"De los 4 lugares que nos hospedamos en Japón este fue el de la habitación más grande, era un mini departamento con muchas comodidades, nos entregaban toallas limpia todos los dias (incluso tuvimos que pedir que no nos entregaran más jaja). "We had a fantastic time here. Our host greeted us upon arrival and asked if we would like to participate in an authentic tea ceremony. "It was our family’s first time staying at a machiya. It was an easy place to find upon arrival in Kyoto. The house was lovely. The tea ceremony at check-in along with the Japanese sweets were much appreciated. They were able to help us arrange for delivery of our luggage onwards to our next city. "We loved our stay at Gion Ryokan! The staff were so lovely, the bed pads were comfortable, and we enjoyed having access to a full kitchen. "Wonderful place to stay, we loved that the area was in a real neighborhood and not touristy. The only complaint is the main bedroom faces a an alley that has a motion activated light that shines bright on and off all night while you are trying to sleep. Dark shade would help this situation. "

On the other hand, if one is looking for living (mostly) like a Japanese family would, in a real Japanese neighborhood, then you are looking at the right place. That worked fine for our group, but I wouldn't recommend for older travelers or young kids if you want to use the subway a lot.
