Great Clean getaway
the cabin was a perfect small and very clean place and had everything that I needed. Everything worked and I felt I had access to everything I wanted. It would have been nice to have some steps to the creek/river as it may be hard for an older person or a non-athletic person. for me it was fine, but you had to hold onto trees and carefully navigate the short walk to the water. Too many trees to fish, but the sound took care of being close to the highway. Salida was the closest town and was really a treat to go downtown to the river.

Spectacular!
We stayed here in June when the river was at its peak raging flow. It was a magnificent setting in a beautiful aspen grove that glowed brilliantly in the rain while soaking in the hot tub. Absolutely wonderful. The cabin was just right for four of us - only suggestion would be to add a nice table and chairs for 4-6 on the deck for outdoor dining.

Beautiful stay
The cabin is a wonderful stay nestled in Garfield, just a short drive in town to Salida. You can’t beat the rushing creek out back and the toasty hot tub on a chilly night. Our two girls (8.5&7) loved exploring around the cabin and playing the board games provided ! Great location for all levels of hiking and mountain biking near by. And close to Mt. Princeton hot springs for a relaxing day! Highly recommend staying here for a great getaway with breathtaking views all around!

Fantastic stay in the mountains
My two friends and I thoroughly enjoyed our four-night stay in this little cabin in Garfield. At 9,500 ft. elevation just below Monarch Pass, it was cool all the time. A lovely creek is only about 20 ft from the back deck where we spent most of our leisure time in the hot tub, sitting in chairs, or cooking on the grill. So peaceful and quiet in the area, yet we felt it was very convenient to go rafting near Salida, tour ghost towns, and enjoy the mountain scenery. The cabin had everything we needed and it was spotless. Communication with Bruce, the owner, was simple and quick. Beds upstairs and down, same with bathrooms. No complaints whatsoever. I would happily stay here again.

Loved the Monarch Pass area
Very nice cabin. It was exceptionally clean and the beds super comfortable with fresh and good quality linens and towels available. The cabin makes for a nice home base. It was cool enough that we enjoyed coming home from our adventures every day and building a fire in the woodstove (thanks for having so much firewood and kindling available) after relaxing on the deck by the beautiful creek that runs behind the cabin. The stars were amazing! We also enjoyed meeting Harry, the sweet neighborhood dog who visited regularly to hang out with us on the deck. The dogs (and even the humans) in the area were friendly but not intrusive. We tried the hot tub once, but it died about 10 minutes into the soak. It was back on the next night but the jets weren't very strong so we opted to skip it, though it is a nice amenity to have available and it's in a great spot to enjoy the scenery. We've learned after only two VRBO experiences that the VRBO definition of "private" is very different from ours, so we were a little surprised and disappointed that there were houses so close. Thankfully, they were mostly unoccupied while we were there so we only had to get used to the vehicles on the close local roads and the highway above Garfield. We live in a rural setting far away from roads and neighbors, so we tend to prefer that on vacation, so most folks would probably be ok with the Garfield experience. Turns out it was a very quiet area so our concern upon arriving was never a real problem, just not our personal preference kind of location. My only suggestion would be to replace the hard as a rock futon with something more comfy. Though there are plenty of seating options, most aren't conducive to sitting by the fireplace or curling up with a good book. We had bag chairs with us so that helped to provide better seating inside and on the deck and we never used the TV/DVD set up (though the DVD/VHS library is impressive!) so we didn't need to use seating facing that direction. The spiral staircase was solid and perfect for the cabin and just a fun and unique feature that reminding me of The Monkees TV show every time I came down it, so that was fun. Great time, great trip - thanks for sharing your cozy cabin.

Hi Deb, Thank you for your thorough review. The futon is gone.! We got a nice leather sofa in it's place. I encourage guests to call me if there is ever an issue such as yours with the hot tub. yours, Bruce

Great little cabin
Cabin is in our favorite little area. It fit our needs for our family of four. It was stocked with every thing we needed. Hot tub was nice to sit in after hiking, fishing, rafting, etc.... and the deck is right on the South Ark. We slept with the windows open each night to the sound of the rushing water just below. It was great. One thing to note is that laundry must be done at the lodge, the machines only take quarters, and the lodge does not make change. We enjoyed our stay very much in this cabin and made some great memories. The only thing we might change would be the futon. The padding is pretty thin making it a bit uncomfortable. We would definitely book again.

Thanks for your review. The futon is gone replaced with a comfy leather sofa. I'll look into the laundry problem.

Amazing Cabin on a River
I want say this was one of the best vacations I have enjoyed in years thanks to this property. Garfield is a quiet, charming and friendly small community. This place fit in perfectly with the area. The place is cozy and the sound of a river will sing you to sleep. If you like to fish it’s worth throwing a line in because there are for sure fish back there. After you’re done enjoy a soak in the hot tub and make the most of the place. It has everything you need and I would love to return again soon.

Best Honeymoon Ever
This is probably the cutest cabin in the entire state!! Cozy, wooden, clean, and feels like you’re living in a magazine page. Hot tub on the beautiful patio is in view of the mountains. Loved enjoying a post-skiing beer in the hot tub. The whole neighborhood is cuddled by the surrounding mountains. There are snowy hiking trails right nearby and a peaceful creek. Bruce gave us wonderful instructions of all things that are provided - a favorite of us is the wooden stove with firewood provided. Nothing beats curling up on the couch by the fire. Definitely a gem and a God-send location. Would highly recommend. Thank you Bruce and Trina!!

Perfect family get away

Creekside Comfort
Bruce's place was a nice late summer getaway! Lots of outdoor opportunities and hikes nearby, and close enough to journey to Salida's downtown area and restaurants (about a 20 minute drive). We enjoyed Mo's Burritos (try the nachos!), Sweeties, Moonlight Brewery, and Little Red Hen. The neighborhood was pretty quiet, with a mix of residents and vacation rentals (all neighbors were very nice). You can hear the highway a bit, as indicated on some other reviews, but it's largely offset by the pleasant sound of the river. We caught a few fish just below the house, and also ventured a couple miles down the road to Fooses Lake where we caught a fish on practically every cast (very fun for our 6 y.o. daughter). Our dog also enjoyed the cabin and area, and met lots of other friendly dogs on our walks around (note: most dogs are unleashed in the area). The cabin itself is well maintained, comfortable and stocked well with cooking utensils. The patio overlooking the river with the hottub was a nice place to spend the evenings and relax. As noted in some other reviews, the hot tub jets aren't the strongest, but we were able to get it up to a good temp (~105) for a couple nice soaks.

Mini CO Vacay
Stayed at the Chalet August 2021. Very cute little get away not far from Salida, was perfect for our group of 3 adults & 2 dogs. Very few complaints - #1 hot tub is "low" chemical so it smelled a bit gross/was dirty, but I used it anyways & #2 pans for cooking could be updated & #3 as mentioned before the seating downstairs is limited/uncomfortable. Apart from those minor details we enjoyed our stay!! I would definitely recommend the Chalet. Thank you for sharing your space!

What an amazing get away!
The rushing creek in the backyard was delightful to listen to and trout fish in. The town Garfield was cute and fun to walk around. Close enough to Salida to get there easily, but far enough to be away. The amenities were served us well. We cooked “Hello Fresh” and were able to do so easily. The hot tub was fun and relaxing. We visited a local winery (Mountain Spirit) and stocked up on wine :) Bruce was clear in communication and easy to work with. Highly recommended!! We will book again!

Anniversary Getaway
This house was perfect! The creek flowing was the most peaceful sound. We kept the windows open and the sliding door open the entire time! The hot tub was perfect for soaking after playing in the mountains! I look forward to renting the cabin again 🤗! Last summer we had to cancel our trip last minute because my mom passed away unexpectedly. Bruce was so kind and gave us a 100 percent refund. We were so grateful to get to book the cabin again this summer and celebrate our 20th Anniversary together one year delayed 😊!

Needs to be updated
For the price it was outdated. The futon was horrible. You couldn't even relax and watch a movie, like sitting on a park bench. Jacuzzi was so gross, we didn't even go there. The deck and bbq area was unstable and the stairs to get to the bed rooms were dangerous and not sure how the stairs passed code. For the price before and after us surly this place could be updated. The pictures are old and nothing that presented the experience

Cute Cabin by the Creek
The cabin was very cute, but has limited comfortable seating (futon and rocking chair in living room). Our group of three women enjoyed the hot tub in the evenings but would have liked loungers on the deck for reading. The kitchen is well stocked with equipment needed for cooking, and you can hear the water running in the creek when the windows/sliding glass door are open. There is no washer/dryer or landline phone in the cabin as advertised, although Bruce informed me that a washer/dryer was available at the lodge to use.

More lounge chairs is a good suggestion. There is one in the shed. More to come. The washer/dryer and land line were deemed unnecessary. Wifi calling is possible with cell phones and the old dryer died. Yes there is a laundry at the nearby Monarch lodge if needed for your personal items. Guests don't need to wash our linens and towels. The info has now been amended. The cabin has 7 chairs, a rocker, and a futon sofa. There is no room for more.

Amazing cozy cabin
This is our second time renting this amazing cozy cabin. This cabin is next to a stream where you can even hear the flow in the winter. The hot tub is great after a day of skiing. We will definitely rent this cabin again.

Cozy Ski Trip Getaway
The house was great, we had everything we needed for our 4 day stay. The kids loved relaxing in the hot tub after a full day of skiing - an easy 5 minute drive up to the Monarch parking lot. The dogs loved lounging by the wood stove. Even in March, the creek behind the house was very active, and so relaxing to listen to one of the days when it was warm enough to open up the back door. Our family loved playing games, and reading together while we sat around the fire, with plenty of comfy seating. Overall, a great trip, and a wonderful place to stay as a family.

Great little cabin, awesome location!
We really enjoyed the property. It was great, quiet location close by to Monarch Ski Area. Cabin was perfect for our family of 4. Upon arrival, we did notice some pet hair in the carpet. We ran the vacuum all over the house and problem solved. Everything else in the house was wonderful and clean.

Had a great week. Skied at Monarch 3 days and then enjoyed board games in the cabin on day 4. Monarch is less than ten minute drive from cabin. Cabin was well equipped with everything we needed including kindling and firewood for the wood stove. Also enjoyed soaking in the hot tub after cold days of skiing.

Wonderful Family Time
We had a terrific time enjoying the skiing at Monarch Mountain (~ five minutes away) and the great chalet. It was comfortable and very relaxing for the whole family. We even had a power outage and enjoyed the nice fire that kept everything warm. Really terrific place and experience. Nothing like a hot tub above a river to help relax after a day of teaching little ones how to ski.

Perfect getaway!
We stayed for our honeymoon and it was perfect! The hot tub was great and the creek behind the cabin was beautiful! It’s about a 15 minute drive to Salida. Highly recommend!!

A Fall Oasis
I always lament each fall that I do not get to see the aspens in their glory enough and lo and behold, Bruce's place sat among the golden aspens. Everything from the directions to the check in to the communication was seamless. We were close to Poncha Springs (Elevation Beer is the best!) and not too far from Salida. I would say the real gem is its proximity to the views of Monarch Pass. The place was perfect for four adults and no one fell down the spiral stair case so I call that a win!

Cozy Cool Mountain Cabin
Me, my wife, and 8 yo needed to get away from the heat of Central Texas. We found this delightful cabin in the mountains of CO. The drive was quite the trek for us (13 hours), but it was so worth it. The mountains, trees, rushing river, cool breeze... it was just what we needed to escape everyday life these days. Communication with Bruce was great, cabin was clean, and the hot tub was the best. We enjoyed sitting in it, listening to the river and wind, looking up at the trees, and relaxing. We did have an issue with the internet not working for most of the stay, which prevented us from being able to research the town and restrictions on places during the pandemic. But we made it work, and it was nice to be disconnected for a while. Bruce tells me that the issues are mostly resolved, and we plan to go back again late fall. Stay here, you won't regret it.

An absolutely wonderful place to stay!
We had a wonderful experience and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. My wife and I wanted a place to just sit back and relax, and 1st Chair was exactly what we needed. From the hot tub, to the wood stove, to the sounds of the river, it was truly amazing!

We arrived to a freak record breaking snow storm. Bruce and Co. Had everything we needed ready to go and he was easily accessible when I had a few questions. We really appreciated how Bruce did everything he could to make our stay as pleasant as possible. We will definitely recommend this place to friends and family!
