This is a great place to stay. The staff is very friendly and want you to feel comfortable. This is an older building that is well maintained and they have kept much of the original woodwork in place. The rooms are smaller than normal but that is the style of the original hotel. It is also privately owned and run by people that live in Monte Vista. #supportlocalbusiness #smallbusiness #historicalbuilding

Everything was fine. It is an older building, of historical significance and restricted as to the improvements and updates that can be made, so unfortunately the rooms are quite small. But everything worked, the breakfast was great and so was the staff.i had a pleasant stay and would stay here again.

We have 5 different types of rooms Yours was budget smallest lowest room rate I wish I can rate to guests alsoYou got to eat hot meal and beauty rest king bed and all brand new appliance for 89 when another hotel charged 270 plus tax per night without elevator but walking stairs outside in rainy days because graduation weekend next time reserve 270 a night and complain again You don't understand what that means 1930 Fred Harvey Hotel 1000 a night in swiss even smaller than your room sometimes

The character of this hotel made it a special find for a quick trip to see the sandhill cranes... the old-time elevator was a treasure!! The room was not just "rather clean", but really clean, and I appreciated that! My only small beef was that the shower dripped through the night until I wrapped a towel around it, and the sink in the room was so tiny that it was hard to even brush teeth. Convenience to shops and restaurants was ideal. As luck would have it, the entire town lost power through the night, so waking in the dark with not even any water was a bit of a surprise, but completely no fault of the staff at the hotel-- they were very apologetic concerning even a situation beyond their control. I would definitely stay here again!!

The hotel was built in 1930 and is listed in the National Register of Historic. The renovations are excellent. However, there are no recycle bins, which is disappointing. This is Colorado; and they should offer a means to recycle.

This Grand Old Lady in Monte Vista must have been something. The decor is still wonderful. The old bar and dining area are closed either due to lack of traffic or staff. We were there for the Crane Festival and will book it again next year.

I enjoyed my night here. I came to Monte Vista for the cranes. I enjoyed my visit to the Monte Villa Hotel. The very nice lady at the desk took me to my room. She showed me some of the cool things about the hotel. I really didn't realize that the hotel is on the historic register and was a Harvey Hotel. The room was nice, a little on the small size but clean and had a comfy bed. I would definitely stay again.

The hotel was a historic building on the main US highway thru town . My room was on the front of the building right over US 160. So the traffic was busy till after 10 pm. A room in the rear of the building would have been much quieter .

Nostalgic Hotel Downtown
This is our go-to hotel when in the Monte Vista area. Exceptional customer service and historical rooms. Definitely a must stay if you are on your way to South Fork or Durango. Restaurants, brewery, bakery, and bowling alley within walking distance. Please visit, you will not be disappointed!

Before booking, I saw lots of reviews about “the lady who checked me in”. It’s one of the main reasons I booked the place. She was indeed a gem! She personally walked us to our room and gave us a brief history of the place as she did. Great little place to stay when you’re in the area.

My stay at the Monte Villa Hotel was absolutely incredible. The hotel is stunning, built in the 1930s it has a beautiful feel, with the original elevator and bar. Nothing beats its charm. The owners are amazing, they pre heated my room upgraded me from a queen bed to a king. I was taken to my room and shown where everything was by the owner. It was a very pleasing experience. I definitely enjoyed and recommend to stay here, I guarantee that you won’t be disappointed.

Historic Hotel will bring you Back!
If you want an awesome experience, check-in to this historic nostalgic hotel. You feel like you are boarding the Titanic in days of old. You can hear the music and imagine what it would have been like in its hay day. The owner is precious and a gem to this area. She has been nothing but solid gold to us and this is the only hotel we will use when visiting the area. Would one day love to see it fully restored with the restaurant and lounge areas. The price is reasonable and who knows, you just might get an upgrade if you frequent more often. I thank the owners for keeping this hotel and letting us travelers be treated with fantastic customer service and friendliness.

Unique to say the least…
This hotel was different. Not super comfortable, but we enjoyed the uniqueness of this hotel. It was in a really old building and they kept some of that era and vintage style of the past. The hotel atmosphere and style was dark academia looking. The pictures are bright and deceiving, and not true to the feeling of the hotel.

It was a nice, clean room at a good price. Check-in friendly, and they actually came into the room to tidy it up. The only downfall is the location of the hot tub and it's maintenance. The water was a bit smelly and the jets didn't work.

Great renovated historic hotel.
Great hotel in a well renovated historic building. Breakfast included eggs and sausage, not just stale cereal like some places. Management lives on site. I would book again.

The hotel has a great historic vibe. It is like we were transported to a movie or a book. The owner was very welcoming and we got an upgrade we didn’t even ask for. It was just one night stay, but the bed was super comfortable. We would definitely stay again if we are in the area.

Very old hotel,clean comfortable but not a lot of charm. Owner did upgrade us to a king bed and better room😊. Breakfast was good, scrambled eggs, hash browns, sausage links and biscuits and sausage gravy, as well as toast, breads etc. nice staff. Beautiful stained glass ceiling in dining room/ ballroom.

Don't recommend
The elevator is ancient and could be charming but it was built in the day when you actually had someone operating it. It felt unsafe. We had to hook a brass gate to get our stuff in, then release it, then go past our floor and back down to get off cause it didn't line up otherwise

Historic treasure
This hotel is a lovely historic treasure. The elevator is a blast from the past. The rooms have classic furniture not found in the chain hotels you visit. I loved the whole feel of the place.

Great nostalgic hotel
The staff and service was excellent. We arrived late in the evening and the staff upgraded our room without an additional charge. The nostalgia and decor of the hotel was very cool. Additionally, most continental breakfasts I've had are lacking any decent hot food. We were surprised to find delicious bacon and eggs and home-fried potatoes.
