Just blocks from downtown and the University, with an unmatched riverfront location! Easy access to hiking and biking trails!
Goldsmith’s Inn is a historic, three-story, brick home that was built in 1911 as the University of Montana president’s house. The house has served many University purposes over the years; it was once a fraternity, a lab, and an office space, among other uses.
In 1988, the building was slated for demolition to expand university parking. Amidst community outcry over the planned destruction of the historic and beautiful home, the Inn was saved by the Goldsmiths. In order to preserve the home, the Goldsmiths undertook an audacious plan to move the 4000 square foot house from the southern edge of campus to the northern banks of the Clark Fork River. The home was then fully renovated to create six classic and comfortable rooms, each with private, hand-tiled bathrooms and other modern amenities.
For over twenty years, the Goldsmiths have been welcoming guests into the beautiful home to experience the wonder of Montana and a piece of Missoula history.
Please note, we are now a vacation rental property (not a traditional bed and breakfast), meaning self check-in-and-out, and no daily breakfast. These precautions help our guests minimize contact with each other, with us, and with our staff. Thank you!
Free on-site parking, a private entrance, access to nearby riverfront walking/biking trails, and minutes from downtown make this spot a hidden gem in Missoula! This apartment includes access to a shared patio, located in the back of the next-door bike shop, overlooking the river. Please be respectful of the shared space!
We do not live on-site but are available via email and phone.
We are in the heart of Missoula right on the river! Drum Coffee and Black Coffee Roasters are super close as well as all of downtown!
Market on Front is just a short walk down the river to grab coffee or a breakfast burrito, and FINN is about a block away for drinks on their riverside deck, or a nice dinner.
Just across the river and the walking footbridge (all steps from the front door) is the University of Montana and hiking on the `M` trail, or Kim Williams trail.
Albertson`s grocery store is also a block away, where you can find Starbucks and a variety of fast-food restaurants. We are convenient to the interstate as well.
We`d suggest trying out the river front trail! It`s about ~.75 miles to downtown. Otherwise you can also bike, or drive. If you drive, we recommend using the 2 parking garages and then walking around from there (the 1st hour and weekends are free in the parking garages, and they are free on weekends).
The bike shop next door, Big Sky Bikes, now rents bikes to help you explore our lovely town!
This listing is a private apartment in a *former* Bed and Breakfast. It includes access to private laundry, kitchen, and deck, as well as access to a river-facing front porch and next-door patio.
You will see signs for Goldsmith`s Riverfront Inn - thats us! Please park on the west side of the lot in front of the house, not in front of the bike shop. We are located next door to Big Sky Bikes.
After parking, you will walk toward the fence/shed to the right side of the property as you face it. This is your private walkway to your own entrance! The unit should be marked Room #2, the Rattlesnake Apartment. The apartment is also accessible via the main entrance to the home. To access this, please travel from the parking lot toward the river, turn right to head up the stairs to the front porch, and enter through the main door (painted black). Once you have entered, go down the hall and just past the staircase is your second entrance, which leads into the kitchen of your unit. No smoking or vaping on the premises.

We really enjoyed our stay at this Missoula home. The location was excellent — close to shops, restaurants, and everything we needed, yet still surprisingly quiet and peaceful inside even though it was in a busy area. The beds were especially comfortable, and the kitchen was extremely well equipped. It had everything we needed for cooking, including plenty of cookware, utensils, spices, and other thoughtful extras that made preparing meals easy during our stay.We also enjoyed staying in a home with so much history and character. It was neat knowing we were staying in a house that is over 100 years old, while still being updated, well maintained, comfortable, and practical for modern travelers.Communication was excellent throughout the stay, and getting into the house was simple and easy. Overall, this was a comfortable, convenient, and memorable place to stay in Missoula.
