  • With lovely beaches and two friendly village pubs nearby, this is a great base for exploring this exciting area ideal for all age groups.. All on the First Floor:

    Bathroom: Bath With Shower Over, Toilet. Gas central heating, gas, electricity, bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi included. . On road parking. No smoking.. Close to the many sandy beaches, coast and visitor attractions, Marley’s Retreat is set in the centre of the pretty little village of Holywell. With two friendly village pubs (one 50 yards) and beautiful walks from the doorstep down into the Dene and along the river which is seen from the rear windows of the apartment. This comfortable apartment is the perfect base for exploring and set only 3 miles to the fabulous sandy bay and sea at Seaton Sluice, a wonderful unspoilt beach ideal for those who like a little peace and quiet.

    Nearby Whitley Bay is home to the fabulous Spanish City, the iconic building which has been renovated to provide a lovely champagne bar and restaurants. Stroll along the wide promenade where you can walk right along the stretch of coast to Cullercoats and onto Tynemouth, all with fabulous places to eat and drink. Whitley Bay is wonderful for families of all ages, still retaining some old-fashioned seaside charm, whilst Tynemouth has some amazing restaurants and bars, a Sealife Centre, The ancient Abbey, hidden coves, and highly rated beaches perfect for surfing and rock pooling.

    Nearby, catch a bus or metro if you want to leave your car behind perhaps spend a day in Newcastle, a city of culture and entertainment where you will receive a warm Geordie welcome. Travel north for a day trip further into Northumberland and discover some of the castles and historic sites peppered along the coast. Inland, visit Hadrian’s Wall or the Northumberland National Park famed for its dark skies.

A good place to have as a base to explore the area.

A good place to have as a base to explore the area. Comfortable especially the double bed, and had everything you may need. It's not luxurious but very practical, good for the dog as long as they can get upstairs.The only down side is the proximity to the road although that was only busy at peak times. Very kind of the local pub to allow parking.It served us well while visiting family in Walls end.

Great amount of space, comfy king size bed, nice sized bath, full fridge freezer. Very good location for local walks. Would highly recommend and would happily stay there again

Great place thanku.

Great place thanku. So clean, comfortable and thoughtfully decorated throughout- thanku to MaxWe had great time with 3 visits to the hostelry next door who also provided parking ( which was v necessary) plus good beer and foodOverall super visit- only downside was lack of parking, proximity to road to enable dogs and luggage to be safely ensconced, and lack of any outdoor space However, deffo a wonderful experience- thanku

This lovely little holiday let , was in a great position for Whitley Bay and other places. Maxine was so accommodating and treated us with kindness! Would we return yes! 👏🏼 The local people were warm and welcoming.

Marley's retreat is a lovely snug apartment in a little village just outside Whitley Bay.

Marley's retreat is a lovely snug apartment in a little village just outside Whitley Bay. The apartment is well catered and very dog friendly which was brilliant for us as a family of 4 plus 2 dogs. The village has 2 really lovely pubs, with good food options and the roaring open fire in the Old Fat Ox was very appreciated in the freezing temperatures we had when visiting. Max who owns the apartment and runs the shop just a few doors down was lovely and accomodating and happy to help with any information needed. Plus the broonie and tiffin were incredible!!!

Excellent place. Spotless, clean and conforo

Warm and cozy upstairs flat. Spotlessly clean and the host had left use things for breakfast, which we weren’t expecting! The walk down Holywell Dene to Seaton Sluice is fantastic and the dog loved it!

We stayed at Marley’s Retreat because we had some business to do in Newcastle.

We stayed at Marley’s Retreat because we had some business to do in Newcastle. The cottage looks tiny from the outside, but once up the stairs we found a roomy but cosy front room and a luxurious master bedroom. The solemn wooden furniture in the big bedroom complimented the cottage/flat beautifully and is very classy as well as providing plenty of space for clothes. The bed is absolutely huge! I’m 5’10” and I touched neither the headboard nor footboard when I was sprawled out enjoying the space available to me. The kitchen, bathroom and second bedroom are somewhat ‘bijou’ but that didn’t stop us cooking, showering or making use of the second bedroom. The floors are not completely flat which I loved, as it was a nod to the age of the building and its historicity. Max had decorated the flat very tastefully, with Christmas mugs, mats (in the bathroom) and a delightful Nutcracker duvet set in the big bedroom, as well as a tree, lights and window stickers.All in all it was a lovely refuge and I’d like to buy the flat as is, let alone stay there again, which we certainly will if we’re ever up in Northumberland again!
