Peace at the Beach

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This place was awesome. It was everything I hoped it would be and more. Very clean and well maintained. The beach was great, Not very busy in the area because your away from the pier. My wife and kids had never been to Garden City and now can't wait for next year. My wife and I have been toying with the fact of when kids graduate moving to the ocean and out of the mountains. Well done deal. We looked at houses before we left. Mountain life for Salt Life.. SOUNDS GREAT

Garden City Realty is the only realty company that I rent from when we visit Garden City.

We wanted something on the beach with enough rooms to accommodate our growing family. We had our own space but had enough living room are for us to come together. The Men loved having a TV in every room and the young people loved having wi-fi. Already trying to find a date we all can go this summer. :))

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We enjoyed our time at the Avery Cottage. The location and accommodations were just what we expected. We did feel that the Cottage is due for some updating and general repairs though. It needs a little TLC. The property included linens and towels for our stay and that was a wonderful plus not to have to bring all that extra along. I would recommend the Avery Cottage for a lovely stay in Garden City, SC.

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Pros: The layout of the home was good. It had 3 masters which was nice. Cons: The property was not clean. The downstairs bathroom smelled like urine. The bath tubs had black and mildew around the drain and the handles. The air condition upstairs had to work very hard to cool the entire home. Condensation has caused damage around the vents upstairs and drips water on any and everything under it. The downstairs air condition does not cool properly. A call to the management company resulted in a smart mouth tech that said nothing was wrong. Seriously, we are sweating downstairs and freezing upstairs. Glad to know nothing is wrong. The main sliding glass door downstairs either falls in or out, difficult to open/close. I called and requested a call from the manager. Never happened! The tv was also stolen from the living room. We called as soon as we entered the property on Sat. It was promised to be replaced on Sunday. After a follow up call on Monday morning, it was replaced on Monday after lunch. Lastly, spending the 4th here was a disaster. Literally 60 people camped out in the 70feet in front of our home -- drinking, smoking and crowding us out. A lady actually ducked her head under our umbrella to light her cigarette. There were miles of empty beach and the public beach access right beside the home caused a large, not family friendly crowd of locals to ruin the day. We rented 3 miles down the beach to avoid large crowds. Although a crowd is expected on a holiday, it was disappointing to pay the money to stay beach front and have to move to escape this type of crowd. We have stayed in Garden City for 25 years the week of the 4th and have never experienced this type of vacation. Disappointing to say the least! If this home was cleaned and properly maintained, it would be a quality rental. But beware of the public beach access that drew a crowd of locals (teenagers and adults alike) who planned to break the open container and litter laws.

I was somewhat dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The HVAC units are terrible. When paying this much money for a rental unit I expect the cooling system to be adequate. The units never cooled the house. The maintenance staff did try to help out for the first few days, but I never got a return call from them after mid-week. I will never rent this property again and am disappointed in GCR. This should have been corrected on the first day, but never was.

Reviewer Comments: Avery Cottage has a great floor plan and is located far enough away from the pier to make it feel like it is less commercial and more of a private area. The house was not very clean and the upstairs air conditioner was broken. Garden City Realty had a repair company there right away and they did charge they system, but that was not a sufficient fix and the upstairs stayed between 80 to 86 degrees during the day and 78 to 80 degrees at night. The oven does not work properly.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We had a wonderful time. The ocean was visible from almost all rooms in the house. The house met all our needs, but was ...a little shabby and needed some updating and a really good "deep" cleaning. Break wall is right in front of the property so at high tide there isn't much beach. But the house is spacious, everyone had a place to retreat to when they wanted. Kitchen is spacious which is great with a large group. Sum it up, we had a great week at the beach and would rent it again.
