glasses had smudges on them, the dishwasher smelled “eggy,” the wine fridge wasn’t working, all of the outdoor chair cushions were worn and stained, the grill was filthy, and there’s no where near enough cookware for a family of 12-14. When we turned in that first evening, a pair of shorts was discovered in one of the showers, and there was feces on the wall in another bathroom. It was also impossible to close the pocket door to that bathroom, so there was no privacy.
The following morning, as we went to make breakfast, the kitchen exhaust fan over the stove started smoking and blew. Then one of the shelves in the hall closet came crashing down when we tried to place something on it because it was missing the supporting clips underneath. I texted that morning about the feces, exhaust fan, shelf, and wine fridge, and the management company sent people over to handle the issues.
While we loved our family time, we requested to have the cleaning fee reimbursed, since we’d had to clean so much ourselves, but the company refused, saying they could only provide credit towards a future stay.
