If you have an idea, a dream to escape modern life for a while, if you are looking for the ideal place for this to be realised, then search no further. La Fuga, and excuse the pun, but it does exactly what it says on the tin. An escape. You do not need to be a wine connoisseur to stay here. You can learn if you want or you can just relax and gaze at the valley of vines that spread out before as you lay by the pool or relax in the evening on the terrace. The house has everything you need, is very comfortable, clean and maintained to a very high standard. The wifi worked through the house and by the pool, but after day 2 this was not used as we reverted and became human again by just reading books and allowing the valley and timeless day to take us back to a time when you relaxed on holiday. Head to the nearest town of Montalcino and stock up with everything you need, or venture out and visit local villages and vineyards for lunch. There is no hard sell on wine, its there if you want it. Head to Grosseto about an hour away for a larger supermarket, a lovely drive through the Val d' Orcia, top it off with a swim in the sea. There is so much to do here using La Fuga as your base to tour or just relax. We opted for the latter. You need a car which helps you get into Montalcino for some restaurants or just a change for an evening head into the small village nearby of Camigliano and dine with Massimo and Antonella at the Trattoria el Galletto. Its a small Trattoria with an outside area overlooking the valley, so make sure you call and book, it might be remote but their food is popular. La Fuga is a working vineyard, and the estate manager Davide is on site to help, they have to tend the vines so there is the distant hum of a tractor, but watching the locals working on the vines by hand across the valley in way that hasn't changed for years, makes you realise you have stepped back from the rat race. One last thing, is that beneath the terrace and house is the result of the tended vines, large wooden barrels of Brunello wine, quietly sleeping and maturing for five years, a process that the Folonari Family have nurtured for generations. A commitment that they have extended in developing La Fuga, by ensuring that your stay and communication with you before and after is personal. Nothing is too much trouble. Enjoy La Fuga.
