We absolutely loved our stay. The location was far from town—which was the exact kind of experience we wanted. The cabin was cozy and the host graciously provided wood for the fireplace which kept us warm and added to the rustic ambiance. The view from the cabin of the La Sal mountains is epic and gazing out the window each morning was a pleasure. Stargazing at night couldn’t have been better and when the host says to check out the nearby castle valley overlook for the best view in the world he’s not exaggerating. The host was very easy to work with and provided great communication and went the extra mile to make it work for us. He recommended a 4 wheel drive vehicle which makes sense for that area anyway as a prime location for hiking, 4 wheeling and mountain biking.

We enjoyed the cabin and the beautiful views, especially the sunsets. As a coffee drinker, there was only decaf coffee in the cabin, so bring your own coffee. To get to the cabin from Moab, it took 45 minutes to an hour, with good weather. We’d recommend the Lauton Loop route to get to the cabin, as it is the safest way there. Finally, we’d highly recommend having a high clearance 4 wheel drive vehicle. An all wheel drive SUV is not recommended due to the condition of the half mile driveway to the cabin, once off the unpaved roads.

Host John was very amiable and accessible. And based on the numerous positive reviews, many people enjoy the rustic seclusion. Unfortunately, we didn’t.The property description/cautions are correct. The drive from Moab to the property is long and rough. We minimized the caution, then found the trip from Moab exhausting.The property is listed as rustic. We minimized the caution thinking it would be a charming rustic. We found it to be a rough rustic.This is probably an enjoyable property for many. We dismissed the cautions and were disappointed.

Views galore

There are three ways to get to the cabin from Moab all of which have stunning views! We wanted privacy and beauty and this cabin delivered. It takes an hour to get to Moab from there but well worth the drive! We would absolutely stay there again. John, our host went out of his way to make sure we found the property and enjoyed our stay.

Beautiful views. Fresh air. Deer and wild turkey everywhere. Nice cabin with everything you need. Was very comfortable for my party of 4. Road to cabin is rough! Off road vehicle recommend! Very nice owner!

Remote and Peaceful

Our second stay after a trip in 2018. Just as much fun as the first time - watching the stars at night, and after filling the hummingbird feeder watching them squabble with a cup of coffee in the morning is tough to beat. And the quiet at night is amazing.

Remote cabin with gorgeous views

We spend every summer at this cabin and it never ceases to disappoint, even as the kids grow. John is the consummate host - responsive, kind and attentive to our every need. The space is rustic and in some ways bare bones, but has all of the necessary amenities, like fast internet connection, AC, etc. It’s set up in a way that makes you appreciate the rugged beauty that surrounds the space.

Nice Sunsets but Too Rustic

Very disappointed that in 100 degree temps that no one turned the AC on for us. Only AC’s are in a couple of bedrooms. Took a long time to cool the living area. We knew the distance from Moab but not that it would be constant hairpin turns. Very exhausting to drive & not for anyone afraid of heights. Really not fun to drive at night. If you’re going to stay put it’s okay, but if doing things in Moab I’d give it a pass. Also never found any hiking trails by the cabin that other people mentioned. The place smelled when we got there but we didn’t notice the dead mouse on a sticky pad (hidden by electrical cords) until our last night there. The water trap outside killed a family of chipmunks which was totally gross. Can send pictures if needed.

Great Place!

It was very nice getting out of the summer heat and hanging out in the deck watching the stars. Extremely quiet and peaceful. The town isn't to far away to stock up on everything you need. We will definitely be back!

Beautiful location!

If you truly want to experience the beauty of Moab, this is the place to stay. In the middle of the La Sal Mountains, you are above the town of Moab which meant snow capped Mountain Views and cooler weather which was so nice in the summer. We hiked during the day and relaxed at the cabin in the afternoon/evening and were surrounded by hummingbirds and other wildlife. As others mentioned, it is a 45+ minute drive outside of town, but with a little planning ahead, this is not a problem. We would stay here again. John was a great host!

Wonderfully remote vacation home for Moab adventures!

Really loved the house and location - it is about an hour to Moab, but I knew that going in. The driveway is pretty rough with ruts right now, but that added to the adventure in a way. The house and views of the surrounding area are lovely!

Beautiful cabin outside of Moab

This large and comfortable cabin is about 50 minutes outside of Moab with views of the Rim and the La Sal mountains. It's very quiet and is well stocked with necessities. Just bring your food. The landscape is amazing and John, the owner, is extremely responsive.

Away from the hustle and bustle

We recently stayed here while visiting Moab during the 58th Easter Jeep Fest. If you want to be away from town this place is for you! It was in a very quiet location, with great views and all of nature's things. John was very helpful and responsive from the time we were arriving to day we left. Keep in mind that the access roads to this cabin should not be driven with minivans or prius'. Can't wait to stay here again!

Out of the way cabin

Great cabin, Awesome views, clean with everything you want. Easy access to Porcupine Rim and all trails off of Sand Flats road. Access is definitely high clearance and Awd/4wd would be a must if it rains or snows. You could get a car there, but you will ground out if you're not super careful. WiFi and cell worked fine, it has a TV but never tried it as we were too busy enjoying the view, stars and deck.

Outstanding stay

The cabin was perfect for our small family reunion with incredible access to some of Moab’s classic bike trails. The views of the La Sals are pretty special.

You may not want to leave...

The cabin is so peaceful and the last half mile of road so bad that you may just want to hunker in and be one with the Moab high country. Also, if you do venture out, plan ahead and make it worth the trip; you're an hour away from anything.
