We stayed at the cottage at 214 Dorcas Bay Road from July 16th to July 19th as a group of nine guests. While the location is scenic and peaceful, the actual condition of the cottage was far from what the listing photos and previous reviews portrayed.
Here are the issues we encountered:
There are two main washrooms, but one had no working lights, making it nearly unusable. With nine guests, we were left sharing a single main washroom and a small powder room.
Most electrical outlets in the bedrooms and living area were non-functional, forcing everyone to rely on just a couple of working outlets throughout the cottage.
The basement staircase was unstable and wobbly, posing a serious safety hazard — especially for children and seniors. Several of the steps appeared damaged.
When we arrived, we found water spilled across the basement hallway floor, and none of the outlets in the basement were working.
There was only one working flycatcher in the house — another one was broken. Worse, there was no proper insulation to prevent flies, mosquitoes, and bugs from entering, which became a constant issue during our stay.
We tried contacting the property manager multiple times, but our calls went straight to voicemail. We eventually reached them via email. Although we were advised to switch the breakers, the issues persisted.
These problems — especially the non-functioning washroom and widespread electrical failures — significantly impacted our comfort and experience. It’s disappointing that none of these issues were disclosed beforehand, and overall, the listing felt highly misleading.
We hope this review helps future renters make an informed decision. The location is beautiful, but unless these issues are properly addressed, we cannot recommend this property.
