The reason for my trip was to see the DaVinci exhibit at the Louvre. You get to tour what used to be the Kings palace (prior to Versailles), see priceless works of art in person, explore historic architecture and all for around $20 USD! A definite MUST see!
Get there early or you won't have a locker for your coats and will have to carry them.
As can be expected, it is unrivaled as a museum of art. It is impossible to see the whole museum in a day - plan ahead to know what you want to see or book for multiple days is you are a real art lover. Book tickets online ahead of time and you will be inside in about 10 minutes. Buy on site and wait an hour plus on a busy day if tickets are still available. Ensure your plan involves something other than the Mona Lisa. It is one of the greatest letdowns at the Louvre. It is small and the giant crowd around it makes it hard to appreciate. getting close enough to see it well takes a half hour or so.
The Louvre is a once in a life time experience. Wouldn't have missed it for the world.
