Very small space for 2 people. Comfortably appointed, warm interior setting. For our purposes, SUPER location. The host was friendly enough though he asked to conduct a 5 min. access to the unit whilst we were “out”, ostensibly to inventory what he might need for “his next guests.” Since we were only on our 3rd night of a 6 night stay, this seemed rather odd to us. I let him access when we returned and I was there. (I suspect he could have easily entered with extra keys but we weren’t concerned. )Cleanliness could have been a bit more of a focus. Inside was pretty good, but honestly the enjoyment of the piece/deck space just before the entry would it have been greater had leaves, dirt…decks outside stuff…had been maintenances more. All reviews are subjective, as we all know. All I can say is I’ve thought a lot about what I’d write. THIS IS WHERE ALL THAT SETTLED. Best for us?: LOCATIONLeast for us?: SIZE

Great property, very comfortable, very clean,,Thoughtfully designed. Cool neighborhood! Wish I got to spend more time here. I was at a conference in downtown Oakland and decided to stay in the sanctuary because hotels were overbooked. Slightly hard/expensive to get an uber in the morning but that’s my fault for not planning ahead. Would recommend!

A nice, tucked-away, private cottage in the hills of Montclair. Essentially a studio, it meets all your functional needs, including a very comfortable bed. It is also nice to always have a parking spot right outside the unit. Ted is very accommodating and responsive to any requests. Definitely a place to return to for future visits.

Wonderful cozy private 1 room “cabin” with remarkable efficiency and extra amenities including a small but functional kitchenette. Very quiet neighborhood and comfortable bed. Nice trail walk nearby. Only negative was need to use Uber or Lyft to get essentially anywhere but easy excursion to nearby Berkeley. Truly felt like a “Sanctuary”

This place is magnificent if you seek beauty, serenity and lovely views. You do need to be able to drive twisty roads but the trip is worth it. My husband calls the Sanctuary a tree house and it certainly feels that way. Art works surround you and the bed sooooo comfortable. We will be back someday!

Perfect romantic oasis

This gem of a space was well organized and cozy. The decorating was thoughtful and pleasant. The fireplace was a lovely touch. It was the perfect spot to chill after a day of exploring San Francisco.

A serene and magical stay

This house is up a windy road in the hills, and as such is quiet and serene, although a quick trip down the hill gets you to a highway that will quickly whisk you away to Oakland, San Francisco or Walnut Creek. It's also within 10 minutes of gorgeous hiking among the redwoods. The space itself is beautiful and serene with artistic touches that make it stand out from other rentals. Highly recommended for when you want to recharge in a beautiful canyon setting!

Relaxing in the trees

Sweet place for 2 relaxing nights of needed rest. Special decorating touches appreciated. Sun and tree branches from every window. Quiet, easy stay. Many places to eat close by. Would return again.Must have transportation. Walking difficult to impossible due to narrow streets, no sidewalk and steep hills. We understood that from the description so weren’t surprised.
