The innkeeper was very welcoming and the inn is both comfortable and low-key. The perfect spot to make your base for both walking to Newburyport’s many attractions or easy day trips in the area.

Such a peaceful atmosphere, charming. Attention to details and comfort of guests. Kim was welcoming and pleasant and made you feel right at home. Highly Recommend a stay here, you won't be disappointed.

The innkeeper Kim was as sweet as could be - very accommodating to our needs. Put out treats in the evening and a delicious breakfast in the morning. She is truly an asset to the inn! Our room was clean and very comfortable - we will definitely be back!

Almost Fantastic
The Compass Rose Inn checks most of the boxes. Location is excellent. Rooms are very clean. Inn keeper and staff are friendly, helpful, great people. Unfortunately, the suites are not well isolated from the sounds of the other guests. Foot traffic overhead and muted voices along with plumbing all contribute to a lack of privacy. Surprisingly this house is newer construction and was built for the purpose of a B&B. Perhaps the noise intrusion is part of the B&B experience and should be expected, so my expectations may be skewed. Unfortunately, I probably would not stay here again.

This is our go to place when we stay in Newburyport and have been here several times. The location is ideal and close to everything. Janet was amazing- super friendly and accommodating and a great cook:) looking forward to next time!

Janet, the hostess/innkeeper, was wonderful - efficient, welcoming, charming and delightful. The room was fine, although the room temperature was not able to be controlled by guests. The breakfasts were excellent. We would certainly return and would recommend the inn to friends. It is very conveniently located. But Janet was the best - we really appreciated her assistance and information.

The Innkeeper, Janet, was phenomenal! She was so attentive! Delicious meals and recommendations were provided with lots of attention to detail. The inn is in a perfect location — walking distance to shops and restaurants.

The Gem of Newburyport!
The Compass Rose did not disappoint! Each detail was thought out to perfection. The beautiful lobby, lovely rooms, most with working fireplaces (Duraflame included), great location and the nicest, smartest innkeeper I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting. We will absolutely be back to Newburyport solely to stay at this marvelous inn.

We loved The Compass Rosé’s historical period details. We also loved how accommodating and friendly the inn keeper, Janet was. Janet’s breakfasts were delicious. I would suggest providing a dark roast coffee option with possibly an organic half & half.

Beautiful inn in the center of town. We only stayed one night, but I look forward to a longer return trip in the near future. The suites are comfortable, spacious, and beautifully appointed.

The separate room gave us privacy and the steps provided us with some exercise. We missed breakfast the first morning unfortunately, but we were able to have a delicious breakfast the next morning.

Beautiful, peaceful, and well-appointed suite. Healthy and delicious breakfast, welcoming and friendly innkeeper. Tucked away just off the main street, easy walking to shopping, dining, and the waterfront. Easy drive to Plum Island and the nature preserve as well as several beaches. The perfect vacation.

This property was clean, comfortable, and close to everything. My only suggestion would be to add bottled water to guest rooms, but other than that, we would be happy to stay here again in the future.

There’s a property was perfect it was our first time staying at an inn or B&B and we are a little skeptical versus staying at a hotel but wow it really opened up her eyes to B&Bs and inns we wish we stayed another night our room was clean as can be Towel warmer in the bathroom make up mirror clean bathtub and shower you got chocolates free breakfast in the morning we got Kiesha fresh fruit they ask you for juice icemaker coffee hot chocolate I mean excellent

Our stay was nothing but superb. Gloria and Ken were super hosts, the INN itself was just gorgeous. Dont be concerned about the tight surroundings as you enter. Its the best
