This condo was not in a fit condition for rental. Within one hour of our arrival, I sent the owner VRBO messages with a list of six (6) issues that needed to be addressed. (1) The dish washer was full. I asked if the contents were clean or dirty. I never received an answer to this question. (2) There were no hand towels. It took four days to get hand towels. (3) Only one kitchen towel. We never got another one. (4) The toilet in the guest bathroom was running non-stop when we arrived. After we resolved that, it ran periodically. It took two days to get a handyman to address this. (5) The toilet in the master bath was running periodically. Same as item #4. (6) The extractor fan in the guest bath did not work. When the handyman came two days later, he said it was toast and would need to be replaced. They would have to order the part. This meant that for six days, one of us had to shower in a bathroom that felt like a sauna.
Two more items arose while we were there. (7) We went to the store and bought tissues and toilet paper. The toilet paper provided in the condo shredded/dissolved on contact. Think about that and get the visual. It's not pretty. (8) On morning #4, the front door lock failed. When we were leaving for the golf course at 6:30 AM, we could not lock the front door. Apparently, the owner uses a battery powered door lock and does not replace the battery until it fails. Well, it failed. We had to leave the condo with our stuff unsecured. It took a few hours to get the battery replaced. And it gets better. Apparently, the owner keeps a manual key outside the condo for such emergencies. Unfortunately, he neglected to tell us about this. So, we spent a day on the golf course worried sick about our stuff. Thanks very much.
And finally, one of the bath towels looked like it had been dragged through the dirt or covered in makeup. Apparently, the cleaner thought is was good enough.
The owner is remote. He does not appear to have a local property manager. The owner lacks any sense of urgency about fixing issues. He takes a long time to respond. All he has is a handyman and a cleaner, who are both busy with other things.
I sent the owner a total of two VRBO messages, nine direct text messages and two phone calls about these issues during our six day stay. These numbers should be zero.
This owner and this condo are not fit for any rental program.
VRBO needs to address this urgently.
